Results on that front seem to vary. Due to different GPUs?

I'll give Halo Rosetta a shot at least, since many Rosetta games are faster on my iMac than on my old G4.
 
Yes, that was fun! Sorry I couldn't stay longer.
I would agree, Lance Dominated with the pistol, Cassie with the Shotgun.
I wasn't too bad with the Shotgun and Hogs-maybe when I'm "on my game" I'll do better.

I didn't get home 'till 2130 CDT so I missed the game. I'll keep watching for another one.

Excellent! It is nice to know that they realised their original UB port was less than satisfactory! Considering this is such an old game, they deserve credit for updating it IMO.

Off-Topic, Anyone into me setting up a UK server seen as these times are prohibitive? (Perhaps I should start a new thread...)

Wow.
Before the update I got about 20fps - 40fps with medium-high settings.
After the update I'm getting about 30fps - 60fps with every setting on highest.
Wow.
Frag grenades and tank blast don't lag anymore when I use 9x anti-aliasing!

Next time I'll be able to host is Tuesday, May 1st.
Shall we go for 8:00pm EDT again? I can do a different time if it's more convenient for people.
 
I can host tonight actaully at like 7:30PM Eastern.

I wont do it unless anyone can come so if you can say here!
 
That's a "maybe" from me for tonight... depends whether I can go buy some 700 MB CDs! The Halo UB won't work on my 650s apparently.

EDIT: 7:30 Eastern now... just starting to burn the disc. I'll keep an eye on the thread in case there's a game tonight.
 
OH CRAP!

The Halo Universal update that I have installed, is now asking me to stick in my Halo Universal CD which I do not have!

Anyway to fix this problem?

You need to burn the .dmg you downloaded. You can INSTALL Halo UB off the image, but only an actual burn will let you play. Just open the .dmg in Disk Utility and have a 700 MB disc handy.

I don't think there's a workaround.

I MIGHT be able to host myself, maybe at 8:30-9pm EDT or so. It will take me a little time to get set up and figure out which of my Macs I can devote to serving. (My old G4 is already hosting UT2004 and Prey Demo, and my iMac is my DVR.)

Where i can i get my original .dmg?
 
The .dmg is what you downloaded when you bought the UB. If you lost it, you could contact customer support... or MAYBE the download link they emailed you will still work. (It was some tinyurl.) Worth a shot anyway.

Meanwhile, I'm nearly up and running... I will start a server around 8:30 named MacClan.net, password arn. (It won't be a dedi this time.)

EDIT: Make it 9. I have no idea how to host Halo through a router/firewall.

Well my problem includes not being able to do that is there a way to uninstall the update?
 
The 2.0.1 update isn't what needs the CD--all versions of Halo do.

If you have the original non-UB Halo disc, you could install that (if speed is acceptable) and use that disc as proof of purchase. (That disc won't work for the UB.)

But i dont have anything

I dont have a CD or anything.....

I never had to stick in the CD after install before EVER!

And now after the update its asking for the CD, i dont knwo why though, and I really want to play.
 
I can't explain that. Halo has always needed the CD.

Did you install some hack to prevent it?

If you lost your CD, you may be out of luck :( You can thank the pirates for these annoyances.

Speaking of which... a server is up (no password needed), "MacClan.net"... but I can't join it myself. Hopefully other people can, if I configured my router properly, but I'd need to buy a second copy of the game--otherwise the Mac I'm playing on has the same key as my server Mac, and the two won't talk.

Well umm... I have to PM on that one.
 
It seems that Halo on Mac can't host dedi, nor can it continue after the game ends (without manually starting the next match)? So I can't run a full-time server.

I'll go back to hosting Prey/Prey Demo :) But I will be up for playing Halo sometime too.

PS, what effects are supposed to be messed up in the UB? It all looks great to me, water on the beach included. Maybe this patch fixed those issues?

I'm a long time lurker on the mac rumors forums. I'm the leader of a clan that plays Halo and other games. We have a dedicated server for halo hosted through nuclearfallout (as well as UT2004 and CS: S). Feel free to play on our Halo server anytime you want as we rarely play Halo anymore so it's empty most of the time (it's up 24/7). It's a 16 player public dedicated server, hosted in San Jose, Ca, and has a fairly large map cycle rotation -- several maps of team based slayer and CTF, and a couple of king of the hill and race.

The server is named IDIC and has a direct IP of idic.nuclearfallout.net . I can change the map cycle and the gametypes if you wish (i.e. currently there are no tanks or shees on any of the maps in the cycle).
