Ugh; the funds are back in my account rather than ‘pending’ status. What does this mean?!

You aren't the only person in this thread that that has happened with. Sometimes Apple drops the authorisation and reinstates it later. I haven't seen an explanation about why. Maybe give Apple a call and ask?

Arising from @cinder's post four up, this is a new update on a group that ordered a Max late March/early April with specs 32 core graphics, 64GB memory and 2TB storage. I'm the only one still awaiting shipping. Hopefully that will change in the next 24 hours.

Order dates and status as of 2PM Saturday, East Coast US; 2AM Sunday in Shenzhen:

@BenGieCruz (US): March 24, UPS tracking number for delivery this Monday, May 16
@cinder (US): March 30, UPS tracking number for delivery this Wednesday, May 18
@evilhsoj (US): March 31, UPS tracking number for delivery this Monday, May 16
My Order (US): April 1, Preparing to Ship
@placerights09 (UK): April 8, UPS tracking number for delivery this Monday, May 16
My delivery date has slipped to Wednesday 18th.

A Sunday morning that starts well. I even think it will be before.

UPS has changed @placerights09's delivery from tomorrow (Monday) to Wednesday. I've now been at "Preparing to Ship" for more than 24 hours. I haven't seen any information about what happens during the "Preparing to Ship" stage, but apparently it can last for a couple of days.

Order dates and status as of 8AM Sunday, East Coast US; 8PM in Shenzhen:

Ordered Mac studio less than week ago. Base model with 32 core and 2tb upgrade. Now preparing to ship and shows estimated date still be end of June. Don’t know how that is possible.

Your delivery window won't change until your order's status changes to "Shipped", at which point the window will be replaced with a specific date. Look at the last few pages of posts before yours. For example, see post #3432 on the page before this one.

My guess is that Apple is pretty much caught up with pre-orders/early orders and that new orders won't have the extended wait times. Until the world gets even worse, that is.

Definitely not for my Ultra. I see lots of movement for Maxes but rarely anything for Ultras. It's now over 9 weeks waiting for me, with zero movement. Apple's estimated delivery window begins in 16 days.

I wonder if the Ultras come from the same Shanghai-based supplier that makes all the top-end MBPs. Another article on Apple's supply woes said that factory is only running at 10-20% capacity.

I'm now at hour 36 of "Preparing to Ship" and getting a little impatient. What is "Preparing to Ship" anyway? Is that when your computer actually gets assembled? What takes 36ᐩ hours? Certainly not putting my Max in a box and adding an address label.

It's now 6AM Monday in Shenzhen. Time to get a move on guys :)

With all these Studio Maxes being sent out, it is becoming painfully obvious that there is a supply issue with the M1 Ultra chip. I placed an order for Studio Ultra 48 GPU/64GB/2 TB on March 22. Got a delivery window of June 9-23. Since no one here has acknowledged receiving an Ultra they ordered after the launch, I am getting a bad feeling about this….

I don't want to dig back though the many old posts, but I'm pretty sure that multiple people have gotten theirs. But not me, ordered March 12th.

Hopefully dispatched today 🙏

FWIW, mine is still stuck at Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong. No updates/movement since the 12th - must be a backlog there…

I don't think I can inform you because my delivery address is an Apple Store. So I didn't have the "preparation for shipping" step. I went from "treatment" for 45 days to "shipped" directly without any details provided. I'm sure your Mac studio has been manufactured but it hasn't left the factory yet. But it must be imminent. Personally, I'm going to call Apple today because he told me that as long as it's not shipped they don't have a general view of the device. It is only when it is supported that Apple knows its location. I have no choice because I will not have any personalized follow-up. As you said: in my case it is Apple that ships to .. Apple.

Bought a used Mac Pro 6,1 in 2019 (produced in 2017!) with 64GB and upgraded it to the 12 core CPU. Used all the thunderbolt ports with 10 GbE, NVMe und Thunderbolt docks. Was happy. When the Mac Studio came out, I was still happy and decided to keep it. But then I really started wondering if you should consume up to 200 W and more to do less then a little box with around 20 W. So I ordered the Max 64GB 1TB with arrival in July. But last weekend a basic configuration machine become available at an Apple store 200 km away and I quickly reserved it:

Now the Mac Pro will return to Apple. I still like it very much but it just cannot compete. I will loose the ability to run Windows VM, which I sometimes need. The VM will migrate to an i7 Mac Mini which should have been replaced by a M1 Mac Mini long ago. But at least it does not use that much power as the Mac Pro...

So to summarize:

You will not regret having ordered the Mac Studio and the basic configuration is probably good enough, if you have external NVMe storage.

I just had Apple on the phone. I explain to him that I did not have an email at the time of shipment. Apple tells me it's strange yet we sent it to you with the tracking number. "I have very good news: it's coming tomorrow!!! ". The ups app tells me: delivered tomorrow at 8:45 am to your local Apple Store. Label created yesterday morning in China and cleared and it has been on its way since this morning and it would arrive tomorrow at the Apple store in Paris!? I have serious doubts.

Finally Shipped!

Studio Max (U.S. Delivery)
Max Options: 32 graphics cores, 64GB memory, 2TB storage

April 1: arrives June 27 - July 11
May 3: arrives June 22 - 29
May 10: credit card payment to Apple "pending"
May 14 sometime before 6PM in Shenzhen: "Preparing to Ship"
May 16 about 3PM in Shenzhen: “Shipped”

[EDIT: Delivery was revised to May 18th a couple of hours after I wrote this post. See post #3477.] Apple has given me a tracking number and a delivery date of May 27. I think that this is just a holding date until UPS gives me a real date. The UPS page for my tracking number says "The delivery date will be provided as soon as possible".

For more info, see the two posts below.

My credit card payment to Apple is still "pending", but will probably be "posted" soon. See Apple's Page on Payment & Pricing:

When Apple charges your account
Apple receives authorization to charge your account prior to shipping your item(s). However, your card will only be charged after your order has shipped. If your order contains multiple items and they ship at different times, you may see multiple charges on your credit card statement.

Further to the post just above...

Apple told me that my Max has shipped both on my order page and via e-mail. As stated in the post above, I think that the delivery date is just a holding date until UPS gives me an accurate date.

[EDIT: Delivery was revised to May 18th a couple of hours after I wrote this post. See post #3477.]

This is the main UPS page for my tracking number. It says "Package is delayed in transit". However, the package hasn't been anywhere yet. The reference may have something to do with the time spent on the export clearance process referred to on the "Shipment Progress" page below. In any event, I'm more interested in the fact that there's no reference to May 27th, and the page says that "The delivery date will be provided as soon as possible".
