Ah yes, you're right. Phew! ?

If you do "only" photography is should be sufficient. I got the M1 Max 10-core CPU, 32-core GPU with 64 GB RAM because I also work with Final Cut Pro and sometimes even with Lightroom and Final Cut Pro simultaneously and I noticed on my 2017 iMac 5K I used around 50 GB of RAM+Swap. Also both CPU and GPU load were on the limit depending in wich application I was working. I suppose I will get at the limit of the M1 Max too but the price jump for the M1 Ultra is simply too much for me since I'm not a professional photo- or videographer.

PS: As a little appetiser my black Magic Mouse and my white small Magic Keyboard should arrive tomorrow. ?
Based on various reviews/testing done on the current crop of MacBook Pros with the M1 Pro and M1 Max, even the base model is sufficient for most workflows. If you increase to 64GB of RAM I believe you'll have a machine that will have a good long useful life.

At my business we are processing thousands of images per week, and often will do huge batch exports of several hundred images at a time; in that case the minor increases in performance from the Ultra will pay for themselves in saved time, but if I were buying just for personal use the regular base model with 64GB.

Did anyone notice if you pick the entry level Mac Studio and upgrade it to the top of the line Ultra, you get faster estimated ship times than picking the higher end Mac and upgrading to the top of the line ultra? I'm curious if that would play out or if it's just an error in their system.
I think this is just a glitch. I tried to place an order this way. Was showing March 31 - April 7; when I got to the final checkout page and confirmation, it says May 15-26.

Yes, that was my thought too. I hope it will live a really long life. My current iMac 5K from 2017 lived five years. So that thing has to live ten years because it cost twice as much. ?
Does anyone know when the review models are likely to arrive? Or when the review embargo is lifted?
Nobody "knows". But I would expect Tuesday or Wednesday next week.

Congrats to all the new Ultra owners. If there was ever a Mac Lambo this is it. I didn't know the Max was an option. Both allow for 64 GB which is my main concern. Still debating which to get.

Just ordered myself the baseline M1 Max 10-core CPU, 24-core GPU with 1TB storage. Going to be overkill for me personally. I have the baseline M1 Mac mini (8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, and out of those 8 CPU cores only four of them are high preformance cores) right now and I gimped on the storage. Went with only 256GB which was a huge mistake. Going to replace it with this Mac Studio with 1TB storage. A Mac Studio with M1 Pro would be the perfect fit for me. I currently have a MacBook Pro 14-inch with M1 Pro 10-core CPU, 16-core GPU and 1TB storage and it's amazing. With this amount of cooling and always connected to power a simliar M1 Pro Mac Studio should be capable of being a beast of a machine. But Apple is good at making their SKU's like this. Make it so that you always end up opting for slightly more expensive and powerful compared to what you really need.

I do find the price to be quite decent for the baseline considering what you get. Especially when compared to the baseline Mac mini as it only gives you 8-cores (4+4), 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. This baseline with 10-cores (8+2), 24-core GPU, 32GB RAM and 512GB storage is not that bad for the price. Ontop of that you get Thunerbolt 4 vs Thunerbolt 3 and you get some additional ports as well, plus a 10Gbps Ethernet port. I only wished it still offered digital out for audio. Having to use a HDMI to an optical splitter or a USB-C to optical audio adapter is annoying.

Today I also ordered the base M1 Max 10-core CPU, 24-core GPU with 1TB storage with estimated shipping between march 30 and april 6.

I was planning on buying a new Mini M1 as a replacement for my hackintosh, but I pulled the trigger on the Studio. It's probaby overkill for my usage, but I feel it's more futureproof with 32GB of memory. And it does actually feel well priced for the performance comparing it to a Mini M1. I'm looking forward to it!

I ordered the base Max model with a 1 TB disk a couple hours after the event to replace a Mac Pro 3,1 (2008). That's a 14 year old Mac. I am sure this Mac Studio will run circles around the 3,1. I just hope it lasts ten years. I can thank dosdude1 for the 14 years I got out of the 3,1 that is running 10.14.6 currently.

Shipping estimate is Mar 30 - Apr 6 by Standard Delivery

I got the base 10-24 with 32 GB of ram and 2 TB storage. Debated on 64 GB ram, but I'm currently on an M1 mini with 8 GB ram, so 32 should be just fine. I wanted to get the Ultra but I don't have that kind of money to throw around with the need. I hesitated trying to process the order and ended up with 2-3 weeks shipping (March 31- April 6)

Went with the 10/32, 64GB, 1 TB as well. Replacing my i9 9820X Hackintosh. Mar 30 - Apr 6. I have 2 Acer CB240HYKs and 1 Acer CB241HYK, and I'm happy with those. Don't need to spend another $4,500 to replace them yet, lol.
