Question for people who have ordered apple products during the pandemic:

Does UPS not require a signature anymore? Apple says they use no-contact delivery. Curious if they will just leave it at the door?

Past 2 years UPS has been dropping off Apple devices without signature but YMMV depending on where you live.

I live behind a secured gate community and none of the carriers have ever needed a signature; except for alcohol orders....o_O

Since we got shipped status at Apple, seems like Mac Studios passed customs, eh?

Yes UPS shows an import scan at 11:14AM on 3/17 so it has cleared customs. Mine still shows a delivery date for Monday, but AFAIK UPS worldwide should be able to deliver tomorrow assuming it’s on a flight to my regional hub tonight.

I’ve heard some say UPS has been conservative in their estimates during the pandemic so hopefully it’ll get updated.

The display is not getting good reviews.
But if you want 5k, then what choices are there? There's this, or an LG 5k 27". That's about it. Basicaly the quality of a 27" imac monitor witha fuzzy camera problem. But that's what I expceted for now, so I'll get one till they get a more pro version that's not $4-5k.

By the way last scan was:

03/17/2022
12:20 A.M.
On the Way
Arrived at Facility
Louisville, KY, United States
So why wouldn't this deliver Friday unless it's a ground service?

Apple did acknowledge the camera issue and said that it will be addressed in a software update.

Weird, I still don’t have import scan…

Back in 2020, it was no signature required but the driver had to see someone open the door and take the package. The procedure might have changed since then.

I bought the Apple keyboard with Touch ID. It arrived a couple of days ago and the driver required a signature, even though I authorized a release.

I can now see that the package I was tracking, which I thought to be the display, is actually the Mac Studio. (I was confused by the weight, which is 6.2 kg, while the machine itself weighs only 2.6 kg. That’s a lot of packing material.)

It’s still scheduled for delivery Monday. It got out of Shenzhen just before the lockdown, so I wasn’t affected at all.

Apple tells me that the Studio Display has also shipped and is scheduled for delivery tomorrow, but the tracking number they provided doesn’t show in the UPS system yet. It’s shipping by Next Day Air, apparently from a US warehouse in the US.

The UPS website says that a signature is required for my Studio Display. Oddly enough, it does not say that a signature is required for the much more expensive Mac Studio.

I just got an 'Import Scan'! :D Hope it comes tomorrow and not Monday though..

Got shipped text/email from Apple, etc. All signs point to Monday for me, though I suppose there's a small chance I'll get it tomorrow.

Saturday status changed from processing to preparing to ship. This morning UPS tracking by reference with my phone number gets the result

On the Way

Estimated delivery: Monday, March 21 by 7:00 P.M.
Today - Thursday March 17th - I received my shipping notice with tracking information. I can see on UPS that my computer was in Louisville at midnight. Still tells me to expect delivery on Monday the 21st.

First Mac Studio video reviews are now available!
I'm bummed that the reviews so far only talk about the Ultra... and yes I know the Max has been reviewed in the Macbook Pro but this is different. I will also say these reviews are making me rethink getting rid of my 2020 27 Imac... (a little).

Recently got an iPhone with UPS no-contact delivery. The delivery person said he only needs to record that he saw a person there to receive it.

The Verge tested both Max and Ultra for its review. Suggests that there is a barely perceptible performance differential!

depends what you are doing. the more complicated and intensive the task or multiple tasks, the more you will start seeing the difference. average use won't really see any difference.

Interestingly Apple Order Status page updated with delivery date of March 21st... Nooooo :(

As a fellow audio guy running on Apollo, I'm not even entirely sure I wouldn't be fine w/ base M1! Was planning on an M1 Pro desktop but I can't really keep holding out. I'm not really mad about getting a higher spec'd machine, though.

I think its a missed opportunity to push further, but when there is no competition at this resolution I imagine they've left something on the table for an update. I'm not really the audience for it, but when I moved to 1440p at home it made 1080 at work look awful. I'm up to 1440 at work, but I don't know if I'd see the same jump again. I suspect I'll upgrade in a few years when the OLED/mini LED/microLED/HDR stuff becomes more standardised. At the moment its all a bit of a mess.

I suspect you've nailed that. Multicore scaleability is still not very mature in a lot of workflows. I don't see much light up 16 cores. One advantage of the ultra is actually the thermal management; the ability to have work spatially separated means the heat is easier to dissipate. I'd love to see a variation of this fusion technology, I can't justify the cost of an ultra, but if there was a Max+moreCPUs option I'd be tempted.
