That is really ONE HELL OF A PRICE CUT!!! Did you guys ever see this coming from Apple? I really really really wanted 4 GB RAM!!! Sucks, but at $1799 one gets the 2.13 GHz and SSD!!! MY GOD, Jobs has been gone too long! Let's pray he decides not to come back. The new Apple, ready to sell more Macs than ever!
True but then look at what they've done with the MB...

Supports up to 6GB RAM
256GB SSD
Speed bump (upto 2.53Ghz maybe?)
New 13" display
New battery tech
FW 800 port
SD card slot (gimmicky but still...)
$1,199 to $1,499

Truly 'Pro' spec now confirmed in name. Every fibre of my body says I'd be mad to buy such a comparatively limp MBA update. Maybe my first thought about the rev.C being the last of the line is wrong, and maybe the 2010 rev.D will reclaim its flagship status with a spec to drool over. But for now, it's nigh on impossible to argue against a new 13 MB. And believe me, I cannot believe I'm saying that.

Damn, I really wanted 4GB of RAM to pull the trigger on a Air... :(
Now, i'm considering the MB. Two GB of RAM is just too little to work with Virtual Machines..
Damn you apple!

For me, i am not that disappointed. The only thing i would've liked was the inbuild 3G slot. Other than that the upgrade will be very good for my use (secondary computer). I think people who would like to use the MBA as primary will be much more disappointed :(! Considering the unbelievable improvement of the MB!

I am not that disappointed either. I was going to go buy a rev B with a 1.86 GHz if there was no update. I was going to spend $3k on a rev C that I wanted. I can live with the MBA for awhile as I don't need the power. So, for $1799, I get a faster MBA with SSD at a $700 discount!!!

At the same time, I do agree that the 13" MBP blows the MBA away in terms of power and capabilities... 8 GB RAM vs 2 GB!!! Lots of reasons to buy an $1199 MBP 13" like even the backlit keyboard for that price! I cannot believe how backwards the changes really were in the MBPs! Now FireWire 800 for all those that cried. I really think it was the complaints that made it happen!

For $1799, the 2.13 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD, in the new MBA is a great deal! I wouldn't have imagined these prices! Wouldn't have dreamed of these prices EVER!

Whyyy did they have to do this to me?! With those spec bumps and price drops on the Air, I was reaching for my wallet. But no RAM bump?! That's the single upgrade that I cared about most. Now I have to consider the 13" MacBook Pro.

Agreed. I'm getting one as soon as possible. Did they mention when the rev C air will be available?

8 GB RAM in 13" MBP vs 2 GB in MBA. If running virtual machines, go with the 13" MBP!!! If that's what you want.

LOOK AT THE SPEED AND PRICE IN THE MBA SSD and ONLY $1799!!! With a 2.13 GHz CPU... that's a fair deal. MOST people will not use the extra RAM anyways. At these prices, I can afford a Pro for my Windows/MAC, while still primarily using a rev C MBA... I CANNOT BELIEVE THESE PRICES!!!

Me2, I would prefer 4GB of RAM over all the other updates :(

And I see that there is already a new thread for this new dilemma! But I agree with you Scottsdale, it is a fantastic new value for the MBA vs what I was tempted to purchase just days ago. Now I have to reassess my needs. If I am still attached to the Air form factor but decide 2gb ram will not do, then I might consider an iMac and an Air.

Agree about the virtual machine thing. The only thing i am worried about is that the quality of the product will go down because of the price reduction. I always believe nothing comes cheap!

As soon as the store comes online, I am buying my rev C MBA!! For $1799??? Seems too cheap... what's the catch??? Is it lower quality? I think we were getting lower quality before.

What wasn't mentioned is the lines on the displays in the rev C MBA. Will they be there or NOT???

From what I read, the MBPs will be available today but I didn't see the same statement made for the Air, so not sure. Worth a short wait if necessary, though.

Apple never publicly acknowledged the lines on the rev B, and it's not the sort of thing they would mention in a keynote. I'm going to be optimistic and predict that the lines will be gone. I guess we'll know soon.

But I wanted an Air, I want a light laptop. I've already been there (Old MB), I want a light laptop :(

Arghh... I'll wait for the next Air !! I really want an Air with 4GB of RAM.

You're starting to sound like a Ron Burgundy-esque infommercial man ;)

Prices aside, the pros of the 13 MBP are:

+ FW800 (I likey a lot)
+ CPU speed bump (anyone confirm what this will go upto? 2.53? The 15-incher has a option at >3GHZ!)
+ 256GB SSD - joy of joys
+ Supports up to 8GB RAM
+ New Pro display with NO LINES (hopefully)
+ New battery tech (5-6 hrs? 15MBP has 7 hours)
+ Price - now down to $1499 for top spec

Cons are:

- Black glassy glossy screen covering and bezel
- 50% heavier and a bit thicker as before

I'm really at a loss what to do now....my heart still pines for my beloved MBA but my head says the new 13MBP is truly a Pro laptop, streets ahead of the MBA.

Shocked by the price drop as well. And as tempting as the new 2.13 Proc is, I might take a look at what apple does with the 1.86/SSD refurbs. If they came in close to $1299 I think I would sacrifice the small speed bump and the newness for $500.

Scottsdale, do you know if there are any technological improvements over the new chip, or is it just a speed bump?

Exactly where I'm coming from - hard to go back to the 'chunky' MB form factor after having an MBA, but.......

...Six months of 13-MBP, whilst waiting for an all-singing and dancing rev.D MBA form factor machine is not much of a hardship I think.

Um, OKAY, I didn't really expect an explanation. Do you know that I don't expect Apple to acknowledge that at WWDC? I just really want to know! We all want to know!

If you have a rev B MBA, it would be an easy wait for a rev D. My rev B MBA was stolen. I am stuck with a current uMB. I am so happy to see the price discount. I can buy the MBA for $1799 brand new from Apple and get a 2.13 GHz CPU. Comes with SSD. It's a lower end Mac now, but the price is there to make it good in these economic times. When the economy picks up, the MBA can get better and get a price bump to match it. But it is going to be hard for Apple to bump prices in the future. I think this is a FAIR upgrade and price to the MBA. It isn't everything I wanted, but for $700 less it's extremely fair!

If I had a rev B, I would wait for a rev D. Since my B was stolen, a rev C for me TODAY!

Ok, you said "what wasn't mentioned", so I was just saying it's no surprise it wasn't mentioned---which you already know. I'm as hopeful as you are that they get the screen sorted out on this one.
