I have a macbook pro 15" late 2016 (512gb ssd and radeon pro 455) for about a month, and since the beginning I've been experiencing a significative battery draining when on sleep mode.

It drains an average of 15-20% every 10 hours.

My old 13" Retina MacBook Pro used to drain 1-2% of battery in the same period.

For the record, it happens even after a fresh restart os macOS, with no open apps, bluetooth and wifi disabled, and with all energy saver settings enabled, with the exception of power nap.

I even tried to disable iCloud Drive sync and it still drains the same amount of battery.

Does anyone have this issue too?

Just for curiosity, I've contact apple phone support and the "specialist" said the following: "Since your macbook is cutting edge, it uses a lot of power for the great hardware it has. You can't compare your old 13" MacBook Pro with this one. Energy usage is way higher on your new macbook, even when in sleep mode. So, you should shutdown the machine as much as you can to save energy."

Mine drained 4% in 10 hours

I have a macbook pro 13 and bought last month. It drains 100% every night. I fully charged and next day early morning it's 0%.

I've been using macbook for 12 years and it never happened. Seems a very weird bug in this new model. I called apple and they just suggested me to reset nvram. Just did. I'll test tonight but I have no expectations it'll fix

Try disable iMessages. I found that it would wake my 2016 while sleeping, even with DND on. This resolved my sleep battery drain issues.

Did you solve this?
I got the same problem after ios update. It turned out to be "adjust keyboard light: on" to be the problem. After turning off automatic keyboard light, the problem went away.

UPDATE: Complete factory reset and reinstall of Sierra fixed this issue. Also noticed changes in some of the UI that wasn't there before. I believe my OS was corrupted before that was causing this.

I have this issue now. Got this 2016 mbp13 during launch actually. Didn't have any issues until recently. I'm not sure which app is causing this now but for the last 2 days when the battery is fully charged, I close the lid to sleep and then the next morning when I open my laptop, my battery is either fully drained or at 8% like this morning and very warm to the touch. Contacted support, they said to open activity monitor and see what is using the highest avg energy impact after I close the lid today lol. No malware on my computer detected, only thing that was running before I put it to sleep was safari, iTunes, imsg and maybe Firefox. Will update later. I don't know if I should be changing the system parameters with the code as I also came across this fix as described above but I didn't get this issue until recently. Maybe I'll try that if all basic troubleshooting fails.

Update:
During the time that I had my 2016 MBP 15" (no longer have it) that I was getting about 3 or 4 % drain overnight as I remember, which I thought was ok for me since the battery was still giving me great results so I didn't mind those %'s. I remember when I had the 2016 that I found this thread and followed the instructions to go into Settings>Notifications>and check the box "when display is sleeping".

Here's the update...since I've had my 2017 MBP 15" I've been paying attention to my battery and with the same settings as above ticked, I'm getting no drain in battery. For example last night about 11:00 pm I charged my laptop to 100% and even left it on about 15 mins more because I wanted coconut battery to catch up to the 100% reading that the MacBook Pro was showing so both showed 100% charged. I did not use the laptop in the morning but came home for lunch to use it for about 5 mins before I had to leave and it showed 100% I then closed it (I never power down, just close lid) and I didn't get a chance to open it again until I came home from work tonight. So according to Activity Monitor, time on the battery since I charged it was about 20.5 hrs and during that 20.5 hrs I only opened it once at lunch. When I got home tonight to use it..it was still showing 100%.

So the battery % did not drop in 20.5 hrs. I can't remember what version of Sierra I was using on the 2016 model but my 2017 came with 10.12.5

I'm not sure what has changed unless it's something in Sierra 10.12.5 because I'm using the same settings in the 2016 as I am on this 2017. Unless it's the Kaby Lake processors or something they updated internally on the 2017. Needlessly to say I'm really happy about not losing any % overnight.

Try not just close lid sleeping. Press sleep option at apple menubar manually to check this help.

[doublepost=1498671164][/doublepost]I had the same issue. But solved it by downloading a free trial of ClamXAV antivirus and scanned my mac. I found out two adware viruses were running all the time which made my mac behave very unusual. I was confused before, after full charge Battery Health app shows I can only use my mac for 3 hours. I suspected something is wrong. I usually get 7-10 hours of battery estimate. After removing the adwares and restarting, my mac is now normal like before. I hope this helps

100% is kind of a terrible place to start. Drain it down a bit and then see how it does overnight.

Yeah it's back to 3 to 4 % overnight. I'm still ok with that. I bet if I turned off wifi while its sleeping that would eliminate any % of drain overnight but I never do that.

The solution it's very simple. Just turn off TCPKeepAliveDuringSleep. Open terminal and enter command: sudo pmset -b TCPKeepAliveDuringSleep 0

Enjoy

I can expect my fully-charged mbp to drop 4-8% overnight (about 7-8 hrs) if it's not plugged in. 10% over 10 hours would be reasonable to me, but then I'm on a mid-2014. Maybe the 2016 is just more power hungry.

Hello, it seems that the correct command is:

sudo pmset -b TCPKeepAlive 0

BUT you'll get:

Warning: This option disables TCP Keep Alive mechanism when sytem is sleeping. This will result in some critical features like 'Find My Mac' not to function properly.

And when i check:

ioreg -l | grep IOPlatformFeatureDefaults

i get:

"IOPlatformFeatureDefaults" = {"TCPKeepAliveDuringSleep"=Yes,"DNDWhileDisplaySleeps"=No,"TCPKeepAliveExpirationTimeout"=43200,"NotificationWake"=Yes}

TCPKeepAliveDuringSleep is still active

I've been getting this issue on my 2016 tbMBP 13" since Wednesday/Thursday last week. The device is about 3 months old.

I noticed the device was hot to touch after my commute home in its bag (30-40 minutes) and will completely drain the battery overnight if not plugged in.

I've not got time to give the device over to Apple for extended testing as it's my main work machine.

Should I try re-installing macOS?

Here's a section of pmset logs... This is repeated all through the night until it dies:

I've been getting this issue on my 2016 tbMBP 13" since Wednesday/Thursday last week. The device is about 3 months old.

I noticed the device was hot to touch after my commute home in its bag (30-40 minutes) and will completely drain the battery overnight if not plugged in.

I've not got time to give the device over to Apple for extended testing as it's my main work machine.

Should I try re-installing macOS?

Here's a section of pmset logs... This is repeated all through the night until it dies:

Were you able to solve the issue after iOS reinstall??

Nope.

I've been to the Apple store twice now, first time they deleted the sleep image which gave the appearance of fixing it, and they reinstalled the OS to be sure. It was happening that day at home without putting software on, or even opening Safari etc.

I went again last night to explain this, they were sure it was because I had put my software back on (I had to - after I saw it happening - for work). We went round in circles and they reinstalled again. Problem still there last night, dead by the morning.

The issue I have is they are quoting 14 days to repair it at my local store with no loan machine.

They haven't identified the fault and won't say it's hardware, even though I've reinstalled again today (after format) and not even logged into iCloud and it happens.

AppleCare won't help either, they say they can pick it up but I'm still looking at 10+ days.

Monday I will take it into an Authorised Service Provider in the hope it will be a quicker turnaround.

Shocking! Wish I'd stuck with my old device.

I'm so sorry to hear that dude, now I'm entirely considering returning my MacBook 2015 and picking up the upgraded 2017 version.

Have you tried turning off the wifi (putting in on airplane mode) before putting the laptop to sleep?

That is an awesome response from Apple. Your macbook is cutting edge and has great hardware! Haha. Anyway, I noticed that iMessage notifications were waking up my MBP. The cheap fix is to force hibernate with a command line change. Then it won't wake up when you get notifications. I imagine with your 15" versions, it may be waking up dGPU as well when you are connected to an external monitor. I have not done this yet so I can continue to troubleshoot and look for other solutions. Command line: sudo pmset -b standbydelay 300

I have macbook pro touch late 2016 model bought in June 2017 and I am facing the same problem of getting the battery drainage on average of 13% in 12 hours even when I shut down the machine Apple logo >SHUT DOWN. I have noticed this started in same week I updated recent Macos Sierra version 10.12.6
The answer of support is really not convincing to me too. It's always pain to go to service centre and taking out backup and restore. I am really looking forward to know, why this is happening . Any comment from Apple.

Yes even deleted the only wifi on there.

Dude, I worked it out - my problems started on 20 July 2017 - the day after 10.12.6! This is so strange. Apple have been awful but they clearly don't know whats causing this.

My machine is now in for "repair" at an authorised repair centre so will report back.

After 3 days os testing, I've found something intriguing.

In my tests, the start point is about 90% battery, with default energy settings and power nap disabled.

Average battery drain for 8 hours with MBP turned off: 2%.
Average battery drain for 8 hours in sleep mode (bluetooth and wifi enabled): 15%.
Average battery drain for 8 hours in sleep mode (bluetooth and wifi disabled): 4%.

So, if I disable wifi and bluetooth the average in the same 8 hours drain drops to a satisfactory 4%.

This didn't happened with my old Retina Macbook PRO 13" Late 2013. I had the same battery drain both with and without wifi and bluetooth enabled.

So, my preliminary conclusion is that Macbook Pros 2016 do not really sleep as it should, but if they have a internet connection they are busy doing something instead of sleeping.

I strongly believe this is a serious software issue and Apple should address it ASAP.
[doublepost=1483621786][/doublepost]

After more than 1 month nothing has improved. So, I don't think more time would address the issue in my case.
I also have a battery drain issue with MBP turned off? While 2% may look normal I believe self-discharge rate when MBP is off (shut down) should be around 1%-2% per month, otherwise most people would be getting their MBP with dead batteries after ordering. Does anyone else experience self-discharge after completely shutting down your MBP?

Any improvement? I have similar issue with Early 2017 15" and wondering if software or hardware is guilty

All is good now.

They replaced both parts apparently.

I did have an audio issue (no devices available) in May which went away by itself, that may have been an early sign of the hardware issue developing?

Yeah it's back to 3 to 4 % overnight. I'm still ok with that. I bet if I turned off wifi while its sleeping that would eliminate any % of drain overnight but I never do that.
You should be ok with 3-4% per day as that is within spec. ;)
