guys it is clearly that the issue occurs when it's 44100, want a temp fix switch it to 48000 and wait for software update from apple, software takes long time to be produced.

It happens at 48 too but it is rare. With the latest Mojave and firmware it is even more rarer.

I’ll do another stress test with the new firmware. I didn’t do one early this week because I was double shifting.

I send mine back, as a private I would not risk it to be a hardware issue. If apple can fix it, I may buy it again.
[doublepost=1535036220][/doublepost]

Is there a similar solution for bootcamp?

I would also be interested if it is not a makeshift solution for bootcamp. Switch to 48k is not possible in the settings ...

Stress testing for the last 3 hours. Logic, YouTube, Spotify, iTunes. Rock, heavy metal, death metal, pop, techno, deejay record scratching battles, scrubbing movie trailers.

No crackling heard during this test with Mojave and latest firmware. Playback is perfect so far. Volume feedback sound can make a high pitched noise but very rare. Happens about once out of 100 times.

It's more reliable than the last firmware. I predict one more firmware/driver update and it will be all good.

Exactly, that is what i did, I am even able to reproduce it by setting MIDI to 44100 and play audio for a while, when it happen i press pause and change MIDI to 48000 and its fine. changing MIDI to 44100 occur when i open Garage Band or Logic X.

That is great news..considering others said they saw no difference its good news that the new beta update resolves this issue so I guess it was a software bug after all? Im getting my new 2018 macbook pro today and this whole crackling issue had me very concerned that it was something hardware related so if it is indeed software and will be fixed that is great news!

If relaunching 'coreaudiod' was resolving the issues then it had to be software. People who aren't involved in chip design don't understand how smart designers are. Drivers and firmware are another issue. It takes a lot of testing to get chipsets to work flawlessly with all the different configurations, apps, sources and types of audio.

It's just like graphics cards. The drivers need to be patched and updated very often. In Windows whenever new games come out Nvidia and AMD have to fix bugs and optimize for all the new triple A titles.

There are patches for exploits in Intel CPUs rolling out this week too.

yeah Im not familiar with what coreaudiod is..mac lingo is not my thing since Im used to PC..when I Read about this whole crackling thing and how not everyone was affected was worried it was a hardware issue, since Im an elite member at best buy I have 30 days for return/exchange and Im receiving mine today so will have to check it out, play with itunes, etc..but since the beta of mojave has fixed the issue on your end hopefully the final release will mean its fixed for everyone

Yes I did have that. I got mine replaced but the new one whenever I play a video, for example, the video pauses, the the video continues without audio for a few seconds. On any website.

I had this problem with two 2018 MBP's. I sent them both back. The only way to get Apple's attention is to impact there profit and loss for the quarter.

I totally agree w/ your 3rd sentence. Couldn't have said better myself.

The crackling / popping / echo / distortion issue happened to me once on my relatively new 2018 13" when listening to iTunes through the laptop speakers, but killed and restarted coreaudiod and haven't been able to reproduce the issue since. Have rebooted a few times since though, and I mostly use bluetooth headphones. Still really annoyed at the recent quality control issues and lack of fix, but I'm confident the fixes will be in Mojave once it's ready.

It doesn't matter whether you use 44,100 or 48000 the problem is there on both.

My macbook pro has arrived today and after roughly 5 hours of music listening on youtube the crackling noise started, strangely restarting chrome solved the problem.
For me is a software bug because it seems a very sporadic thing.

I got the new MacBook Pro 15" i9 version and I also had some problems with the audio, issues I encountered:
1. While watching a video (youtube/netflix/vimeo..whatever) on any browser the video would randomly stop for a second then resumes (muted!!), and then the audio would resume a couple of seconds after the video. But depending on the software I might need to interfere if it doesn't resume automatically like with chrome for example.
2. Another one would be that the audio gets muffled for some reason. Pausing and resuming the video wouldn't fix it, but using the arrow keys to scrub throw the video would fix the problem and it would resume at normal volume.

I've done everything I could software-wise to fix it but no luck. (reset PRAM, upgrading to Mojave beta software, installing a fresh copy of high Sierra, running the hardware diagnostic tool... etc)

I've got my MacBook Pro replaced, but still the same issue persists (way less frequent though).

I currently have a case filed with apple support and they now have the sysdiagnose for both machines and I'm just waiting for the result of their investigation...

Would probably be a good idea for everyone having similar issues to get in touch with Apple support as to bring their attention to the problem. I also sent the apple support representative I'm contacting the URL to this thread.

Same problem as your #1 issue. Watching a video (streamed, or mp4 I downloaded) on any software (Chrome, Safari, VLC, QuickTime). If the video is long enough (> 30mn) it generally happens. Sounds stop, the video stops after few seconds. If on safari, all will resume alone after few seconds. Chrome and other apps I have to manually close the tab/app and resume after few seconds.

I must say this must widespread, I'm currently on my 2nd exchange and the problem still persist. No matter what I'll do this thing is comin’ back.

P.S.

When I've received my 2nd machine, audio midi was set to 48k sample rate, and that could be the explanation why some users don't have this problem. I'm hesitate what to do cuz my 14 days return time frame is ending on Aug 28th wait or not???. I spoke today with Polish Apple Store Technical Support and they told me to send it to 'em for deep examination (c'mon really??? my 1 week old macbook) second option what they propose was to return :|

P.S. 2

I read that there is another way to get rid of those fancy crackling sound, try to disable siri (check on 44 and 48)

I'm getting that same distorted sound on headphones now. It started when I had Cubase and Youtube running at the same time. Since its on headphones for me it must be a software thing.
I haven't noticed anything when I used my external RME sound card

As someone has said restarting coreaudio solves temporarily the problem. Some news about a permanent fix? Maybe with mohave?

From what I can guess just looking at the tech industry. Windows received the microcode security fixes for Intel's chips yesterday.

The firmware and patches for the T2 chip would have to be tested with the new Intel microcode. If they released it earlier it could have resulted in issues. So I'm happy to wait.

happened for me for the first time today. not good. very bad, loud sound. also i think my headphone out has a permanent noise. not sure if i'm still in my first 2 weeks, so it's probably too late for a return. i've had it gradually freeze up a couple of times already, often when using safari. GUI became less and less responsive and forced shutdown was required. don't know it it's related

Which version of macos or bridgeos are you testing on? It seems no updates so far since beta 8 released this Monday.

Latest Mojave came with a new T2 firmware. It is very improved.

The next firmware and update will also include Intel microcode security patches that Windows received this week.

When the High Sierra update arrives it will have all these patches in one update.

Almost all the posts you are reading are based on older firmware.

I really hope it does solve it. QC issues had me return 2 XPS’s, hopes a mbp would be fine but I’m slightly hesitant to purchase one after keeping up with this thread, still have till ~5 September, so you think it’ll be fixed by then?
