All 3 of mine had that issue. I'd say it's safe to say that it happens to all of them.
Interesting to know. I’m going to an Apple store for something else anyway so I’ve made a Genius appointment for whilst I’m there and will see what they say. As mine is a BTO I’d much rather a repair than wait for a new one to be sent from China (to the UK), even though it annoys me a little that a brand new machine is needing fixing already.

still pondering if I should return my unit or wait for a fix and possibly miss my 14 days return window.

do you guys think there is any chance this issue will not get fix? or that it's a hardware issue and not software one?

Well it will be fixed either way. Is only a matter of time. If it is software will eventually come a fix and if it is hardware, Apple must eventually admit that they have a problem and swap the devices. For my part I have sent it back and wait until there is a fix. As soon as there is this I order a new one and use as long as my old 2014 model.

I solved the problem restarting coreaudiod in activity monitor but I don't use Logic Pro x, garage band etc.
I'm sure that's a software issue.

There should be a fix either way if it's hardware or software related problem, If Apple insists on not addressing this issue, there will be a lot of class action suits that will fall on them. So I'd rather wait.

I think that garage band and Logic Pro X trigger the issue, if you unistall them and restart coreaudiod the problem resolves so of course is a software issue.

Garageband, Logic Pro changes the Midi Format from 48000Hz to 44100Hz and 44100Hz where the crackling happens. So after opening any of these softwares it is advised to change it back from Audio Midi Setup to 48000Hz to mitigate the problem till Apple comes with a fix or explaining what is happening there.

I think peoples have this issue must give apple deadline when it would be fixed. If later they still not fix it, they have right to asking for refund.

If apple still keeping promise will fix it without tell you when it done maybe few months or few years, would you waiting it ?

until now officially Apple didn't admit any problems with the current macbook pro line. All you have read is just users experiences with Apple geniuses.. nothing Official yet.

You don’t have to uninstall them or restart coreaudiod, just turn back the MIDI setting output to 48,000 after close them and you will be fine.

I'm now on 44100hz for days and no crackling sound (after restarting coreaudiod), should I switch back to 48000hz?

It's happen randomly. do the flowing to know if you have the issue or not:

1. open MIDI and change output to 48,000 and leave it open.
2. launch GaragBand and see if it will crash the MIDI and change it back to 44,1000

let us know your test result. we just sharing our experience

I definitely had the problem before when it changed to 44100 but restarting core audio fixed it. Honestly I'm a little scared to switch it back to 48000 as I'm already a little paranoid about this issue XD
What's the difference between 44100 and 48000? Can I leave it to 44100?

If you scroll back a bit or read one page earlier you'll see that people using the new firmware say it is fixed. There's no reason to create new accounts and keep rehashing old posts. Makes you look like trolls and sockpuppets trying to spread misinformation.

Tech companies don't come out with "official statements" about bugs because bug-free software doesn't exist and never has and never will. They just release the fixes.

To be honest I haven't experienced any speaker issues but I know this is a legitimate complaint because of so many people reporting an issue. If the above post is accurate where Mojave solves the problem then that is great news. Mojave will probably be released in September or users can choose to use the beta version. Some good advice here, If you purchased online contact a manager in Apple customer service not AppleCare. Tell them about the problem and that you want the return window extended until Mojave is released. The Apple managers are more than accommodating and the extended return is a way out if the problem isn't resolved in Mojave.

I've done the same thing. Apple manager extended my current return window (which is ending tomorrow Aug 28th) till September 13.
I hope crackling problem will be fixed to this date
