My unit will be replaced for sure. Still strange that the Mojave Beta is way worse for me than the current High Sierra build.

At the moment, when I don’t disable Turbo Boost, it makes these noises as soon as I move the mouse or touch the trackpad. Had to take it to a meeting with a client and he noticed it right away.

Suplimental update 2 (I just installed) seemed to fix the echoing / glitching audio on my MBP. I still hear the pop on notifications but that honestly isn’t a big deal to me.

I have it also. It definitely come from the SSD.

It's not exactly a coil whine, but something very similar. It's like HDD scratching. The noise is like that :

I heard it for the first time while scrolling into my LR library. The noise is very low, you really have to put your ear near to the keyboard.

I can't reproduce it, but I'll record audio if it happen again

Guys. You are great. I actually returned my MacBook 2018 i9 after experienced all these noise issues. I also experienced this coil whine while trying to diagnostic the Speaker noise issue. I thought it might be fan however it was very much like a coil whine. Now after I watched this video I am curtain that it was a coil whine. Let’s hope they will fix all these issues in a short time period.

Even my late 2013 Macbook Pro has this coil whine issue when accessing the SSD. It's been five years now and they still haven't done anything about coil whine and ssd noise so don't get your hopes up. On the other side, I didn't have any issue with it so far and the coil whine is only really noticeable when I put my ear near the keyboard while doing file transfers. It's a non-issue.

Even my late 2013 Macbook Pro has this coil whine [snip]. It's a non-issue.

I had a 2012 MacBook Pro, 2015 MBP, 2017 MBP and a 2018 MBP that I've now returned. The 2012, 2015 and 2017 all had coil whine. Very quiet though, even in a dead quiet room it was only audible if you really, really went right up to it and really listened. However, the 2018 is significantly louder. I could sometimes hear it during the day and when it was quiet at night it was easy to hear and very distracting. So yes, pretty much all laptops have some level of coil whine. But the issue with the 2018 MBPs are that they seem to have much, much worse coil whine than any of the previous models since at least 2012.

Oh ok, I did not know that.

If my memory serves me right, I remember that back when I bought my Late 2013 one, I noticed the coil whine way more, because it was way more pronounced. Now, I don't know if they fixed something with a patch down the line, but it is not noticeable anymore.

Maybe people notice it more because they are actively listening for it or it is really just way worse than the previous models (I will test this when my 2018 model arrives) or, of course, really getting a faulty unit, but without real data we can't really make general statements about those issues.

Now I'm not saying that yours didn't have it and that I don't believe you. As someone like you with many different models over the years, your experience is probably way more refined and accurate regarding this issue than most people.

But as nature of forums like this, people mostly write when they have issues with something, or are actively looking for issues (which is not really a bad thing, considering the cpu heat patch etc).

I think it is important to make clear what "qualifies" as an issue and what not. It would be stupid for people to replace their 2018 models because they hear coil whine when they press their ears onto the keyboard but everything else is perfectly fine with the machine. As opposed to someone hearing coil whine while at normal sitting distance and actually getting distracted by it.

I found a new situation here. After testing the display models at retail stores, 13 inch, 15 inch , SU1, SU2, found that 15 inch models get much more crackling issues than 13s. Even the 13 ones that didn't get SU2 hardly crackles under my test (change buffer size to 32 & buffer range to small by LPX then play music in iTunes and browse Safari). But 15s with SU1/2 crackles all the time! So everyone claiming you are not getting crackling after SU2, are you in a 13 inch one or 15 inch one???

Can anyone confirm that the new HS update takes care of the sudden crackling? I'm playing a show tomorrow and would hate for my tracks to all of a sudden burst into a cacophony of crackles and pops...

I had a strange sound problem some days ago.

I was watching a video on a website at a low level between 10 % and 20 %. Suddenly, there was no sound anymore and it made a very loud BEEEEP at maximum volume or even more. I fast turned off the loudspeakers. It was so loud that it could ruin the loudspeakers.

I closed all programs and opened a music file with iTunes. I turned on the loudspeakers at 10 %, but there was still the BEEEEP coming every some seconds for less than a second.

The sound problem was gone, when I restarted the laptop.

Someone had also this experience?

good now we're looking to solve the issues in macOS. Like totally eliminate it.

If they could fix it 100% in Windows then that is not a hardware issue as many thought. It is just something completely broken in macOS itself.

Never thought I would see the day Apple fixes an issue on Windows/Bootcamp before it does on its own OS....
