Still some crackling issues at 44hz on HS and Mojave. I don't understand how it came back becausee Mojave beta 7 or 8 fixed it.
in HS even after update 2? Those who think of buying, like me, can not get an idea because there are those who say that the problem is there and who says that now has completely disappeared and the machine is almost perfect. Did you talk to Apple about these problems?

To all people having 2018 MacBooks 13'' & 15'' and having those issues... do you experience those when the audio is coming through your earphone for example?
If that's the case, IMHO, these aren't hardware (speakers) issues and such as is more possible to be fixed in a future software upadte/patch.
I want to replace my old MacBook Pro (mid 2010) two years now, but with all these problems to previous models too I hesitate.

Yes it’s audible in headphones or speakers.

Yep, I hear the pops through AirPods aswell, it's a Software issue that will possibly* be fixed in Mojave.

Got send mail to dealer that tomorrow will come back and asking for service....replacing topcase or full mac... i got issue filmed on phone, and only left speaker makes ragged noise

MacBook Pro 15, 2 weeks old...

There is still an issue with 3rd party USB audio interfaces, they still get a crackling audio glitch repeatedly.
You're not alone. God dammit, it drives me nuts. What I can tell is that it gets better with reinstalling just supplemental update, like for a day or two, or for a couple of reboots or whatever. It doesn't fix it completely but it does something that it's near to perfect after reinstalling supplemental 2 from apple (we can download .dmg file apart from appstore) but then it comes back...

To me it seems like there are some tasks T2 is doing and when it's not enough processing power for audio (especially within DAW workflow) it just can't handle all the tasks at once

Be it as it may. As someone who's a bit of an audiophile, it's rather disappointing and borderline negligent. How does a machine labelled "Pro" go from having a handy digital optical-out, to phasing it out, to finally not getting something as basic and paramount as sound output right (crackling right out of the box, apparently applying low-pass as make-shift solution etc), in a computer when you have total control over both the hardware component selection/design and OS it uses no less?

I can give Apple a pass when it comes to many of the MBP issues. But this one shows their slippage in quality is real.

Low pass? that's a new one for me, I listen to music 90% through my monitors, therefore through usb audio interface (focusrite 2i2) and it cracks and pops all the time here and there, but I didn't notice anything like low pass filtering anywhere but sounds awful already. can you go into more details about it?

Can't confirm for myself as I don't own a 2018 machine, hence the apparently part. But some people have noticed it. I'm hoping it isn't true, but I'd compare SQ before and after the supplemental update if I were you.

well, I guess I can't really tell because it's probably changing the firmware on T2 chip and it doesn't go back aparentely. Though, speakers are still quite loud and have really decent playback for laptop. In past I had 2016 15" and 18's speakers are a bit better that's for sure.
But as I've already said, don't listen to the laptop speakers that much, just to demo smth to customer or watch series in bed

True, you'll have to find a machine without the supplemental update applied and listen to a track you're familiar with and compare it to your machine on the spot.

I wouldn't worry about it regardless, unless it's applied system-wide and not just the built-in speakers.

I'm still getting the echoing after 20-30m or so. I tried to record a podcast a week back and after half an hour got echoing of my co-hosts I had to drop off.

Bloody infuriating. I hope they sort this out soon.

I'm very confused (...and disappointed).
Maybe after all, it's about the T2 chip itself and not about its firmware.

yeah, but as I've told earlier, supplemental update 2 changes something for some time and then it gets back.
T2 is simply another system in the system, it's kinda a10 iphone chip with different firmware, so, probably with right software engineering it should be fixable. at the end it's just a processor with 512mb ram on it, no less and no more.
My biggest fear is just that it isn't powerful enough to run all these features and it cracks and pops with ext. audio interfaces because it just don't have enough bandwidth and speed to do all the tasks it has to run

Those who own a 2018 model, have you tried to setting 'Hey Siri' feature off and see if this issue still occurs?

I can tell that with siri completely disabled it males 0 impact on that. Though it appears really randomly

P.s. @All, somebody have grandmaster mojave installed? Does it fix problem with audio? (I’m especially concerned about external usb audio interfaces)

@All audio guys over here, AFAIK i'd say that this audio thing is more or less dependant on usb ad/da converters (can't notice it with speakers/headphones)
Did someone tried it with thunderbolt audio interfaces? (uad arrow/apollo, focusrite clarett and so on)

Last week I received a custom Macbook Pro 15" 2.2 base model with an upgraded SSD to 512GB and I have no problems with speakers crackling or any problems at all.

Are there any other problems I should look for? I'm still within my return period, but everything is running fine so far. :)

If you buy a standard model, it's possible you may receive a laptop from one of the first few batches that were possibly faulty. They make improvements to the production line if any faults arise I reckon - and they keep their mouth shut unless it's a major problem.

Hi, thx for reply, mine is custom as well, though, i've received it in Germany in the end of August, should I go to the store and swap it?
Do you just use headphones and speakers or also external usb audio interface? (like the one to connect monitor speakers and XLR microphones, recording interface)

I received mine on 15th September. I haven't tested it with headphones or external speakers, but the standard speakers on the laptop work great so far. Much better sound than the 2015 15" Macbook Pro.
