Personally I would go with North Face over Tucano when it comes to bags. The North Face bags have a lot of pockets and compartments and are well made and designed. I take mine to work everyday now along with my laptop and/or my iPad.

Thanks, have settled on the North face Vault as thats a little more in my price range, thanks for your input

Edit: I've actually found the Borealis for £50! Happy days

I picked up an Ogio Bandit 17 for $54 a couple weeks ago to be my tech backpack for school/travel. It is normally $100+ so I really got a deal on it. I really like the fact that it has both a padded laptop pocket (up to 17") AND a separate padded iPad pocket. Plus it has enough room for all my books, chargers, accessories, cables, and school supplies.

Incase makes really good backpacks and are designed to fit apple products. Got one the other day and it has tons of room and pockets for accessories. It looks really great too!

I definitely agree! I've had issues looking for a "tech" backpack that isn't super masculine and incase has gotten much better about that!

Also, besides the ICON sleeve, are there any good sleeves that won't be huge on a retina MacBook Pro? I don't like that the icon is almost too tight but standard sleeves are way too big.

I can't scroll through 120 pages and there's no real search within a search, so curious if someone can help me with this. I'm interested in getting a Crumpler "The Fug" Neoprene Sleeve or something identical to it's size\opening. I can't see to find anyone who sells it for the 13" Macbook Pro Retina in the US, seems AUS only.

Anyone suggest somewhere I can buy it in the US? If not, anyone know of a simple neoprene sleeve with an opening on the one end (not a flap or zipper, just a simple sleeve.)

How about this one as an alternative.

By the way it does say on Crumpler's Australian site that they ship internationally.

I'm a musician and will be using a 15" Macbook pro on stage several times/week running Mainstage. I need a way to protect it from the possibility of getting dropped (beyond the obvious advice of don't drop it). Any suggestions?

I have that one. It's bulky as can be. It literally adds almost an inch all the way around. I get that it's for protection, but it literally makes the mac the size of a 15" when in it.

Yeah, Crumpler will ship a $30 case to me for $30 for the case plus $80 for shipping. That's absurd.

Looking for someone who has a suggestion for just a basic slip-in sleeve with no zippers or flaps.

EDIT: Based on doing some serious (borderline obsessive) research online, it looks like the Crumpler sleeve I want is the 13" Slim Fit. Problem is NOBODY in the US sells it. At first I saw the Crumpler.com pricing, and didn't realize just how badly the AUS Dollar has slipped compared to the USD. So for $48 USD they sell it including shipping to the US. Really not a bad deal. The price just looks bad in AUS. LOL. Ordered 2.

I'll be getting a 13in macbook pro retina soon

I'm stuck between two sleeves.

Or do you guys suggest something else? Thanks for your help

Well neither are sleeves. Not sure why they call them sleeves not pouches. If you sewed your shirt sleeve shut, it'd no longer be a sleeve. If a case has a zipper, it's not a sleeve, it's a pouch, or a case.... a sleeve is open on one end... like Webster's Dictionary says "Sleeve: an open-ended flat or tubular packaging or cover"

Purchased the Tech 21 Impact Snap for my new mid 2015. At $100 it was kind of steep, but we will see.

I bought the Tech21 shell as well as the Incase shell. Returned both of them. Neither fit amazingly, cheapens the feeling of holding the macbook pro. Mine is 13", I had gotten it to try and avoid finding a sleeve for it. No such luck.

Any messenger bag recommendations for the 15" rMBP? I've realized my current messenger bags are now too small

Fair enough. What you say is true but I have the Incase ICON and the bulk doesn't bother me. It's a trade of for better protection which is more important to me especially when I spent £1200 on the MacBook in the first place. Plus even with the case it fit's perfectly in the laptop compartment of my North Face back pack.

Yeah don't get me wrong, it's a great case, and by far the most clever use of magnets as a closure method. I never have dropped mine in 15 years owning mac laptops (knock on wood) and don't plan to, so the extra inch around every dimension to me is frivolous waste of space. :)

It's not so much about dropping. I was referring more to bumps and bangs against hard surfaces especially when taking it out of my back pack or carrying it on it's own. My back pack itself has a good padded compartment which is suspended from the bottom but I figure extra padding can only help.

I use to use a Tucano neoprene sleeve with my MacBook Air previously and whilst my Air never got damaged I felt it didn't provide enough protection from bumps and bangs. I don't really want to use those snap on polycarbonate cases and this is the next best thing plus I like the way the opening is designed with the magnates.

Well for light bumps and thumps, the Icon isn't going to provide any more protection than any other neoprene case. I've actually found for light bumps it'd appear to be worse for protection because of the hard plastic inner-molding contacts the edges of the Mac. However, the ultimate selling feature of the Icon case is the Tensaerlite material, which is designed to absorb rapid, high-impact contact with surfaces, i.e. dropping the entire thing on the floor. The physics of the case protection are only activated with such a hard impact.

There's no downside to TOO much protection, my comments were merely geared to the fact that the case drastically increases the size of the laptop in a case.... whereas the options like the Crumpler Fug (medium protection) and Radtech Sleeves (little or no protection except from dust) provide a calculated balance of form factor elegance and protection level.

I wish Incase made the same model with the same magnetic closure without the Tensaerlite material. Would trim nearly 15% of the cases's size. Oh well. Anxiously awaiting my Crumpler The Fug to be delivered from Australia. Until then, the Icon will have to do.

Fair enough.I see your point. I have considered myself trying something different due to the bulk and I may well do at some point. For now I will continue using the ICON case.

It's without a doubt the best quality case on the market at the moment. Not to mention the coolest design with the magnetic closure.
