Hi there. We thought this would be a worth while video to share on the forum as it shows the best way to put your device inside one of our sleeves. Our design is a snug fit so we thought it might be helpful. The sleeve in the video is a Retina sleeve that we recently received back from a user.

I'm not sure I would share this video......

So I need to use both hands to get it into the sleeve correctly after balancing it on my legs then pulling it into my gut? Good thing I'm not preggers. Looks like a pain in the ass!

You've just alienated a big chunk of your customer base with that patronising video? You come across as saying "Derrrr look how easy it is you damned idiots"

Bingo! And it really is not that easy or efficient on the go. I want the sleeve in one hand and Macbook in the other. Slide the Macbook in and done. There is not even a counterargument with their design being snug for protection reasons. The design is too snug. The design is poor, if not wrong.

Received my Outback Laptop Sleeve for my Macbook Pro Retina Display from WaterField Designs

If it's a pain in the "ass" you may have it the wrong way round.

Looks like their most bulky and generic offering =\

Any recommendations for a good everyday briefcase style caring bag? I guess i dont need anything too bulky. I have a picaso labs skin on the way. I just want something professional looking that i can carry to school/work and have enough room for the charger, notebook, and a few accesorries without it looking bulky from being packed with too many things like my old incase sling bag did. Thank you guys for your help.

That's really a matter of personal preference. That Racer-X bag you were considering is pretty darn ugly, but is also likely of very high quality. :D I recently bought the medium cargo mambo combo from sfbags, and I really like it, but you're probably looking for something different. (Now, if only my rMBP would ship ... :eek:)

You might want to go to ebags.com and browse around, as they're got a huge selection. However, pay close attention to any reviews; many cases are great, but others are, well, "not great".

Awesome. I will check it out. Thank you for the recommendation! btw how do you like the cargo mambo from sfbags? quality? feel? any pictures? i was looking at that bad too but it was a little more pricey.

Just ordered my colcasac for my 13in MBP. Pretty excited, ordered it at like 2:30 pm and they shipped it out same day (i paid regular shipping) at like 4:30 pm. Can't wait!

How do people like the Colcasac sleeves?

I see the video posted on this page and see a couple complaints about it being too snug. Are they all extremely snug? Or is this just on the rMBP sleeve?

I have a rMBP and have ordered a incase neoprene slim sleeve for $31 shipped, and am also interested in getting one of the colcasac sleeves. I would like to hear from some people that actually have one for their retina.

I've read them to be a little looser for non retina? But ill let you know when they come in. You might want to order NOW though, there seems to be some sort of online discount on the colcasac site, if you pick a sleeve and add it to cart, there is an automatic discount. I got mine (brown for mbp13) for 29$ shipped i think.

btw, the case is strictly for scratches when the mbp is in my backpack or on my desk or something. I dont expect to ever drop my MBP bc i handle it with lots of care and security. So its just for looks and to avoid scratching

EDIT****: nvm, i lied. I just tried adding a sleeve to cart and there was no discout. Somehow i got a discout (maybe making a new account?) and i had gotta a 40$ sleeve for $29 shipped. Figured it out: somehow i used the code "applestaffcode2012" and it worked for me. But for some reason it's not working now.....here is my receipt

Hanakapiai
* Size: 13 MacBook Pro
* Quantity: 1
* Price: $40.00
* Group Total: $40.00

Subtotal: $40.00
Apple Staff Discount: -$14.00

Don't know how they can tell if you work at apple or not, but the coupon worked for me earlier today as i made a new account and put it in. weird

I like this bag, and the quality seems to be great (with one small exception -- see below):

  • This is a messenger-style bag with some nice briefcase-style handles. In particular, note that the messenger strap is permanently attached to the case.
  • Note that the case itself has no padding, and so the sleevecase is required for laptops.
  • The neoprene in the sleevecase is maybe 1/8"-1/4" thick (it seems slightly thin to me, but maybe that's just me), and is covered by heavy-duty nylon. It seems sturdy enough for protecting against everyday bumps and scratches, but I wouldn't trust it for any significant fall. However, in all fairness, I don't think I'd trust any sleeve-like case to protect against a significant fall.
  • I don't have any pics, but check out the youtube videos from the sfbags web site: the gadgetmac overview shows lots of close-up pics, and the sfbags video explains many of the features (make the videos full-screen and choose the highest available HD resolution).
  • I actually like the styling of the cheaper "indium" pattern over the leather. I almost got the yellow indium color as shown in the gadgetmac video, but ended up getting the celeste indium color, which is really a shade of gray -- there's only a hint of green under some lighting conditions. I did get the sleevecase with the leather trim, as shown in the video, except that I got the optional flap.
  • I'm not sure if getting the sleevecase flap was really a good idea, as it's a bit difficult opening and closing the flap while the sleevcase is in the case. I suspect that I'm just going to keep the flap folded all the way back (open) while the sleevecase is in the case. This means that the rMBP is free to slide in and out of the sleevecase. Zipping up the case should hopefully prevent any problems.
  • The actual outside case dimensions are bigger than the ones listed in the web page (which might be inside dimensions??). I have the medium case, and the empty case (except for the sleevecase) is around 18 by 12.5 (not counting handles) by 5-6 inches (but you can compress the empty case down to maybe 4 inches or less). This is not a small case. It's about the size of an old-school briefcase.
  • My sleevecase barely slides into the case opening. This isn't really a problem, but the remaining space inside the case seems a bit tight. At the bottom, you have maybe 1.5-2 inches of space. If you were to put a sliced-bread sandwich in there, it would end up being a bit compressed. There's more than enough room for a notebook and some accessories, though.
  • The paraglider buckle is cool, as is the strap adjusting buckle.
  • The half-moon zippered compartment under the flap is larger than what I expected. You can easily fit, say, 3-4 naked iPads into it (not that you'd want to do it, just that you can). The video shows an Apple bluetooth keyboard fitting there, but I don't think I'd put an unprotected keyboard into this space. Once you start stuffing the case and this compartment, note that the overall case might be rather fat. (OK, I just stuffed some books into the case and various pockets, and got the width to balloon out to 7-8 inches.)
  • The outside case material, while sturdy, attracts a lot of dust. I think that says more about the state of my floors, than the case, though. :p
  • There is one part that doesn't seem sturdy: the plastic keychain clip. As you have to bend a piece of plastic to get a keyring on or off, I can easily imagine it breaking after a while. However, I haven't actually broken mine, and so I don't know if this is a real problem. I don't use keychain holders, and so I don't really care about this. Others might, though.
However, is it worth the price? While the construction and quality feel great, it is certainly expensive. I think this is the biggest question, here, and the answer to this is different for everyone. I think I'd buy one again, but barely (and maybe in a different color).

Can anyone help me out with a new bag?

I really like this one:
http://www.sunnysports.com/prod/KLTP...i_sku=KLTPWJTN

I love that you can store the straps away and turn it into a messenger bag, and that it apparently has a lot of room for crap (I carry my MBA, lunch, a tablet, books for school etc.). However, it is a tad pricy

I like this one as well:
http://www.patagonia.com/us/product/...0-361&pcc=1128

But it's a little too sporty color wise, and doesn't seem to have a stationary bottom. Does seem like I can put a load of stuff in it though.

Does anyone know of a good fit, or perhaps that meets both half way?

I now have a NorthFace Surge as my backpack for my laptop. Incase sleeve for my sleeve for the rMBP. Then a carry around is the Timbuk2 Control briefcase.
