I have been using a Colcasac for a few weeks and recently used it on a 2 week vacation, coupled with the Crumpler Gypsy Moth Flight bag. I've noticed that the Colcasac has gotten a little looser than when it first arrived. It is a snug fit and I like it. It fit well into my bag and traveled well.

During airport screenings, I just pulled the laptop in the Colcasac out and placed in the bin. It looks pretty nondescript while protecting the exterior. It adds very little bulk as well.

I was impressed with my Gypsy Moth Flight bag as well. It fit under the seat well in airplanes, carried all my necessities and had a great accessible but somewhat hidden zipper pocket for tickets and my wallet. I also like that the bottom is waterproof.

I have a Swissgear backpack with a built in laptop sleeve. I also have a Built laptop sleeve very impressed with this sleeve better padded than Incase to me. I use this sleeve when I want to put it in my Michael Stars messenger bag :)

just received my waterfield sleeve/case...i like it a lot and looks great but i have to admit i wouldn't put its value at 111$. Its a 50$ 60$ dollar product.

I'd put the value at least $80, given the high-quality materials and workmanship.

On the other hand, you could say that a cheaper, lower-quality, $50-$60 bag is "good enough" for many people.

I'm generally not a fan of the SFBags/Waterfield but I think they look too generic. Having said that, I think our view is somewhat distorted when we pay for things that aren't mass produced/made in a country with extremely cheap labor. I'm willing to pay a little more for custom made items and things made by smaller companies.

I'm looking into getting the horizontal version of this bag and ive been wondering, does the piggyback feel secure, or is it constantly flopping around? Thanks for posting your photos!

You have 3 products on there that adds up to $111. Strap, sleeve, piggyback.

No offence, and fair play to the company as their margin on those must be immense.

It's difficult to tell the quality of the US-made product just by the pictures. It's their choice of materials, place of manufacturing, thoughtful design and workmanship that makes it relatively more expensive than others.

If you compare it side by side with its competitors, you will understand why it costs more. If you don't see, or appreciate it, then stick with the cheaper brand. That's how people make purchases all their lives. It's like buying a bottle of wine. Why buy an expensive one, if a cheaper one satisfies you more.

yes and no that's tough to answer..the components are high quality so it is very secure and not coming off. the design dictates that it does have some room to flop around a bit. But over all its very fluid and stays in place walking. even briskly.

to the posters above: i do think the item is a bit overpriced whether it be mass produced or one at a time and I'm aware of how many items i ordered. I was there.

Just my opinion.

I'm using the Booq Vyper M3 with my rMBP, and to me, it fits perfectly. I don't notice any movement at all.

+2. I am also planning to do an extensive review on the etsy leather case maker Picasolab with some High Resolution Pictures to go along. I like picking up some etsy things that are indeed homemade. There have been issues that some people that sell on etsy do not hand make things or if they do, they are contracting small manufacturers to hand make things...which i'm sure is not the type of businesses we are hoping to support on etsy.

:)

I was waiting for hard cases from speck but seems that they would be available only in August.
by any chance, has any one tried below cases. Any reviews....

I purchased one of these and will be returning it. The MBPr got very hot in the case. I am not sure if they actually tested it before it shipped.

I have browsed about half of the latest pages in this thread. Is is safe to say no hard shell cases are out yet?

I sent email to Moshi and they will have one in September but that seems like eons from now.

How do people like the Colcasac sleeves?

I see the video posted on this page and see a couple complaints about it being too snug. Are they all extremely snug? Or is this just on the rMBP sleeve?

I have a rMBP and have ordered a incase neoprene slim sleeve for $31 shipped, and am also interested in getting one of the colcasac sleeves. I would like to hear from some people that actually have one for their retina.

i bought one 4 years ago for my mbp and decided to handwash it the other day. bad idea. even letting it air dry it shrank to a size the laptop wont fit anymore.

After thoroughly reading and reviewing all posts and links I've managed come up with this.

Looks like for my use, which will be to and from class and work, this will be the most effective route.

White iCarbon bottom

Lastly, some nice laptop backpack like the previously posted Targus 16 or a Northface one.

Overkill? Eh, I want to make sure my new retina is not damaged.

there is one from Kuzy on amazon available right now. Someone earlier on this thread said it makes their laptop get too hot. The reviews on amazon for the retina version are pretty good so get it if you feel like taking a chance at $25.

I personally bought the kuzy case, it cost only $25 and I don't expect my laptop to get too hot anyways for what I use it for. Just waiting for it to get shipped now.

just using the black 15" laptop neoprene sleeves sold at dollarama for a buck. good enough for me :)

Not arguing with any of that, but like I said, huge margin on that case.

While I''m sure the margin is decent (and possibly even more than decent, as they're selling to Apple users), they're in San Francisco (and they claim that everything is made in SF). Between the high rents and the high minimum wage ($10.24, $3 higher than the rest of the US), the margin probably isn't as huge as you make it out to be.

On the other hand, I think you'd be right in saying that they're probably insane for doing business there.
