I would say that if you have a backpack with a padded laptop compartment, you will be ok.

There have been times where I had a backpack on and I sat down on the DC Metro train with full weight and not damaged my laptop. I think the fact that it was a regular backpack and not one designed for laptop protection, you will be fine with using it in a backpack.

My favorite ones right now are the Waterfield backpacks.

I do have one backpack that "says" it supports a laptop, but the padding is very weak and minimal. I bought it anyway because it is a collectors edition Nintendo retro NES backpack.
I think I'll probably give it another go then, perhaps I've been a bit too cautious.

How do you guys stop your macbook from bending if it's stored in a backpack? This is generally why I avoid it.
I try and keep a binder between it and the rest of my things, the laptop itself sits sleeveless in my laptop compartment.

[https://www.freitag.ch/en/r522] is the one I use ... If I had to buy again I'd probably choose [https://www.freitag.ch/en/f306?v=5214061] instead.

I perceive the most danger for laptops as coming from impacts more-so than bending, so long as you don't make a habit of carrying bricks ;).

Cool bags and cool concept. Used truck tarps. Interesting.

I got one of the 2 sleeves I ordered in the mail today. The Nidoo came and it fits very well. The only gripe I have and its very minor is the feeling of the outside. It’s a little rough. I prefer the soft feeling of the classic Incase neoprene sleeve. I’ll definitely be holding onto this one as the MBP fits so nice inside and barely has any room to move but isn’t too tight where it’s hard to zip up. I can take pics if anyone wants. It is by far the closest spec wise I’ve seen and it was only $13.99 on Amazon. My Incase is supposed to be delivered on the 24th. I’m hoping sooner!

I’d like to see some pics!
I ordered the Inateck case from Amazon. Looks like they could well be the same case rebranded. Mine is arriving today.

Case is in and the fit is good. Glad I finally have a hard shell to protect this 16” M1 Max

It's the benzer: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09L5BXXW8?ref=ppx_pt2_dt_b_prod_image&th=1

It's not like an Apple store available shell but it feels like it'll get the job done. I've had shells like this in the past for my old 2013 MBP and just bought new ones if the old one cracked. I'm just glad I'll have something to keep my backpack from scratching my 16".
Wow, thank you for the info. Didn’t know they were selling it for the 16.2 mbp. I had one for my 2019 16 inch and while it wasn’t perfect, it did the job until i was able to purchase the moshi iglaze. Is it a soft finish like the 2019 16inch ones?

yeah it's like a matte finish, not a clear one. I prefer the matte finish cause it doesn't show every scratch.

Awesome. I’m going to get the black one since that’s the one I had for the 2019 16inch. Too bad it’s not available till December. Still Stoked. Thanks again.

Apple??

Why can't apple make a case/sleeve/cover hell I don't care just make something apple ill use it. The bumper is great with a front and back protective skins, and the new iPad smart case solves the only problem the smart cover had. Ok sure it sits a lil different and standing up its not as sturdy but I'm confident it won't fall plus I hardly watch stuff on it now that I got this new retina pro. I just feel like Apple would put out a legit contender in to the market plus Ill take a free engraving and the Apple logo still out in view any day!!!
They do! There’s a very slim leather wallet for the new MacBook Pro’s. Only problem is that it costs £200 in the UK?

I've been using my Peak Design Everyday Backpack V2 I got over the summer and I love it for carrying my laptop + any camera gear.

Most of the time though I use it as my everyday bag and it has room for my toiletries, AirPods, change of clothes, cables. etc.

What's great is that I was using it with my 15.4" inch - but the laptop compartment is adjustable so you can fit in smaller laptops and keep it suspended to protect from any drops and knocks. Haven't brought my 14" inch around too much but it will fit just fine in this bag.
The Peak Design backpacks are great if you carry a lot of photo gear with you. I ended up selling my v1 when I moved to a more compact camera system, i.e., Fujifilm X100F. I still have my DSLRs, but never carry more gear than what can fit in my ONA messenger bag.

I do have a HUGE Amazon Basics 17" Laptop/camera gear bag. I use it to store all my extra gear that I don't usually have on a shelf like extra cables and stuff like that. My camera bodies, lenses, and flashes are all on a shelf where they are easy to grab. And don't mind the camera strap, I left it on just for the photo. LOL!

Any see a sign of wrist guards for the new 16in models? I thought the old 16 in ones might have worked but the keyboard layout cuts into where they would sit.

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows why the apple website doesn't have any hard shell cases for the new MBP's available?

I would really appreciate suggestions for the most protective hard case for the 16 inch M1Max MBP please? Where can I buy it?

Thank you!

Anyone going case-free? I mostly use front-only smart covers for iPads, so it seems there‘s little need for a cover to protect these MacBook Pros—especially the silver one that presumably shows scratches less.

I am not getting a hard shell case nor a skin on mine. I have a sleeve for when I use my messenger bag (without a dedicated laptop compartment) or a backpack with a dedicated laptop compartment.
