Another fan of WaterField Designs. I have acquired quite a few bags and cases from them over the years. My first was the Muzzeto bag in 2010 after the original iPad was announced. I seem to always go back to them, even after using much more expensive luxury brands. Quality and functionality have always stood out over others I have tried. I have a 14" case and another backpack arriving on Sunday/Monday.

My Waterfield Outback Duo Laptop Brief bag just arrived in Rome, Italy. Great construction and look. Has plenty of room for my MBP 14" and iPad Air plus assorted accessories and papers/travel docs. I'm happy even after advance paying for import duty/fees that added about 30% overall.

Does anyone know what the deal is with Waterfields waxed canvas sleeves, cases, and bags? They're all listed as being "waxed canvas with grizzly leather" but the pictures show several variations of color. I know leather can naturally vary but canvas?

Mostly the waxed canvas is a light brown. Grizzly leather is just the leather parts and accents of the bag (like the base of the sleeve). Some bags you can get chocolate leather, which is a darker brown vs the grizzly which is a much lighter brown leather.

Thanks so much. I reached out to WF via the chat to ask about the color variation and they said it is, and has always been, just one color. There is a video on the Sleevecase listing that shows numerous different colors so I suppose it's just luck of the draw. I also understand that lighting could play a role in how the pictures turned out.

My duo outback is the color of your first pic. I have several of their products in “grizzly” leather ot waxed canvas and they all match. A nice weathered look.

I can confirm Incase Facet Sleeve for the MacBook Pro 16” 2021 fits.

The zipper 90° edge does bulge a tad (a few mm) but it’s hardly noticeable. I’m sure it will stretch and I’m ok either way.

I like that the opening is good for a zipper case since it unzips 180°, giving access to the interior pockets and more room for ingress/egress. I prefer this design to top/edge most zipper cases.

The case does have internal pockets with minimal padding. It would be good for dongles, flash cards/drives but not a charger or thicker items without bulge.

The tweed is tight, good feel and has some grip.

For comparison, the size/thickness is about the same as Native Union Stow Slim. I purchased the Stow Slim “incase” the Incase Facet didn’t work out.

Amazon had a 30% off coupon clip.

My Outback Duo in ballistic nylon / chocolate leather is arriving on Tuesday. I briefly had one of their waxed canvas products but didn't like the 'sticky' sort of feel of the canvas.

Taking a bit of a chance here, but ordered this one - confirmed that it's made for the new 16" macbook pro... reviews are very good for other models. A bit pricey though!

Figured I should update in case anyone followed this link - although I had double checked that the company was making these for the 2021 M1 Macbook Pros, and they proudly told me they indeed were ("of course!" was the reply), they were mistaken. The case itself was very high quality and looks like it would be very nice for an Intel Macbook... but was quite expensive, so it's going back!

Seems like many smaller 3rd party hardshell cases are listed on Amazon as coming out Thanksgiving ?week. It then shows delivery dates late Dec ( 20th ) to early Jan. So it maybe awhile before we actually see a selection of hard cases for the MBP.

Anyone with a Waterfield SleeveCase for the 16" M1, do you find it too tight? I've become somewhat paranoid of cases actually damaging/scratching the aluminum or putting too much pressure on the keyboard/screen when closed, as I've had this happen a number of times over the years with cases I thought were providing decent protection.

I've had a zippered sleeve where the zipper dug into the sides of the MacBook because there was not enough padding between the two. The TamToc looks decent here if it's not too tight in the edges and properly seated in the groove, but the photos of the circle pattern being left on the MacBook scares me off (even if it can be wiped off). I've had a tight InCase vertical sleeve rub off the anodized aluminum coating from inserting and removing the MacBook. I assume it was too tight, which is what I'm concerned about with the Waterfield SleeveCase (along with pressure on the screen).
Dash sleeve case? If so see my reply couple of pages back. Short story, I sent it right back for a refund.

I am a fan of backpacks.
I would like to have something like a rather small/minimal backpack for macbook 16', and also being water resistant.

That release date though.

It seems like we have to wait until the holiday shopping season starts for hard cases to finally show, and even that isn't always a guarantee if they are not already in the country.

I'm still waiting for a product from Amazon that was due in October, but had it's ship date moved to Dec 15, because of shipping issues.

That's also not considering that is the earliest option, which doesn't mean it's the best option.

I am really surprised at how slow the cases are coming out. I am not sure if it is a supply chain issue or they were caught off guard at size/shape/dimensions for the new MacBook Pro.

Even skins are nowhere to be found.

There are tons on Etsy. I just ordered a few.
Skins are rarely an issue, as small artists/crafts/sellers can adjust their processes easily once they know the proper measurements. Etsy thrives on a 'made to order' model, so there isn't a large ramp up, adjusting to new products.

Cases on the other hand require adjustments in their manufacturing processes as they usually produce in higher numbers before getting any orders.

It's the trade off we get with Apple's secrecy, that every now & then 3rd party accessory makers are caught off guard.

100% with you, I think they are based on the 13" model and they adjust for the extra dimension. I'll see when I receive the goods.

Just received my Waterfield Neo sleeve for my MBP 14” and it is a perfect fit. Quality seems great too and fast shipping to the UK. MacBook doesn’t slide out either which is a plus. Hope this helps?! 😊
How do you keep it from falling out as it’s missing zipper for closing?

The Waterfield Sutter Slim will hold the 16". I tried it at the Apple store when I was deciding on the 14 versus 16. In the end, I chose the 14" for easier portability. The 16" fit fine in the backpack and zipped closed without any difficulty.
