My 16” MacBook pro is coming today, I had to pull out the wallet and get some sort of protection.

I was on the fence with a sleeve or bag. I used to own a in case sleeve for my older 15” MacBook Pro.

But I am kinda scared sleeves with zips will scratch my brand new toy. I went with the WaterField Outback Solo Case.

Hopefully it will last, as it’s just as pricey as the MacBook Pro.
Good choice. Went with the outback duo and love it!

Anyone ever tried, a case-skin?
Any experience? Does it offer the basic protection from scratches? Anything else?

My wonder is about the adhesive material. If I ever want to pull it out, will mbp be untouched, or will it have stains of glue on it?

I have not seen any know brands with such case-skins.
But on ebay some options like these make their appearances, now that I am looking for the new mbp.
I’ve used skins for years and have never had an issue with discoloration or residue. My go to skin is from dBrand. I am not familiar with other brands.

The dBrand skins help agains scratches and provides texture.

Photos make it look a little bigger than expected.
The 12.5-13inch fits better than the 14 inch varient?
Yes, surprisingly. I was confused by the product title/description for sure… but going by internal dimensions, this is the one that works best for a surprisingly great fit.

Nice sleeve! (And nice CTRL as well! what switches are you running?)
Thanks, it’s working out well so far! Also thanks on the drop compliment, my favorite keyboard of all time. I’m running the Kailh BOX whites on this one, my favorite clicky switch. Lightly lubed and “band-aid” modded stabs = typing heaven, lol.

i got a hard case sleeve. it's really thick and protect.

It's too bulky imo - need something like a neoprene sleeve. Maybe from the bay area or something.

Anyone see any other sleeves on Amazon that are similar in function to the SFBags Waterfield Neo Sleeve for MacBook Pro 14 ? ( https://www.sfbags.com/collections/macbook-cases/products/neoprene-sleeve-macbook-pro ).

Thanks for sharing any links if you have - as I am looking for something simple like that.
Just received my Waterfield Neo sleeve for my MBP 14” and it is a perfect fit. Quality seems great too and fast shipping to the UK. MacBook doesn’t slide out either which is a plus. Hope this helps?! ?

Just received mine for the 16" MBP, and it is uneven in sizing, stitching is crooked, and the leather panel is attached crooked. I've sent an email to see if I can get the issues addressed, as I was a bit shocked by the poor quality control. I've owned WaterField Designs cases and sleeves in the past, and they've always been top-quality.

Do you know where your sleeve is manufactured?

Please send photos. I was considering this one. Thanks

How easy is it to slide the MBP into the Waterfield sleeve? I'm looking for a sleeve where it's easy to slide in. I'm currently using the Tom Bihn Cache (older version without the zipper), which has been great since it's easy to use (and not sure if I'm a huge fan of the zipper which is the only one they offer now).

Pretty easy. The inside is lined and the pro slides in. To get it snug there are little fabric handles on the side of the opening(horizontal or vertical) that you use to get it in good. It is a snug fit then. You grab the leather bottom to pull it out. Very simple and easy.

I purchased this for a 14" MBP

It was cheap but feels well made and more importantly for me is pretty rigid:

Oh no that’s not good to hear! I’ve checked mine again and the leather panel stitching isn’t the best but it’s not something I’d notice straight away without scrutinising it. Maybe they were in a rush to get them shipped out?
Let us know what reply you receive back from them.

This might be a dumb question but do you close your MBP with this keyboard overlay? or do you remove it first?

I’m so sorry just saw this! You probably got an answer but technically Apple says to take it off but I usually don’t. It left marks on my last MBP screen though so I’d remove it if you can, I’m just lazy.

I’ve never tried a skin. On my first MBP I had a clear plastic InCase for a while. This was years ago. Since, I’ve kept my MBP naked. The aluminum is incredibly resistant to scratches. my old one had a ding or 2 from a stupid drop, but otherwise the aluminum stays looking new real well.

There are tons on Etsy for Macbook Pro 14 sleeves, FYI. Some of them are real leather only $40 USD before tax and ship.

Anyone with a Waterfield SleeveCase for the 16" M1, do you find it too tight? I've become somewhat paranoid of cases actually damaging/scratching the aluminum or putting too much pressure on the keyboard/screen when closed, as I've had this happen a number of times over the years with cases I thought were providing decent protection.

I've had a zippered sleeve where the zipper dug into the sides of the MacBook because there was not enough padding between the two. The TamToc looks decent here if it's not too tight in the edges and properly seated in the groove, but the photos of the circle pattern being left on the MacBook scares me off (even if it can be wiped off). I've had a tight InCase vertical sleeve rub off the anodized aluminum coating from inserting and removing the MacBook. I assume it was too tight, which is what I'm concerned about with the Waterfield SleeveCase (along with pressure on the screen).

Yesterday I had to travel so I put my 14" in the old Tucano neoprene sleeve I bought for my 13" MacBook Air in 2011. I was worried it wouldn't fit but it does and actually the sleeve feels a bit loose around the 14". Although it will be a temporary solution and I will sell or give away the old sleeve when I find someone who needs a 2011 MBA.
