Anyone else have a case solution that they can use when going through TSA? Hate to take it out of my sleeve case and put it in the bins without anything.

Wow that is horrible. It’s hard to tell from the picture, but what is causing that discoloration? Was it gunk that built up over time? Or some kind of friction?

I’ve had a hard shell on my 2012 MacBook Air since… 2012. I just opened it up and checked it and it’s pristine. So I’m wondering what could have cause that for you

The problem is not the discoloration.
The problem was, that the bottom part of the hard shell, in combination with the upper part,
seem to deformated the mbp over the years, slowly but steadily.
I understand now, that if the bottom part appears (due to usage of mac, its weight, the pressure - typing, all uses) any kind of dent, that even your eyes cannot recognize,
then our aluminum body mbp,
has small resistance in staying in its original shape.
The 4 small 'feet' on the bottom of mbp, does not touch the flat face anymore.
The mbp is 'based'(touch) now, by his own aluminum body on the bottom!

So this is my awful experience with an 8 years usage of a hard shell case.
A screen lid that do not close correctly,
and a bottom part in my mbp that is almost inflated.

HARD SHELLS SECOND THOUGHTS

I think I cannot longer trust, hard shell makers.
Though I really like the concept of a clear hard shell for my mac.

Here is a photo, of my mbp, after eight years of hard shell enclosure. A bit dusty, but cannot be more clean anymore.
Believe me, I am very protective with my mbp all the time.
It seems that happened without even realizing it.
It deformated my mbp, and the screen lid cannot close anymore.
Not just a simple gap, but rather a big one!

I am surprised that I am the only one with such problems.
The bottom part of the shell, that I no longer have it as I nervously trashed it some time ago,
played a role, in not keeping in place the bottom of my mbp, I guess.
It seems to be a combination of
- bad materials
- many years of use
- I do not know what else, but surely it should be additional reasons.

I do not know if you keep your macs just a couple of years.
Then maybe everything it is ok.
But unfortunately this solution did not worked for me.

I wait to hear your thoughts on my misfortune.

I had my 2013 in a Speck hardshell for the full 8 years with no issues....

Didn't like the Speck that much as the little clips that held it on broke very early, but I used double-sided tape and it stayed on till right before I got my M1 Pro.

Pics? Curious about the black matte as that was the one I ordered, but ibenzer sent me the crystal black variant.

Does anyone know if TwelveSouth will be making either BookBook or Journal for 16” MBP 2021?

I love the BookBook I use for my iPad Pro w/ Smart Keyboard and want similar for my yet to arrive MBP.

The MBP will mostly live on a stand on my desk - often with the iPad plugged into it and a dock etc. - I want a case that I can leave on the MBP on the stand and just unplug and zip the case when I want to go or just fold the top down when not in use to keep it dust free.

The nearest alternative I found is:

Are you sure its not your battery thats causing the distortion to the case? Sure sounds like it... Google image search "swollen macbook pro battery"...

Yeah, I know what you mean.
I did not took my mbp to any repair service for a specific battery check.
Because I had not such specific sign.
Eight years after the purchase, and though I do not run on battery almost never,
when I need it, it seems to still have hours of time available.
And also, no external signs of anything on the metal case of mbp.
I thought of this battery possibility, but I cannot compose such a case.

Just got my 16” M1 pro today, arrived a day early. My 16” CushCase arrives tomorrow. Fortunately it fits in my old 15” cushcase (just), so that will protect it till the proper case arrives.

When I had a 13" 2020 MBP I used a TYTX leather case that was awesome. But they are not making anything for the 14" 2021. So I purchased a hard shell case cover. I have used them in the past and never had any issues with them. I ordered the one below on Nov. 13th and finally got it today. This is the first time I have used this brand but not much is being offered for the 14". It went on very smoothly, is a nice thick plastic and does not interfere with it closing. I won't use the screen protector or keyboard cover - just don't like them. I don't like a scratched case so I always put a case cover on of some type. So far I like it.

I also put it in a case for travel so I can carry it and my external devices. This one has proven to work well.

And if you didn't guess - I like pink. ;)

Just received my hard shell case from Amazon, it was ordered from Amazon UK, but shipped from China, overall the case is pretty well made, matte finish decent plastic, only criticism is the case doesn't cover back of computer, though I don't think it can be covered, as it will damage the computer when the screen opens. Here are some photos

On a lark. I bought the 13" size for my Macbook pro 14" max.

It fits. Mostly. The sides are a tight fit, and the top magnet does not close since the MacBook is long. But. Overall. Happy. Going to keep and use it. Very lovely (expensive) product.

I should note. I do slip it into an old SFBags sleeve (nice and thick soft material). I bought it YEARS ago for an old 15" MacBook I used. My MacBook pro in magic keyboard slips into the front pocket of the same bag so I get more that average protection IMO.

I think you are right about no cover possible for the back of the laptop, judging by the look of your photos. So many people here complaining about lack of protection for the back from various brands of hard covers, but it seems impossible to design one.

I just received the Incase 15/16-inch Classic Sleeve for my 16-inch M1 Max. It's a very tight fit. I am afraid that the zipper will scratch the corners of the laptop. I plan to return it and hope that Incase will soon have something specifically made for these laptops.

I have the Incase Slim Sleeve for my Intel 16" which is probably the same size as your Classic Sleeve, and it's too tight for my new M1 Pro 16" as well. Instead, I got the Native Union's Stow Lite Sleeve yesterday from my local Apple store, and it perfectly fits the new MacBook Pro.

Got the Mosiso crystal clear case from Amazon. Looks very good actually, was not expecting it to be that good. My idea was to use this cheaper Mosiso to protect the 16' MacbookPro (hopefully getting the laptop next week tuesday-wednesday) until some known brands like Incase will manufacture their cases with more quality materials, however this looks very nice and I think I will not need to change it right away and can use for some time, I like it!!!

yeah I saw that case online I wish that it came in purple or pink though I emailed them with no response. What is weird with amazon is that I see so many different cases from different venders yet all of the images look the same its like they are stealing them from each other not sure if its even the same photos or what

Thanks for the info. Is there much padding on this?
Any chance of a couple of quick pics of the inside/zip area with the MBP16 2021 in?

Just received this case. Very nice, fits perfectly and it really does have a nice rubberized feel to it which was exactly what I wanted.

You're right. All the Amazon cases are pure marketing--these "hard shell" cases are exactly the same coming from the same factory. They all leave the back corners exposed and the "frost" style clear ones all suffer fingerprint-gate. Just grab the cheapest one on Amazon regardless of brand--for now. Some beefier options might come online next year.

yeah like the company Teryeefi
the cases look exactly like the May Chen one I mean IDENTICAL..when I had my macbook pro 13 inch from 2018 I had MOSISO case and it was fine no issues..I prefer purple or pink since they are both my favorite colors but I guess every one of these sellers are stealing each others images and its all basically the same stuff

So I've been following posts here and searching online looking at options and ideas... If hard shell cases (at least as of right now) all have the back corners exposed would it damage the finish of a MacBook if I cut some vinyl decals to at least prevent scratches? Is there a special finish or something that will come off or get damaged because of the adhesive? I know it's not much of a solution for protecting the corners from dings and dents, but I figure I can buy a cheap case until a really good one comes out that covers the corners. Thoughts?
