Yeah, either the store got it wrong, made it up, or you did..

Speck says: this is just a nasty rumour. There's no recall at all.

I just got back from the apple store where they had told me speck had recalled their smart shell cases for the rMBP.

Does anyone have any information on this?

I picked up a Black Speck Satin case for my RMBP a few days ago at my local Apple Store. It fits great and it looks awesome! I was also thinking of picking up a clear one and just called the store...they are sold out! I hadn't heard about a recall though?

I live in ONTARIO CANADA where can I buy the BLACK SATIN SPECK SMARTSHELL CASE for rMBP!?

I was going to purchase online from Speck, but shipping costs A LOT and it's out of stock! (HOW LONG WILL IT BE OUT OF STOCK FOR? :( )

I know!
I looked everywhere and nobody carries it yet. I thought for sure Apple or BB/FS.

I've used a Satin Speck on several MBAs and I love them. I usually then put them in cheap memory foam sleeves off eBay (the kind with the apple symbol, I buy multiple colours like shirts, lol). The combo prevents dirt from getting between the Speck and scratching the aluminum, and the memory foam keeps the Speck from chipping and no longer staying on, which are the chief complaints on Amazon.

Except with the rMBP, I'm going to buy a more rugged sleeve. One that will accomodate the Speck-rMBP combo... any suggestions?

Its not too big, has hardish sides to protect the laptop, a spot for my iPad and sunglasses, and enough room for a couple of t-shirts and shorts for te gym. It really isn't much bigger than my neoprene dual space shoulder bag for my old 17" MBP.

Fond this retina case on eBay looks perfect for me. It's a cross between a hard shell and a sleeve. The reason I am so excited is that it give great bump protection and good grip.

I would find the bands that keep the computer in the case to be somewhat ugly and take away from the aesthetics of the computer--and the feel. Otherwise, not bad.

Speck

couple questions on Speck hardshell:
1. How often do you guys clean out the dust in your cases?
2. Since you're taking it on and off constantly, have you guys had any problems with the clip breaking or even scratching the macbook while doing it?
a. Would you say that would be something covered under Speck's warranty?

Just got mine over the weekend along with the Booq Mamba sleeve (hopefully that helps with the amount of debris accumulating in between.

The best shell/hard case for retina ? What would u recommend ?

I personally don't like the ones with ventilation slits on the bottom. Particles enter easy and scratch the aluminum.

On the other hand, the Speck gets hotter.

Why would you need to keep taking it off? As i don't see dust in mine! they fit tight so not much dust gonna get in there.

I've had the clear smartshell since they became available and I've only removed it once and that's only because I was considering putting on a Wrapsol skin. I did not see any dust build up under the case, but there was some on top of it. I really don't for see removing/reapplying it often, but even if I did it seems pretty sturdy that I would not worry about the clips.

Speck's has slits/vents on the sides... Exactly where the rMBP has vents, which to me makes more sense than the ones that have slits where there are no vents. Mine does not seem to get any hotter than it did without the case.

I think that is the reason for the complaints on amazon. People take them off to clean and they break, or it's not also in a sleeve when in transit which allows the small corner pieces to chip off as it bumps against things.

Since you have the same idea as what I've always done, additionally put the Speck in a sleeve, I've hardly ever taken them off once on and when I do, it's not dirty inside. The 3 Specks I've had, have all stayed intact. Mind you, these were MBAs. I'm hoping the same goes when I get one for my rMBP.

When I'm at home, I just use the Speck. I have no qualms putting my MBA down anywhere without worrying about damaging the aluminum. When I take it out of the house, it is further protected in a sleeve.

Obviously the company can't recommend that you use a sleeve too, but that's what I do, and it works for me. I'm not a fan of shields that are difficult to apply and with post-application imperfections like bubbles and wrinkles, that's the anal in me, lol. And I'm not a fan of any cases that add bulk like the eBay one above. I also don't like the clear Specks that show scratches easy. The satin ones are the best compromise for me. And again, those are my preferences, and maybe not others.

Will do, should be here in a couple of days.
These is also a question on the rear venting. I don't think this will be an issue for day to day quick hit use. If I were going to use it for long term, i would just unlatch the screen portion and its good to go.
My main concern on my expensive new toy is a broken screen. I have an Icover on my rMBP now and i alway worry about it getting dinged. Its like a new car, you park way away from others so you don't get dents.
But i'll let you know once I receive it.

Long time lurker, first post.

Incase has released their rMBP cases. Only on the online Apple Store so far.

Looks interesting, but showing 1-2 months wait. Also the pics are limited, but selecting 11" Air gives a better idea of what the case looks like from other angles.

appreciate the responses above. Was just curious about people's experience since this is first time using a hard case on a laptop. and was coming across conflicting discussions/experiences. wasn't sure if the benefits outweighed the pain in the ass to clean it. Thanks again.
