Best backpacks?

Hello,

I'll be going to university in the fall and am currently using a 15" MBPr.

Does anyone have recommendations for the best backpacks available? Something that is protective of the computer, has a good amount of room for textbooks and notes, and that is not too heavy is ideal.

I was thinking of a Herschel Supply Co. bag, but I'd like to hear what everyone has to say! :)

What have you guys been using?

I have this one right now, and I am very happy with it. I was looking for something with a rain cover because I commute on a motorcycle. Previously, I had this one, and its also very good.

Tom Bihn Brain Bag is great and has lots of room for a computer and books. Been using it for 2 years now and it has gotten me to class and around the world on trips.

I bought this bag a few months ago and could not be happier. When I ordered the bag, I put it in my shopping cart then left the website. A few minutes later I got an email giving me 20% off. I ended up paying a little bit over $80 for the bag. It is comfortable and has plenty of room for your stuff.

Thanks for the recommendations!

Are hard cases worth buying for a MacBook? I was looking at the Speck case and it seems pretty good from what I can tell.

I am sort of clumsy so I make sure to always have a hard case on my macbook pros. I got brave once and took it off and said "oh yeah ill be careful." Two weeks later I dropped it WHILE in a carrying bag and he corner of the screen still got dented. Accidents happen so I will never not use a hard case again.

As far as the Speck case goes, get the Moshi iglaze. It's so much better than the Speck and is worth the few extra dollars. Got mine on outfityours.com and found a coupon on google so it ended up being the same price as the Speck. Good luck!

Maybe someone has experienced the same tough choice that I'm trying to make and can help me out here :)

I have purchased a backpack, one with a padded 15" slot for my Macbook and am now trying to decide between either purchasing a hardshell case (most likely the Moshi iGlaze) or purchasing a padded sleeve with a zipper for further protection. Due to my commuting I think I would feel safer if the computer had a bit more protection, thus my looking into either the hardshell or the sleeve.

The sleeve may provide a bit more protection in terms of padding from dropping my backpack but the shell would prove effective against scratching and lighter knocks to the exterior. The sleeve may also be a bit of a nuisance in terms of taking it out, unzipping and all that, and may be a tighter squeeze in the backpack. But if it's better than the hardshell in this case than I would be happy to go with it.

Anyone have any advice or would care to share what they use on a daily basis?
Thanks :)

I think you should get what ever you need the most. If you feel like the hardshell is the way to go because it covers the macbook from scratches you should go for this one. If you feel like it should just be covered when it's in your backpack go for the sleeve. If you can't decide, why don't you use both ;)

I personally went for the sleeve solution. I want it to be protected on the go and i don't like the look and feel of the hardshell.

Laptop bags for travelling abroad

With my new business job I am required to go and visit clients and sometimes this means abroad!

I have just got a new mac book pro to take with me but i am worried about keeping it safe and secure. I want a decent laptop bag that I can fit other bits and pieces in too.

I have seen this Business 100 Laptop Bag, what types of laptop bags to people use when they are going away on a business trip?

I always use both when carrying my rMBP in my bookbag. The hardcase I mainly use for protection when I'm using it, as a sleeve will not provide protection when it's in use. The hardcase also protects it from dings and scratches.

By the way, the Moshi iGlaze is amazing! Best hardcase I ever used.

I got it a few months ago and it is by far the best bag I have ever had. It has a lot of protection and many compartments to store accessories in. It also is very durable and has a great lifetime warranty that they always honor. It also looks very nice and professional.

It's a little expensive on Amazon but I got mine on ebay for $45. There is one listed now on ebay brand new for $60.

For what we paid for this machines, extra protection just makes sense. Shell, sleeve, backpack. Better to have it all then to say, "Dang I should of..."

I'm a big packpack fan and have been using one of these for years. Just don't get the red and black one, everyone I've had, had stitching issues on the straps - where one of the straps would start to separate from the bag. The all black ones surprisingly are fine.

Another nice feature of these bags is a pocket inside where you can place your iPod and then plug your headphones into the strap.

Here is a pic of what I used to carry in mine:

I have a Herschel Little America backpack in black and I like it! Keeps my 15" rMBP safe and has a pretty decent amount of space for text books and such. It doesn't have a lot of little compartments but other than that its great!

Haha I ended up going with the Herschel Pop Quiz backpack, a friend of mine already had the Little America so I decided to go with the Pop Quiz. The laptop pouch seems to provide pretty great protection.

I loved this bag also, had one for two years till the zippers blew out. Now I am a North Face Surge owner, love it too. Both are good choices.

Man, I watched the youtube on the mamba pack, forgive me but I don't think its worth a c-note. Northface Backpacks are the way to go, construction & features even the zippers are hard core oversized. Best Pack for your back bar none.
