How often do you have to clean the rMBP when you put it in a hard shell case?

I'm deciding between just getting the sleeve or a hardshell + sleeve for my future Haswell rMBP.

The sleeve is nice but when the rMBP is out of the sleeve, it's vulnerable to scratches and dings. I have a tendency to bang my Macbook Pro on the side of the desk, even though I didn't mean to. Sometimes, I just forget to be careful with it. This is where the hard shell would help.

But, I've been reading that you have to clean it once every two weeks or it may get scratches from the dirt trapped inside. Is this true?

They dont scratch, especially the Speck one. My old unibody Pro had the Speck case on it from day one. Lasted me almost 4 years. Thing was mint when I sold it.

I never took it off to clean it. Only for service twice.

That's good to know, thanks! I was looking at the Speck satin case and that's the only worry I had. I mean I do clean my Mac...only it's more like once every year :)

So I was actually looking at a small bag to carry my iPad and/or Surface Pro (for work crap) and picked up the Incase Pathway Field Bag. It's a bit bigger than I wanted (it's meant for a 13" MBP), but it looked nice and B&H has it for $100 less than the MSRP! (making it only $69) So I dropped by B&H tonight and picked it up. When I got home, on a whim I tried placing my rMBP in it. It fits perfectly!! This bag is pretty nice inside too. I may also be able to occasionally throw in my 5DII w/ a pancake lens on it for some casual street shooting. We'll see. Anyway, I'm very happy so far.

Strange, My first unibody MacBook Pro was ruined by a speck case. It made very deep scratches in the laptop. I swore I would never use a hardcase anymore. Now I just use a jolioriginals sleeve and put that in the laptop compartiment of my Chrome bag. Works like a charm.

personally i want the mac hook case by concrete cases but they are out of stock atm, but if you guys think you might buy one, sign up to be kept informed about new stock, if more people do this it might encourage them to hurry up

super strong frame and carabiners - im sick of those bags that break at the strap

I'm a backpack guy myself; it's just too practical not to use.

I've been through quite a few and have yet to find one I really loved. I've had Crumpler, BBP, Timbuktu, and Nike bags and wasn't thrilled with most of them.

Currently using the Herschel Pop Quiz and it's doing well. The design isn't outstanding but it's functional and practical. Things I look for that this has:

- Passing design
- Comfortable on the back when loaded
- Long lasting craftsmanship (Seems to be doing well so far after about 2 years I believe)
- Strong zippers
- Zippers easily accessible and easily to move (the zippers here are easy enough to get to and zip up, but there is still the benefit of a small lip over the zip line to move liquid down the backpack and also for theft prevention)
- Padded laptop compartment: very soft, thick (doesn't mean I feel safe throwing my bag around though)
- One single large compartment for books, binders or clothes/shoes for trips
- A few smaller pockets for accessories. I hate having a gazillion pockets - doesn't seem practical to me to have a pocket for every pencil and paper clip you carry around.
- Doesn't have 20 unnecessary straps all over it
- Top handle
- A pleathery bottom since cotton material would be bad for contacting all the surfaces we set out bags on.

Improvements:
- One or two bottle pockets on the sides would be nice

Can anyone recommend a backpack that can fit:
13" macbook air
BIG jam box
ipad or ipad mini
and smaller accessories like cords and stuff?

Have you ever considered a STM backpack? This one seems to check everything on your list. http://www.stmbags.com/catalog/laptop-backpacks/revolution-medium-laptop-backpack/

I have the previous generation (and the smaller model as I have a 13in laptop). It has held up for 4 plus years now, great construction. I would recommend it if you are in the market for a new backpack

Whats the protection like inside the bag? any padding?

I liked the look of this bag but was worried about my laptop getting dented if dropped and the bag lands on the side. Also, are there any compartments inside?

"leather in combination with the padded suede-lined interior" - there is a steel frame all the way around it, so the most vulnerable bit would be if the bag landed flat on a rock or something, idk..

"it features two pockets on the inside with space for your phone, other accessories and a pouch for your mouse or adapter." - basically an ipad sized pocket, and a iphone sized pocket

i don't actually have the bag, it's out of stock atm, that's just what the website says

FREITAG Sleeves

In my opinion the sleeves from Swiss company FREITAG are the best sleeves for any Notebook, but especially in combination with a Macbook they are great. I dont know if FREITAG has been mentioned here already but I love this company. You see, every sleeve is unique since its cut out of old truck tarpaulins. Hence they are also very stable and a good protection. The only negative point is that FREITAG products are very expensive, but in my opinion this is ok, because you get a very nicely designed product, its unique, and I just know i wont change my notebook sleeve in the next 10-15 years.

Hi there,

So, what's the common choice here, for a sleeve or a case? Or the best choice ?
Money isn't a factor (company is paying ...), quality and look is.
I have a Tucano sleeve for my current MBP but it doesn't look really nice and the corners wore down in about a year. So, not this :)

I've just bought one of the newly released rMBPs. I just wanted to check, is there any change in the form factor? i.e. Will current cases/sleeves fit it ok or do we need to wait for new ones to be released?

There is a very slight change in the size of the 13" sleeve, it is very minimally slimmer now (0.04" or 1mm).

It should not affect most sleeves and covers (it doesn't affect our sleeves), but I suppose the hardshell cases will need an update.

Sorry I should have said I'm talking about the 15".

I was looking at the speck shell, so assume I'm best to wait?

The 15" has no apparent dimension changes, but it will be of course safer to wait with a hardshell.

I understand there is no change in microphone positioning as there was in the recent MB Airs, because the Pro line has had dual microphone for some time already.

Does anyone have a Samsonite Airglow sleeve for their 15" rMBP?

Just bought one for my upcoming Haswell rMBP (arriving Tuesday!). Just wanted to hear what you guys thought :) Love the silky smooth fleece on the inside.

Was thinking of getting a skin case for my MacBook Pro Haswell, but want a gel skin as I hear the hard plastic ones will scratch the aluminium over time. Are these available? Any recommendations?

Thanks.
