Thoughts?

I bought an esme 15" off Amazon for $5 shipped. I'd give it 6/10 for classiness but 9/10 for function and durability especially at that sale price. It has a side pocket too for a naked iPad, or iPad mini in a case (or any smartphone/mini tab for that matter).

I only use it when it's not in my Brenthaven briefcase. The Speck shell has lasted well.

Hard case to prevent crushing in Thule (or any) backpack

Hi all, so I have and LOVE this Thule backpack but have a question (see it here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/H6666LL/A/thule-crossover-backpack?fnode=50&page=0

Am I the only crazy one not happy with using a sleeve for crush prevention? Maybe I am paranoid but a backpack full of books or something with decent weight, with a laptop snug on your back, and this is a lot of downward pressure pushing the bag up against your back, and compressing the laptop.

Add that the rMBP seems to rest on the glass, not the aluminum frame, when closed, and it still has me concerned.

All I see a snug leather or cloth sleeve doing is preventing smashing/crashing/dropping (which is great, mind you) but not from the computer itself being put under "squishing/ crushing/ compressing" pressure.

The hard shell cases also seem to let the laptop close on itself, and don't have extra space so as to create a "bubble" and thereby absorb crushing pressure.

Is there a case that is the same "idea" as a pelican case, but sleek and minimal thickness? Like an aluminum case with foam inside that the rMBP can slip into? Then the aluminum case doesn't compress.

Is this protection necessary or am I being a wimp because I paid so much and now I'm a scaredy cat....? Thanks!

Hopefully it's taking so much time because they plan on upgrading/re-designing more than just a few parts.

But knowing Apple, that probably won't happen.

I don't think a sleeve is normally designed for crush protection. It's just meant to protect the aluminum shell from superficial damage.
A well padded section dedicated for laptops in a backpack or briefcase does that job.

And if you had several heavy textbooks in that bag, it would probably be a good idea to keep that bag upright when you put it down.

What I don't like is when companies advertise a sleeve or case for MBP AND rMBP. They are clearly different sizes and the rMBP would swim in it and more likely suffer damage than one that is specifically made for rMBP ie; snug around it.

Thanks, yes the rMBP does swim around, and setting vertical on the ground I'm not super excited about the padding but there is padding. The main fear is while wearing and riding a motorcycle, with straps held tight, or on a plane sliding it under the seat. I do try to set down vertical or with laptop side up. But still, shouldn't there be an extremely crush proof sleeve that allows zero pressure on the computer? I would pay $100+ for one

I´m a fan of Incase´s neoprene sleeves, and have had them for all my Apple products, now I have ordered one for my new retina MacBook Pro! :)
Getting them from eBay is close to half the price they got here in Norway, so Its on the way now.

I just want a simple leather satchel-type bag. With a clean flap without a bunch of buckles or belts or Taylor Swift

Does anyone have experience with these sorts of cases http://www.amazon.co.uk/GMYLE-Premi...id=1379941543&sr=8-33&keywords=retina+15+case
Is the machine likely to overheat?

I've had a normal matt hard case on my previous machine and it was fine, but I want to treat this machine with absolute perfection and I like the idea of the protection around the bottom of the machine (wrist guard). I'm a bit put off by having the straps at the top corners of the screen however.

For the snap-on case, is the Speck one still the best to buy?

I had the KUZY one and went thru 3 of them. Complete junk. They kept breaking apart within days.

I have this case, and it does heat up above normal, however it has not been and issue for me at all not nearly as bad as you would think.. The bigger issue is the strap the holds the screen, This will take some time for you to get use to because it covers the corner where you would MAX your application. Love the case and protection it gives. By the way it give (my case) great water spill protection. I prefer this to a snap on plastic case with offers much less bump protection. YMMV as we all say.

I have a CaseCrown that is very similar. Overheating has not been an issue; however, if I put the MBP to sleep, I keep the lid open. Otherwise, when the system wakes for maintenance, the vents are blocked, and it does overheat. (My MBP never leaves my desk, so keeping the lid open isn't a big deal.)

Another poster mentioned the straps at the top of the screen. They do not bother me, but I never maximize app windows, except for videos.

Verdi,

Does the flap bother you? I think it would bother me, but I have no actual experience with it to have an informed opinion.

The flap doesn't bother me, but I almost never have the MBP on my lap. It's on a desk with an external keyboard. My flap stays down, so even if it were on my lap, it wouldn't really get in the way.

I've been using a Speck case since my first 15" then again on my 17" and now again on my 15" rMBP. Could not be happier with them. This new one seems so small compared to the case on that 17". Helps keep the computer free from scratches and gives a bit of piece of mind when putting into a zippered pouch so that the aluminum does not get dinged up.

How often do you have to clean the rMBP when you put it in a hard shell case?

I'm deciding between just getting the sleeve or a hardshell + sleeve for my future Haswell rMBP.

The sleeve is nice but when the rMBP is out of the sleeve, it's vulnerable to scratches and dings. I have a tendency to bang my Macbook Pro on the side of the desk, even though I didn't mean to. Sometimes, I just forget to be careful with it. This is where the hard shell would help.

But, I've been reading that you have to clean it once every two weeks or it may get scratches from the dirt trapped inside. Is this true?
