If you're looking for a bulletproof sleeve that you can carry on its own or throw into a messenger bag check out chromes offerings. Great padding and doesn't add a lot of bulk.

This looks promising. I just got a 15" rMBP and am looking for a sleeve that's as protective as possible, but also lightweight.

Do you have the Chrome one? Does it fit the rMBP tightly or is there a lot of extra space? According to the site, it looks like it isn't specific to MacBooks but just any 13/15 laptop. Also how much does it weigh – the site doesn't say?

Freitag are retiring their line of Macbook Pro sleeves. It appears there are about 43 of them left online now, at $150 apiece. They look nice, but as the company states itself, they are not designed explicitly for the Retina display models, and the thinner profile means they won't fit as well. I won't spend $150 on something that isn't going to fit as well.

The new model - the Sleeve for Ultrabook - which is designed to fit the MB with Retina display AND other 15 inch computers is even more expensive at $167. It closes with a flap instead of a zipper, so that lets it out for me. Plus none of these newer models that are available online have any of the graphic flair of their older counterparts. Too bad. That was one of the unique drawing points of the line.

Thanks for the info. I used to have a Freitag messenger bag that was the most durable thing in the world. I still have a wallet made with tyvek that has lasted me in nearly 15 years.

It's a shame they Freiteg isn't lowering the price! I would seriously buy one of the ultra thin ones if they were like <$100...

Now that I fave had a bit more hands-on experience with this sleeve I can say that I'm quite pleased with it.

At first, I thought it was a bit big, but the extended corners help a lot with shock absorption.

The magnets are easy enough to disengage but are strong enough to hold the laptop in securely; laptop won't fall out if turned upside down.

The fit is phenomenal and despite being thin, it is quite protective.

I just schlep this and my rMBP into one of these bad boys -

and my MacBook is completely protected from anything life has to throw at it!

I'm a happy camper.

So do ANY of the hard-shells NOT cover the left-side microphone holes on the late 2013 MacBook Pro with Retina 15" ?

I have the sleeve and they make them with the MacBooks in mind. There's barely any wiggle room in the sleeve, if i had to guess id say its about 1/2 a lb if that, sorry i don't have a small enough scale to get an accurate weight. I attached some pictures of my 15 rmbp inside so you can get an idea.

Hi,

This is quite a big thread so...

I'm looking for a sleeve for my rMBP 15". It will go in a carry satchel when I'm out and about, but I wanted 'extra' protection while it is inside the satchel because I'm like that :D

I was looking at something like the Booq Viper Sleeve as I liked how it didn't use zips (I just don't trust my mac scraping off them even if it physically can't scratch it! Is this the best I could get in this type of sleeve, or does anyone know of any better?

Thanks!

Will re-iterate here, hoping for something similar or I'll just have to plop for that one!

With the slimmer chassis design on the late 2013 (most current model) 13" rMBP, will the current Speck cases seen on their website and Amazon fit? Or will they be too big?

I have the exact same question, wonder if my Speck case in my current 13" rMBP (75mm thick) would work (don't want a loose fit) with the Haswell 13" rMBP (71mm thick); apparently Speck have not launch yet a case for it.

Does anyone know if this will fit well for my Macbook Pro 15" Retina (Late 2013)?

Anyone have any experiences with the Incase sleeves?

In terms of Moshi vs Speck, does anyone have experience with a hard case that won't scratch?
Also any recommendations for a sleeve that will fit a 15" rMBP that has a shell?

UPDATE: Just received the Moshi iGlaze for my 13 inch. Fits like a glove, a tad loose on the lower section, but not too bad. None of the ports are blocked, very nice finish.
Translucent cover shows the original unibody color and apple logo nicely. Moshi logo on edge of upper protector so you're reminded of the manufacturer every time you look at your rMBP. Expensive at $60, but is insignificant considering the mid $2K price tag. Overall I am satisfied with the purchase.

I own a Speck smartshell and a neoprene Incase sleeve. It's tight but it fits (15" btw).

I am really not sure. I bought one exactly like this but specially made for the rMBP and it fits perfectly. Really like it. But that one does not specify that it is for the rMBP so it will probably feel loose. E-mail Apple about this and they will tell you if it's the right one or not.

Btw, I bought mine 1 year ago on a physical Apple Store in London.

Thanks! I actually meant which case would not scratch a MBP. I had a speck and something got between it and the computer and left a nice scratch. I would like the protection but am wary of carving up a brand new machine.

I recently purchased two Spec cases from amazon and they have the cut outs for the two microphone holes on the left side of my 13" macbook retina.

I am not familiar with older macs, but did last year's mac also have the two microphone holes on the left side?

If last year's model did not have the microphone holes on the left, then the cases I received were designed for the newest 13" macbook retina.

The 13" cMBP had a microphone hole above the keyboard on the opposite side from the power button. Where the microphone holes are now is about where the SD card slot is on the old models. Not sure about last year's rMBP.

I bought a 15" rMBP at the local Apple Store today - poor salesperson and I needed to try three blue, see-through Speck cases before one fit (the third, obviously). Is there any risk of scratching at all with the Specks? It was all they had in store, and spending lots on my first Macbook (Pro), I just went with it... Should I have researched more?
