I've used felt sleeves on my gadgets before. They protect well against scratches and light bumps, and their "non-toxic" properties are nice too. I'm just not a fan of the pilling. ;)

(Half-joking, but be warned: they don't stay so slick-looking for very long.)

I wanted to say the same thing. I have no idea why people would use it. In a short period of time, it starts to look like a worn out old-man's wool sweater. But I may be wrong, I've never seen the case in person to really know.

Speck cases fit late 2013 "13 rMBP?

With the slimmer chassis design on the late 2013 (most current model) 13" rMBP, will the current Speck cases seen on their website and Amazon fit? Or will they be too big?

I bought a high quality black, zip up sleeve for my 15" rMBP thats made by Samsonite, cost me. $50.00 at Macys on sale. Its made of a neoprene material and has silkscreened rubber dots on the out side for a good grip. It fits my Mac like a glove and I have a lot of confidence in it protecting my valuable computer.

Freitag are retiring their line of Macbook Pro sleeves. It appears there are about 43 of them left online now, at $150 apiece. They look nice, but as the company states itself, they are not designed explicitly for the Retina display models, and the thinner profile means they won't fit as well. I won't spend $150 on something that isn't going to fit as well.

The new model - the Sleeve for Ultrabook - which is designed to fit the MB with Retina display AND other 15 inch computers is even more expensive at $167. It closes with a flap instead of a zipper, so that lets it out for me. Plus none of these newer models that are available online have any of the graphic flair of their older counterparts. Too bad. That was one of the unique drawing points of the line.

In my opinion the sleeves from Swiss company FREITAG are the best sleeves for any Notebook, but especially in combination with a Macbook they are great. I dont know if FREITAG has been mentioned here already but I love this company. You see, every sleeve is unique since its cut out of old truck tarpaulins. Hence they are also very stable and a good protection. The only negative point is that FREITAG products are very expensive, but in my opinion this is ok, because you get a very nicely designed product, its unique, and I just know i wont change my notebook sleeve in the next 10-15 years.

Just bought this one from Booq:

http://www.booqbags.com/us/shoulder-bags/viper-courier/VCR13-GRY

Used the code "AR13" and got free shipping and $10 off.

it looks very nice! :) perhaps you could leave some thoughts on it when you receive and use it?

that is a really nice bag. think you could give some impressions on it once you get it? :)

Yup! It's not like the opening has an extra elastic band or anything, so it won't tightly hug in that end. However, the rest of the fit is just about perfectly fitted to the 15" rMBP. For example, I can't shake the sleeve loose at all from holding the macbook.

Here's how it looks:

what sleeve is that? is there one for 13" rMBP?

Retina Macbook Pro Bags, Sleeves, and Cases Thread

Can anyone recommend a backpack for a new 13" rMBP? Preferably I want a dedicated padded slot for the MB, and room for the power cable, network cable and a lunchbox (whether squarish or more flat rectangular). I cycle to work so would want a waterproof cover for the bag, either built-in or I'll get one afterwards.

I'd even go for a 15" bag if that gave me some extra room.

I just got this today from Amazon. This is after I've tried the incase neosprene sleeve and it's not the right size (Incase have no plans to make any new cases for the rMBP; none for the previous rMBP. My last product with them fitted my mid-2009 MBP). This one fits perfectly. It's PU leather (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicast_leather) but it feels very nice. The fit is snugly, designed for the MBA and the rMBP. Here are 2 pictures I took. It has a pocket slot in the back for papers but it also fits my iPad 3 retina along with the rMBP (and also a business card slot just under the cover flap), but I plan to just store my rMBP in it, as you see in the picture.

I got the black version. The flap closes magnetically.

I don't think Incase has redesigned for the rMBP, but I've heard nice things about their backpacks. They fit the cMBP, but it's probably not a huge deal if you get a sleeve that fits snugly.

Personally I use a Jansport Odessey for college. It's not the most sleek, but it works well to carry my laptop and books to class and certainly has room for other items. I've used a sleeve with both of my 13" MBPs because it fits up to a 15" or so. It also comes with a chest strap and waist belt which could be useful while riding a bike.

Incase makes a case for the 15" retina MacBook Pro which is only sold in Apple stores. I just got one yesterday. It's got an separate sleeve for an iPad and is overall pretty slim and small.

Hi,

This is quite a big thread so...

I'm looking for a sleeve for my rMBP 15". It will go in a carry satchel when I'm out and about, but I wanted 'extra' protection while it is inside the satchel because I'm like that :D

I was looking at something like the Booq Viper Sleeve as I liked how it didn't use zips (I just don't trust my mac scraping off them even if it physically can't scratch it! Is this the best I could get in this type of sleeve, or does anyone know of any better?

Thanks!

It will not fit it. I use my MacBook Pro just as it is with a thin keyboard cover but no hard shell.

It's a good item.

I want a sleeve only because I usually just need to carry my laptop, and if I do need it in a backpack or messenger bag, I can fit it in there. That is why I want to get a sleeve that fits snugly. That incase is good if you plan to carry it as a messenger bag and not much of anything else.

This backpack from stm might work well for your needs. http://www.stmbags.com/catalog/laptop-bags/revolution-small-laptop-backpack/ There is a large backpack available for 15" laptops as well. I was looking at one for my new rmbp 15. A local computer store near where I live had the 13" backpack on sale for $40, which was a steal considering original price was $100. I checked it out, great padding and looked like good build quality, rain guard, etc... Lots of features I liked, unfortunately they didn't have the larger size model so I'm still looking around or considering buying one online.

FYI
The InCase Hammered Hardshell case covers the new left-side microphone holes on the 15" late 2013 MacBook Pro with Retina display.

Also, doesn't say "Retina" on the Apple box anymore. I guess that's not necessary since it's the only 15" they sell.

Incase makes hardshell's as well. Don't know if they're any good. I need to find a new one now too.

The keyboard cover is great. It doesn't seem to block any sound coming from the 13" MBP. It's thin, so there isn't any sound muffling. One annoying thing about it is the edges are "harder" to type. If you hit the center of the keys, it's fine, otherwise, the vertical part of the keyboard cover makes typing slightly more difficult. Helps small dirt from getting under the keys.

The palmguard is stupid. The edge of the palmguard will be the best place for dirt and grim to get stuck. Just rest your palm on the MBP already, clean it with rubbing alcohol to get rid of bacteria.

The screen protector is just a big question mark. What does it really do? Unless you plan to touch your screen frequently or have stuff dropping on your screen, then it would make sense. It's not even a privacy protector. I use my MBP and have no problem with glare in the sunlight. It may have made sense on earlier MBP but now glares are not a problem anymore.

Good point regarding the palm guard. Over years of use the palm rest typically gets worn out on other laptops, and scuff marks are left behind. This is my first time purchasing a macbook so am wondering if there are similar wear issues.

Screen protector can protect against fingerprints, and possible damage to the screen. But I'm thinking that is overkill, plus you lose some of the glorious retina display

Late 2013? How does it fit?

On it's way from Amazon. I will post after it arrives.

An earlier post mentioned it fitting loose on the lower shell. It's better then one poster who's Speck was so tight and ill fitting it left scratch marks on his mbookpro.
