hey guess, just brought the speck satin case, ive just noticed the two corners of the screen do not shut properly! I then discovered that it was because the top shell was so tight it was bowing the screen slightly, it was ridiculously hard to get of. In fact I almost thought I wouldnt be able to! Its left a few slight marks on my laptop which only arrived 2 days ago! pissed!

Anyways should I swap it for another one or is this just how they are?

Ouch! I just ordered one for mine 2 days ago off Amazon. Wish I seen this first. I'll be sending mine back now, not even going to bother opening it. That is completly unacceptable.

Ahh sorry Mr Mystery, maybe I was unlucky! Very annoying as i really want a hardshell for it.

Ive heard bad things about the moshi iGlaze and speck, any recommendation?

Just want a decent black/clear hardshell.

Looks like your top shell is installed wrong. Aren't the cut outs supposed to be aligned wtih the ports?

Well... that's embarrassing. Good eye though. Took it off and flipped it around without any trouble or marks (heart goes out to that guy with the tight fitting speck case). Funny that it can fit both ways, but it's much better with the center clip in the front than in the rear.

Incase makes hardshell's as well. Don't know if they're any good. I need to find a new one now too.

Tough decision over getting the translucent vs the black case. The micro-clips seem to be fine and none have broken or scratched the aluminum body. This is my first Moshi case, so I couldn't tell you if the clips are better than the previous versions. Just been toting it around the house, but the corners are not cracked. As before, the fitment is perfect... even with the skin. Maybe I just got lucky? Then again, I am pretty careful with it.

Another question for ya....does the Moshi hardcase interfere with the skin leaving a mark or eventually causing the skin to peel off? Ordered the matte BSE for now.

Just recently purchased a black rubberized hard case off of ebay for my new 13' rMBP (late 2013) a few days ago. ONLY$13 Comes with keyboard cover and screen protector. Fast shipping, received it in 3 days shipped form NYC to Mississippi. The quality of it is decent and it snaps on perfectly with nothing loose, although the back/bottom corners are exposed due to the cut of the bottom piece because it might've interfered with the top piece when close/open but the top piece sort of protects it. You can look at the pictures on the ebay ad to see what I mean. I didn't mind spending $13 on it not knowing if it fits or not, but it'll turned out great! Not a bad investment to keep your macbook protected until Moshi or other companies comes out with a higher quality case that fits perfectly with the new rMBP dimensions.

Another question for ya....does the Moshi hardcase interfere with the skin leaving a mark or eventually causing the skin to peel off? Ordered the matte BSE for now.

There is only a tiny mark on one of the thin strips of skins used to protect the side of the Macbook which easily could have been avoided. When I initially installed the bottom shell, I secured the two micro-clips in the rear and then tried to gently push the shell onto the bottom of the laptop. One of the micro-clips, on the side and near the front, caught part of the side skin and made a mark on it. After rubbing the mark on the skin, the blemish mostly went away and is less noticeable.

What I should have done: After securing the bottom rear clips, you should try and "wrap" the bottom shell around the bottom of the laptop and make sure that the clips don't snag the skins on the sides. I've taken both shells off, for photos and for proper re-installation, and the skins do not try and stick to either part of the case. Other than the small blemish on the side skin, which is covered by the shell, there are no other marks. I can always remove the blemished side skin strip and install another one but that seems like overkill at this point. The Macbook itself is still flawless.

I'd rather leave the shell off of course, but all it takes is one little accidental bump and now you've got a dent in your shiny new laptop. I'm careful but I'd rather not risk it. This little beast is going to be with me for awhile...

I've done a bit of snooping around and came across these:

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/VATUKA-Macbo...s&hash=item4ab79689d8&_uhb=1&autorefresh=true

English language info is scarce, but I found a decent video review for one and the reviewer really dug it.

They check a lot of boxes for me: very slim profile, more rigid than neoprene, what looks like better than average edge protection due to the "protruding" zipper design, nice YKK zippers, and the (apparent) ability to leave the case on and still have access to the ports on the side.

And while it's a far cry from the high-class looks of some of the hand-crafted leather MBP sleeves I've come across, I kinda dig the "Korea does Swedish" vibe of the design. In any case, I've seen much, much uglier...

Edit: Also considering the Crumpler Fug, although the open side makes me a bit paranoid...

Received my Moshi iGlaze for the 13-inch rMBP ordered from Apple.com. The hard shell fits quite well, it is a bit loose in the trackpad area (bottom shell) other than that it does the job. Ordered the translucent color and I really do like the material/quality used versus Speck's hard shell cases.

I just got this today from Amazon. This is after I've tried the incase neosprene sleeve and it's not the right size (Incase have no plans to make any new cases for the rMBP; none for the previous rMBP. My last product with them fitted my mid-2009 MBP). This one fits perfectly. It's PU leather (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicast_leather) but it feels very nice. The fit is snugly, designed for the MBA and the rMBP. Here are 2 pictures I took. It has a pocket slot in the back for papers but it also fits my iPad 3 retina along with the rMBP (and also a business card slot just under the cover flap), but I plan to just store my rMBP in it, as you see in the picture.

I got the black version. The flap closes magnetically. One little annoyance is that snugg logo that is in the way when I slide my rMBP in. It may or may not scratch the notebook, but I plan to remove it.

Great find! Is there an equivalent for the 15 inch model?

I went with this Vatuka rMBP case in the end. I'll try to post some pics when it arrives.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VATUKA-Macbook-Pro-Retina-15-4-3D-CUBE-sleeve-Anti-shock-Made-in-Korea-/320987240107?pt=US_Laptop_Cases_Bags&hash=item4abc5496ab

Both of the envelope-style sleeves above look great, but I decided that being able to use my MBP while in the case and still have access to its ports was an important feature for me--I can be less precious about where I put it down, and it's a bit more convenient for traveling as well.

Came to $50 shipped--not cheap--but they have a good reputation in terms of build quality. (As a rule of thumb, manufacturers don't tend to put YKK zippers on junky products.)

It looks like it is blocking all the air vents, both coming in and going out. I hope you don't plan to use it with the case on.

This goes the same for the rubberized case posted earlier on this page. The air vent on the left and right that takes in air is completely blocked.

Yes, I guess that's normal for the Moshi iGlaze. I tried 4 different iGlaze cases for my 15" Retina and all had that same issue. It annoyed me so I returned it.

The floor of the case (which is memory foam covered by a thick mesh) is meant to promote air flow--at least according to the sales literature. And with the case open I do see quite a bit of space between the vents/sides of the laptop and the outer lip/zipper. (The case in the pics is for a cMBP--the rMBP version will be a bit shallower.)

In any case (no pun intended), I would use it in its sleeve primarily when I'm out in the world and on battery power, so not for anything particularly taxing on the CPU or GPU. You raise a valid concern, though--I hope it's as well-engineered as I think it is.

I considered those Snugg cases too--they look pretty great for the price.

My new backpacks built-in neoprene sleeve with velcro strap has prevented me from buying a case. No need. But I'm thinking about buying a simple sleeve for instances where I need to transport the bag. SFBags suede jacket sleeve looks good.

This looks great. Any more reviews? How is the real product?

I am looking for a leather sleeve but they seem more scarce in the 15 retina

Yes, read the reviews at the bottom, there are a bunch specifically for this case. People love it!

Only downside is it takes around 3 weeks to arrive, since it is handmade in China.

Here is another case for the retina from the same shop

I've used felt sleeves on my gadgets before. They protect well against scratches and light bumps, and their "non-toxic" properties are nice too. I'm just not a fan of the pilling. ;)

(Half-joking, but be warned: they don't stay so slick-looking for very long.)

For $16 shipped, there are a tiny amount of imperfections, but I am satisfied.

Will provide updates along the way.
