OP, I do understand your disappointment, having only 2 ports on "Pro" device is indeed lame.

But you should have really researched the product before you bought it, then you would know its limitations.
My 2020 MacBook Pro has only 2 ports and it works great for me.

I may be done with Apple. I purchased a $5500 MacBook Pro for me 8 months ago in addition to over $10k of Apple products for my business over recent years.

My wife needed a new laptop so I bought her a 13” M2 MacBook Pro with 32 Gig Ram and 1 Terabyte storage. I waited weeks to give it to her for xmas….18 days later (4 days past return option). When I finally helped her set it up, I saw it had one USB C port only…ONE! No HDMI, not one other single port. I’ve spent hundreds with expansion devices, extensions, Apple keyboard and magic mouse so she could actually use it. But it’s a laptop…so when we travel with it, we have to bring a bag worth of junk to get it to work in the real world…not really portable unless just cruising the web…she’s supposed to be abke to work on it…MS Office, images…

I feel so bad for her that I didn’t stop to think to ask about ports…right? At least 2 with an HDMI? Really Apple, or should I say Microsoft? It’s ridiculous and we’ll have to live with it.
You should have done your research. I have a model with 2 ports as well and it works fine for me.

Yes, it's kinda of a joke. Luckly there is a 14" and a 16" MacBook Pro. It's why I never bought the M1 13" MBP and the 13" MBA. I only upgraded when the 16" M1 Max MacBook Pro launched as it was finally a proper laptop by Apple.

Petey, I think you're a boiled potato! One of those disappointing potatoes that didn't come with salt or butter, and just a single chive! I mean, you'd think a freaking boiled potato would come with a sprinkle of chives at least! And damn it, when I travel I want to make mashed potatoes, but carrying the masher and the pot is just so bulky! I'm done with you.

Just for anyone actually looking for solutions, get a stay/go USB C hub. No need for a whole bag of anything. I’m no fan of dongles but this one checks a bunch of boxes.

For someone who says his time might be valuable, id argue it is more valuable to read through Apple’s product pages to avoid such expensive embarrassment than rushing out, isn’t it? Yes, we can’t cover everything, but a line must be drawn somewhere.
Next time, sit down and read through basic info a bit before making expensive purchases. At least MacBook resale value is quite high, compared with the PC counterparts.

That's completely on you. You failed to do any research and bought the wrong product, then on top of that you dilly-dallied and chose not to set it up past the return date.
Also, I doubt this is even true because apple launches an extended returns program during the holiday which allows you to return devices until the January (then again, maybe they bought from Costco or something but most places do this).

Isn’t it like… Literally written on the box that it’s only got two thunderbolt ports?
Imagine bragging that you can dump thousands on a computer without even reading the specs.
Also, that MacBook Pro does not have 32 GB of RAM… because the standard M2 maxes out at 24 GB.

This right here.

I don't buy this story at all.
I don’t buy it either.
The 13” clearly had PRO in its name: so it should have a Pro experience with ports to match.

Apple indeed named it incorrectly, and I feel bad for the OP who made the very understandable assumption that the 13”

“PRO”

would have a similar experience to the 14” and 16” Pro laptops.

Y’all be nice.
the OP says they bought a one TB SSD M2 MBP… which is only available as a BTO option.
they also say it has 32 GB of RAM… Which doesn’t exist.
I don’t believe somebody knows how to use the build to order options but doesn’t know that a cheeper computer with a completely different design might have different ports.

I got horribly confused with this for a second—"you mean a 14", right?"—then I remembered they still sell a 13" with a Touch Bar.

my man, a genuine, good faith question out of sheer curiosity—why did you go for the 13"? I've been nothing but satisfied with my 14". was it the notch that in all reality does nothing because it's sat in the center of the menu bar? was it a price factor? a time factor (since the M2 14"/16" were released this year)? I'm devilishly curious and confused here.

edit: everyone is pointing out factual mistakes in the OP…I smell a troll. I do wonder if there will be any responses here, and I'm laughing at myself for falling for it. I did about as much research as OP allegedly did! 🤣

I'm kinda surprised the 13-inch Pro still exists (especially in its current form) considering feature overlap with the largely superior M2 Air. It seems like now Apple has an opportunity to further reduce it's already beautifully concise computer lineup. So yeah, there's a reasonable thermal envelop and throttling argument in favor of the 13-inch Pro, and the battery life is better on the Pro, but for my money I'd rather have the Air, which compared to the Pro:

- Has a larger, better screen
- Has a MagSafe charger (in addition to two combination thunderbolt/USB-C ports, meaning that while charging you have two free peripheral ports, of particular interest to the OP)
- Weighs a little less
- Has a higher-resolution webcam
- LACKS a Touch Bar

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the M2 Pro has exactly the same body as the last Intel 13-inch Pro. My guess is that the 13-inch Pro was a particularly popular Apple Laptop option in its day, and there is still a huge stock of old shells, out of which Apple is still squeezing value. Or perhaps there is something about the momentum of the manufacturing process that makes it cost-advantageous for Apple to bang out new copies of old shell designs.

Further consider that Apple is still selling the old M1 Air (which makes use of the older Intel Air body) and that for both new M1 and M2 laptop releases Apple has made models with older bodies available first (with exception of the M2 Air release, during which Apple was still selling the same older-bodied M1 Air). Maybe it's easier to produce a stock of computers using the older bodies, so the old-bodied Apple Silicon machines have show up first. Maybe there's a marketing reason to release (presumably less exciting) older forms first.

L&G, just a run & gun rant...
1677087717956.png

Nothing wrong with the 13" models as long they match your needs. If you need more performance & ports the 14"/16" models await...

Hopefully Apple with offer a larger Air as many simply dont need the performance of the larger MBP's, however prefer the larger display.

For a desktop replacement not a fan of the USB C only port solution, for an ultralight portable it's liveable...

I'd hazard a guess they sell in significant volume to both business & general public, nor are they slouches by any means. That said with the advancement of the Air the 13" Pro is likely borrowed time and would not be surprised if depreciated on the release of the M3 Air.

I seriously doubt Apple stockpiles anything as it's very on demand focused. M1 Air & M1 13" Pro all R&D is very likely fully depreciated so for both Apple and the customer there's benefit...
