I bought some of this stuff from ebay....Link I did some research on the brand and I have seen a few people successfully using it in Intel Mac's so I thought I'd take the plunge, if my MacBook doesnt like it I'll just remove it and sell it on eBay again, If after a few weeks my MacBook likes it I'll probably order a second stick,

Item title: 1GB ADATA DDR2 667 SODIMM R-PC5300 1 GB Laptop RAM New
Buy It Now price: £36.99 x 2
Sub total: £73.98

That is unbelieveably cheap, I'm almost suspiciuous.

Please, please, please give updates on how this works.

Yes, me too!!!

Under £40??

You could buy 3gb for the same price as 1gb from crucial.

I could order 5gig, and then as long as two sticks work, it would be better value than from crucial!!! :p

Please, let us know.

I would also like to know the story with this A-Data RAM, it's so cheap that i can't really ignore it.

There is also another seller on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6880889128&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1
This stuff is around £120 for 2GB, and he claims compatability and a full refund if it's not.

My next choice after these two is Orcalogic.co.uk at £150 for 2GB.

Think it's sensible to buy in the UK, as there is always the chance of getting a bad stick and having to send it back. However, any news on the A-Data would be much appreciated.

OK, folks, where along the line have you missed the part about the A-Data RAM on eBay coming from Hong Kong?

You are going to have long shipping times, you be hit with VAT and duty at the border, and you going to be completely helically fastened if there is any warranty issue. Plus who knows what RAM you will actually get? If it's not compatible, you can go for a refund through PayPal right ? Wrong, it's going to cost you 10's of pounds to ship the little freaker back and you won't be refunded shipping or VAT or clearing costs.

Sorry, another "MacBook this or that" thread. Couldn’t find any UK specific info.

crucial.com/uk is selling 2x1GB for the MacBook at £223.24 ($419.63).

Just wondered if anyone has a cheaper UK retailer of RAM - I've been searching and I haven’t found anything that’s guaranteed to be reliable.

dabs.com has some Crucial RAM 2x1GB for £150 with all the necessary specs apart from its states its "240pin", and presumably this wouldn’t work in the MacBook because the Crucial advisor thing produces 200-pin RAM.

Any suggestions for funky retailers?

Cheers guys & gals :)

Edit: dabs link

That dabs link is for normal desktop DIMM's and not SO-DIMMs needed for the intel Mac's

These corsair ones are the right size and corsair is a reputable company. I have corsair value ram in my Mini and i've never had a problem with it. If i knew about this before i bought the crucial ram i would have bought this.

Thanks for the link to Scans site, just got a 17"MBP last night and I have just spent 15 minutes trying to find the right one for 1GB Ram. I presume this is also OK for the MBP?
BTW the 17" is as quiet as a church mouse and has not burnt my fingers yet !!!:)

THE 17" MBP's SQUEAK? :O OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!

Back to normality... those ram chips should work in all the current intel iMacs as they all use the same memory. I'll be ordering them anyway if i need new ram.

When i get refunded for my MBP i'll be getting a 17" iMac and possibly a 2GHz White MB.

I bought 2 x 1Gb TMTC DDR2-667 from www.lowestonweb.com a couple of months back (had a dell lappy but knew id be able to use as well in MB Pro and hopefully MB)

Tried last night in my shiny white 2.0Ghz Macbook and work a treat..

cost £110 for 2 inc delivery!

dont know if they still have them if not try evesham as that is their parent company

Ah fabulous, I know of Evesham. Purchased our PC from them a couple of years ago and received great service. Will probably use them.

Edit: Can’t find any compatible ram on their site, however.

samsung RAm

Got ym RAm through today

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWN:IT&rd=1

arrived in 5 days from US with no customs and online tracking- really good service. Only problem is.....I have no macbook yet :(

Gonna order on Monday (tuesday if they're closed).

In the mean time, is there anyway to check if they are going to work/ if they are genuine samsung etc.

WOOHOO!! well i got my macbook pro yesterday (2.0 ghz) installed this memory (2gb, the adata from ebay) and it works flawlessly!! i ran both the apple hardware test and memtest several time and encoded a video through the night and you can't fault it!!

i recommend to get it in pairs as other people have said that mismatched ram may cause conflicts but at this price you can get a pair for the price of a single anyway! :D :D :D

very pleased with my bargain purchase, just £80 for 2gb of ram!

I have the macbook. But the RAM (1GB) is still shipping.

I am going to a mismatch even though it is not recommended since 1.25 GB will be better than 2 x 256 MB I believe.

How many days did yours take to arrive Shadow?

Finally ordered my macbook yesterday, just waiting for them to send me the 6month 0% interest agreement thing that I need to sign and then send back. (can't afford to part with £1000 all at once!) Got a black one with 120GB HD for anyone who's interested. Then once I fit the ram (assuming it works), it'll be maxed out, and hopefully run s**t quick!!

OK. I have the RAM now. And I installed it in the MacBook. The installation was pretty easy although you have to pull those levers quite hard!

The difference is pretty incredible. For all the people saying that a MacBook is unusable on 512 MB: it is. But it is much more useable with more!

I am now on 1.25 GB RAM and I will probably upgrade to 2 GB in a month or so.
