I redownloaded from your site, recreated, the same. I assume that the issue is in some .plist file, because when I boot the installer in verbose mode it tells me straight away my Mac's board ID isn't supported. You might've deleted some line in your code because the first version worked fine.
One thing you may want to check is the volumes you have mounted. Go into your /Volumes directory and make sure "OS X Base System" and "OS X Install ESD" aren't there.

@dosdude1

I was able to get this installed on my Macbook 5,4. However, I've noticed a couple of problems. Other than that, things seem to be working.

  • Can't access the Time Machine preferences pane. (fixed itself after reboot)
  • Safari seems to keep the cpu going...
  • Keyboard autorepeat seems to have stopped working. (I've already tried the Googled fix of "
defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool false")

Hi, Dosdude1, me as well I have the forbidden sign when I try to boot....I saw your video on youtube and did exactly what u did...patched sierra public beta well but when I try to boot, forbidden sign....what am I missing here? ...
do I need to use Parrotgeek1 script and your patch tool together?

It should work with just my patch. Try using a different machine/install maybe?

That could just be issues with Sierra itself, not the fact that it's running on an unsupported machine.

Make sure you run the post-install on your new image BEFORE you boot.
Also, cause it happened to me, make sure you pick the right target when you post-install. I mistakenly selected the .Trash volume once o_O...

In the latest release, I added a feature the detects whether or not the selected volume contains a valid install.

Very cool!

Have you changed that version number yet...;) Not sure what patcher I'm testing any more...I check the file size. Don't know how you run development test AND support ... More power to you.

Can I install Sierra without USB?
You may be able to use a second partition on your hard drive.

The latest version at this time is 2.5. The latest revision can always be downloaded from the link in http://dosdude1.com/sierrapatch.html

Thanks. Just FYI, if it helps refine your patcher in the future, I encountered a curious bug while running your patcher under DP1 (by mistake - not sure if it's Sierra compatible? - see post above)). My original DP1 stick was still USB mounted while I was building another one. There must have been some volume name collision (both called OS X Base) because it suddenly started accessing the original (wrong) one. I'm pretty sure I didn't mix them up since I repartitioned the new stick with a new volume name first. Your patcher renames them anyway to OS X Base. Anyway, just a nit...

Fair enough. (Question for everyone: has anyone experienced autorepeat not working on Sierra?)

Also, for your guide, you might want to mark Steps 5 & 6 to be optional, particularly for people that want to just do an upgrade. I opted to upgrade instead of a fresh install and the upgrade went through with no issues.

Dosdude1, I downloaded again the patcher, followed your guide and video and still the forbidden sign on boot...I really dont get it what can be the issue....I have only a macbook late 2008, 5.1, el Capitan.... apparently there's another guy here having the same problem as me...do u have any idea what can be the culprit?...shall I replace any platformsupport.plist to work with the patcher?

For anyone looking for a Liteicon fix, i experimented around a little bit and in Liteicon > contents > resources I changed icondata_ 10.11 to icondata_ 10.12 and it works pretty stable now, albeit you get a "This system is not supported" banner across the top. Happy Customizing.

Hi - I don't wish to register my computer for the Sierra public beta so if I use a supported mac (that has not had any Sierra beta installed) and go through the developer connection to download the latest preview will I get DP2? and if so, will the latest version of the patch tool work with this version? (I am trying to install the latest DP2 on a MBP which has DP1 successfully installed using V2 of patch tool.) I'm not sure what the differences are between developer DP2 and the public beta (as they seem to have slightly different build numbers)

Any tips for an update to DP2 with the .pkg files (already downloaded)? Or is it not possible to update without a supported Mac where you can start the Update.
