A few little changes to the UI.

The menu bar shadows got larger, but window shadows got smaller.
High Sierra on left, Mojave right:

Translucency is also more subtle

Thank you for sharing; the translucency seems like a bit of a bummer to be honest. I like how much translucency there is to these window bars in High Sierra; from your comparison it looks like it will barely be noticeable.

There already is the option to completely turn translucency off for those who don't like it, so I see no reason why they would reduce it to the point where it's almost not there anymore.

Is this new? Don't think I've ever seen it before on any OS X release. (Of course, could just be that there's some memory leak in the beta...)

Not new. It is indeed indicative of a pre-release memory leak — check Activity Monitor.

Safari's cookies and website data options have been reduced to one checkbox to "Block all cookies". In previous Safari versions there was the options to "Allow from the current website only" or "Allow from websites I visit".

An odd step backwards considering how they announced better tracking protection. Some cookies are useful, but third party cookies are almost exclusively used for tracking.

It's no longer a useful option, especially with 'Prevent cross-site tracking', because the mechanism of which cookies are useful is far more complex than their mere origin.

I don't think this has been answered already, but… Aperture? Still working?

I'm a little confused with the British English localisation.

Here's my High Sierra installation:

Doesn't that show localised British English on the left? What's the difference between this and Mojave?

Edit: Apologies, I probably shouldn't have asked this in this thread, I don't mean to clog it up.

The only differences I've observed are things like 'Customise' and 'Color' now being spelled 'Customise' and 'Colour'. I think someone said that in the new Australian localisation, the Trash has been renamed to Bin, so maybe that will change in a later beta too.

I believe on High Sierra British English is a supported language, so third-party apps can look at your preference and give you that language if it's available for the app. However, the OS itself has remained in American English.

Ah, I see. Thank you!

Does it mean that the new dynamic or dark desktop mode only works with the Mojave wallpaper?
Will it apply to the wallpapers added by myself?
How do you imagine your wallpapers to change? they cant just make it night :p
I guess it would be cool if the UI could change regardless of the wallpaper

They could use a series of photos of the same location/object instead of a single one, for example?

In fact, if Apple were to give the user the option to add custom dynamic wallpapers (which, let's be honest, is probably not going the happen), then users would most definitely share their own photo sets online sooner or later so that everyone can select custom third-party dynamic wallpapers. I mean, there already are plenty of photo series of the same object at day and night online. Would be pretty awesome.

Yeah sure but they cant take one of your photos and automatically make it a night picture ;)
I guess this shouldnt be to complicated. You would just need a tool who creates an dynamic picture out of 12 normal ones. The problem is rather that having pictures of the same locations @ different times might be quite rare.

Sure, but this wasn't what the person you originally responded to suggested, they just asked if it would be possible to use the dynamic wallpaper feature with some that you add yourself (at least from what I understood). :)

I agree with that... it will mostly come down to whether or not Apple opens up that functionality. If they do, then we'd have access to a basically unlimited amount of dynamic wallpapers, seeing how there are plenty of time lapse videos and whatnot of all kinds of different locations on the web – picking out 12 different photos of such a time lapse or photo series wouldn't be too difficult.

If Apple doesn't open it up the dynamic wallpaper feature to those that you add yourself, or at least add a few more Apple-made ones than just a single one, then I view this feature as a proof of concept more than anything else because you'd have zero choice about it. You either like to use this very one wallpaper all the time, or you have other wallpapers, locations or motives that you prefer over the Mojave desert one and are completely locked out from taking advantage of the dynamic wallpaper feature.

Right now it looks like what we get is closer to the second of the two... but there are still a couple months till release, so there#s still some chance that Apple will add or change anything about it. It wouldn't be the first time that Apple added some more new wallpapers in one of the later betas; in fact they have done that a number of times over the last couple years.

Actually i Don't think it would be to hard for a 3rd Party to find a way to create such a tool. I'm rather confident that could happen instead of apple making more wallpapers

Is this dynamic wallpaper thing related to animated wallpapers like Windows Vista's Dreamscene? Assuming you can choose speed.

There's also Earthdesk, which has used this same idea for "real-time" views of the earth from space for years and years.

I'm happy with it so far. I don't know why, but it feels like being more modern OS. It's not only about the dark mode, the GUI is tweaked in some other ways (as someone said earlier, shadows are changed, windows colours using light appearance, Safari is changed a bit and etc.). It's way too unstable now, but it's a first beta, so it's expected. Can't wait to get a more stable version (it's pain that iTunes doesn't work).

Is there only one dynamic desktop? Did Apple provide any sort of tool for making them?
