Nice. But just to be clear: after manually running the HS software update patch (which copies SUVMMFaker etc..) on an unsupported machine running a Mojave beta, Apple's Software Update (in System Preferences) let you download and install a new beta?

Run the Mojave one instead.

Thanks, didn't see that. Is that an update to Czo's Faker dylib? Or is it the same one distributed for HS ?

Is there a way to trick macOS into thinking that I have a different MacBook?
Julian - it was possible to fool Apple's softwareupdated by spoofing machine feature strings and names (like returnning iMac 10,1 even though you're on an older machine): that's what @Czo 's SUVMMFaker.dylib used to do. It worked up to HS (see the script) and I'm sure newer versions did much more than the original Sierra cut. I'm not sure how that works on Mojave betas. That's why I'm asking.

UI glitches in the installer usb have been fixed with Mojave beta 4. This applies to supported and unsupported Macs.

To be entirely honest I have idea what that file is. It’s the file used by dosdude1’s patcher to patch software updates. I have tested it and it works. It installed it using the patcher though so installing it manually might be different.

@dosdude1 What exactly prevents the recovery partition patch from working on APFS drives?

The UI glitches were when you were booted into the installer usb. Simply erase your old patcher drive and create a new one using the new installer and patcher.

yes installer usb, but in system too.
ok I understand about patcher, thanks. so, when I will update Mojave via software update, all will be ok without crashes?

New patch worked great on a macbook pro 6,2 but I think i needed legacy usb on post install as setup got stuck on wifi. repatched including legacy wifi and was golden.

Thanks. Looks like that worked. I am still curious to know how it works, though.

According to @pkouame it works by spoofing the machine identifiers.

I did had a similar issue in past, given that I after learned that it is not healthy to charge a lithium battery 100%, it could be or SMC issue so resetting should fix it, or inaccurate software measuring incompatible libraries with the current MacOS, or a faulty battery, or less-powered Magsafe charger.
I don't exclude that patching could alterate battery values (not physical but logical).

Anyway most probably is the software (Battery Health I guess) that needs an update to support current MacOS libraries.

edit:
I thought you were referring to the Amperage (mA) instead of mAh capacity, an inadvertence of mine but I confirm what I have written before.

It may be a faulty battery because it is an almost 7 year old battery according to the battery software I downloaded. Plus it only holds about 80% or so of what it should. I have been planning on buying an iFixit battery (I don’t trust the batteries on Amazon for $20-$30) so it might be a while but I will update my post if a new battery fixes it.

Also even MacOS reports that the battery percentage is low when it really isn’t. So it isn’t just the Battery Health software. Either way I’ll try a new battery and I’ll report back with the results.

Cool. I wasn't aware there was a "reissued PB 2", what was that? I'll try an in-place upgrade from beta 3 to 4 a little later tonight then.

The update period is usually three years for Safari + general security updates and four years for iTunes (minus one year as High Sierra was released last fall). Third-party browsers such as Chrome are generally supported for twice as long as Safari.

So there's still some time to go before High Sierra is no longer viable, but missing out on features like dark mode on older Macs is seriously disappointing nonetheless. Dark mode should have been added years ago in my opinion.
yeah, Apple didn't care about your eyes years ago.

Me too! ;) . So you were able to patch from one beta to another using System Preferences?
When I was on MacOS Mojave 18A326g I used a utility SWUSwitcher and the utility gives you 3 options regular update, public beta updates or developers beta updates that worked to upgrade to 18A326h but not for developers beta 4

Dynamic desktop now works on supported and unsupported Macs even in dark mode.
[doublepost=1531858146][/doublepost]Dashboard is still broken on unsupported and supported Macs.
[doublepost=1531858247][/doublepost]The beta profile isn’t installed by default when installing Mojave on unsupported Macs.
