Hi, London Time here and no update yet... Someone with a MacBook pro 8,1 installed the update successfully?
Just to be clear, if I receive the update, just download it, install it and then flash the USB with patches to install them again and then boot the os? Is that it?

You need to have the beta profile installed.

To those as me who are missing in the new dark Maps app the pinch zoom-out to show the entire 3d globe (like in HS Maps), since even after app launch the 3D button or the CMD+O doesn't work, at least in Mojave beta the only workaround is:

Starting from a satellite 2D view, choose any of the 3d tour cities available, then exit from the "flyover 3D tour" and on the bottom-right the 3D button clicking becomes available.
After clicking "3D" you can finally pinch zoom-out until the full 3d Earth globe.

Easier done than said.

And what about the question I made? Do you know how to install the update without break the system? Download the update
Install the update
Run USB with patches
Install them
Reboot to OS

Is that it?

Yes that should work.

It seems to be taking a long time unlocking my encrypted APFS to install Mojave on. Is this normal?

I don't have the option to patch the restore partition on my MBP 8,1. It's greyed out. Not sure why.

You can use your USB Mojave Installer acting as Recovery partition replacement, or cloning any High Sierra Recovery HD to a manual created partition sized around 2 GB.
If instead want a Mojave Recovery HD, I don't know how to patch it especially to inject the legacy USB inside, so only dosdude1 could answer to this.

Asked the same question one page before, no reply... this doesn't bode well.

In my mid-2011 27" iMac, I've just change the GC (faulty 6970M 2GB repaired at least 2 times) to a Nvidia GeForce GTX 765M. I've also changed the Airport Card to avoid issues with Mojave and enable missing functionalities such as Continuity, Airdrop... It cost me 110€ for the Nvidia card and 40€ for the Airport+adapter.
Some mods on the dissipator has to be done to make the new GC fit and it's quite plug and play for the Airport card.

I've installed yesterday the b4 on a USB disk just for testing and used the Mojave patcher with my iMac version. I've just unticked the Graphic and Wifi patch.
It works like a charm :)

Nice! I'll see if this can be done, hopefully it won't cost too much.

One question though: did you use a third party graphic card? Like Dell, Asus, etc... ? Or an original Apple one?

Do you retain all the functionalities like multiple monitors out, brightness controls, etc... ?

Even if here officially do not treat your machine topic, I guess the only way is formatting the APFS container in HFS+, then reinstall from scratch.

I guess your issue is one of the two GPUs.
The Legacy Video patch I don't think is suited for your two GPUs.
The GT630 even if Metal capable it is not understandable if is made with Fermi or Kepler cores:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_600_series#GeForce_600_.286xx.29_series

The other instead seems to have an "official" MacOS driver for example this: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/136062/en-us
To install the driver for FX 5600 you should boot in safe mode (holding SHIFT (⇧) key at boot before and after the apple logo for about 5 seconds)

Anyway try to take out one at once your GPUs, maybe with one only inserted you could pass the Apple progress bar.

I also upgraded from beta3 to beta4 at that time, because there were no problems, why is not it going from beta4 to beta5? I have to investigate again, there was and still is a possibility to do so.

Maybe you have done a mismatch between the Public Beta Seed and Developer Preview Seed Enrollment, so that's why the swupdate panel downloaded the full installer of 5.89 GB instead of 3-4 GB.

As far I know apple'd do everything to force converting in apfs any disk that intend upgrading its HighSierra.

The weird thing is that you have successful converted from hfs+ to apfs in a non-mac hardware during an in-place upgrade.

Of course on non-mac hardware there is no risk to brick the EFI.

I haven't installed home-brew yet but all my apps work I was surprised iPhoto still works as Apple removed it for Photo's
Tastes great! Less filling ;) .

Hey did your system update auto-install and restart from b4 to b5 ? Without the beta utility? I went from b3 to b4 by simply enrolling via seedutil.

I used the beta utility then when I saw your message that beta 5 was out I checked the software update :)
