did that as well, a note; if you (my experience) go into Night Shift it WILL turn your screen orange, I tried & had to use ResXtreme to get back to "normal".

As I posted earlier, I'm going to wipe SSD and do a "Clean Install" and see if that at least makes it some what usable, then migrate (in small increments) apps & see what happens.
did you have any luck with the update APFS Rom patcher

Changing the subject, but it has become apparent that Apple over the last year has deprecated booting from APFS RAID, making it difficult in HS and now impossible in Mojave. When I asked an expert why Apple would do this, his (edited for privacy) answer is provided below. What I take from this is a time is coming when what we do here will not be possible any more.

_________________________
It is all about "security".
...they want to lock down the system to prevent any possible root attacks. So the boot process is completely controlled with a locked down set of drivers to load at startup.
They could enable RAID in this scenario, but (it) would take more effort. We even proposed a model that would work, but were shot down. The "Security" team wants a simple process... .
.
.
.
We no longer have root access to the boot device for any reason. Not even to verify a disk, detect disk errors, etc. It is all isolated from even admin access.

Have you seen this ? https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/334626-mojave-raid-0-apfs-solution/

I've tried the hfs version of this and that worked with 2 internal hdds with Mojave on a 2010 mbp 15 inch and dosdudes patched installer.

Edit: apfs version did not work with the patcher on my 2010 mbp, in the last minute it shows the error message: Running bless to place boot files failed. The same thing happens on a supported mac using a regular usb installer.
[doublepost=1534317278][/doublepost]
I've verified all installers versions for DP 1-6/PB 1-5. Now, does anyone have the official installer version for DP 7/PB 6/
I forgot I still have the usb installer with dp7. Maybe its wrong, but take a look at the screenshot.

N are there hackintosh laptops running core i9s?
Of course.

Obsolete..!!! Talking about proprietary APFS *.efi driver for using with h*ckintosh, we're at Clover have developed our own OpenSource version named "ApfsDriverLoader": based on reverse-engineered Apple's ApfsJumpStart driver since while ago (this is new repo, now with v2.x after project has been moved, thanks to @savvamitr*fanov). NO, I'm not guessing ppl here to use it, so plz don't even try it on your real macs.

You can #ofc build it your self using Xcode for sure, or entire Clover package with EDK2 or UDK2018 including new ApfsDriverLoader (./ebuild.sh --ext-co), or just use it from Releases page.

FakeSMC is OffTopic here, though I never getting issue with HighSierra upto Mojave using Slice's fork v3.5.x. No more comment from me about h*ckintosh, sorry.. since I've told early that I'll never ask for it's support here. But if your choice is teaching @dosdude1 @parrotgeek1 etc. about how Apple-Intel-Arch operate (?), it's up to you (I've to thank to all of them for MLPostFactor Patcher.app that I use on my MB4,1 with 10.8.5). I'm using my non-real mac here with Fermi graphics is just for comparison after Apple dropped lots of unsupported graphics models under Mojave, but interestingly still including NVDAGF*.kext on SLE, that Apple don't even use it on their real macs (on vanilla system for sure, not 'ked by any ~beast #LoL). Sorry if sounds harsh, though I don't think so.

Also sorry @pkouame, for my prev. report with succeeded any Beta Updates under Mojave, my bad.. I just realized that I use supported platform (MBP10,1), so it doesn't make a sense here. Thanks.
The point is that apfs seems to change from build to build. Would the Clover component keep it up?
[doublepost=1534327273][/doublepost]After the update, at least some component work way slower than before. Like Disk Utility. Perhaps shall I try to re-build caches?

Thanks for the suggestion of using Res Xtreme, @saudor. I've just downloaded it, and as you can see from the screenshot below, it lists two profiles for each resolution - one at 4 bit depth, one at 8. I double clicked the 4 bit depth setting, and my display went back to normal! It remains to be seen if this will stick after a reboot, but I reboot so infrequently that I'm happy to just keep the app hanging around in case I need to reset the setting. Thanks so much!

@timthomason - give Res Xtreme a try, it sounds like we've got the same problem. Literally, just download it from this URL, run the app, and double click on the line for whichever resolution you are using and which lists the Depth as 4.

Alright, I've finally finished it... APFS ROM Patcher is finally done! Some precautions:

- APFS ROM Patcher is to be used AT YOUR OWN RISK! There is always the possibility that your machine could become bricked as a result.
- DO NOT apply APFS ROM Patcher if your machine already can boot from APFS volumes
- If you get the following dialog, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you open your machine, remove your logic board if necessary, and verify the exact EEPROM type your machine has. Selecting the wrong EEPROM model will MOST LIKELY result in a bricked system!

So here goes a blow by blow account of how this worked (for me)
Screen Shot 2018-08-15 at 9.59.38 AM.png

READ THIS PANEL! After doing so I heard a long Beep! Then your machine will boot up normally...

I haven't installed APFS yet. Will do so tonight...

Wow, it’s amazing the stuff we can do with hacking. Now, if only we could fix these UI glitch and AMD acceleration glitches.

Tell me about it. When Apple deprecates stuff, they should really consider completely open sourcing their old frameworks. We are entirely capable of self-maintaining our old machines...I'm pretty confident I could patch the glitches reliably with some code and de-compiled opengl shaders...Oh well...

Is there a way to exploit the system and “force de-compile” things?

@dosdude1 do I need to update my patcher with the latest post-install for a dp6 to dp7 system update? I have the patcher version you synched for dp6 but am not sure if it matters. System update to dp7 just finished, just waiting to post-install. Thanks.

5,3 MacBook Pro 15 inch here. When I check disk utility it says I have my main SSD as a APFS format. Does this mean I don't need the Rom Patcher? I ask because I've never seen the drive performance gains that APFS was suppose to bring. When I move files from the download folder it takes just as long as ever.

I have a hard drive installed in the CD drive bay that is not APFS.

You must have applied the patch previously, or you're using the APFS boot script from High Sierra Patcher (you'll know if you see scrolling text at boot before the Apple logo screen).

I never released an update to the patcher for DP7, as the current version works just fine with it.

Can I install APFS on an internal SSD without doing the Patcher? I'm on a MacBook 5,4 running firmware 1.7.
Not with Mojave, no. You'll need to apply the BootROM patch in order to boot from an APFS volume.

Ok, thank you...I will stay on HFS+ for fear of bricking.

It’s very unlikely unless you have a model with multiple options. If you want to be really sure, do it from a clean install with a clean account and just after booting (to insure no other programs are running that could break anything.

How come it works with the new version? I thought that a component that was replaced was version specific. It was OSInstall.mpkg I believe.

Yes, disassembly is possible (and has been attempted if i''m not mistaken). Even decompiling shaders is possible (never tried it myself). Best to have original source though. All very time consuming.

Edit: has dp7 changed the glitching any? I'm not up on it yet (post-install pending tonight) ...

Hi, I am trying to apply the apfs rom-patcher and I keep getting a message : "DirectHW.kext could not be loaded . The operation cannot proceed" . I know that it's something I am doing wrong as I have tried three machines ( all 2009 pros ). I turn off the machine, wait, hold down the power button until it blinks rapidly the goes off and the machine boots with the chime as normal . Any ideas? i feel like a tool asking cause its probably staring me in the face but it is driving me mad.

Also kudos to Dosdude and gang who have all worked so hard to keep all our machines going after apple stopped supporting them . You guys rock
