The YouTube video that dosdude1 did last month

shows Mojave running on a MacBook Pro 4,1 and notes that, like other models, you will have to open up the unit and replace your wifi card with a supported card. I would suggest that you make sure the replacement card supports simultaneous dual-band so that AirDrop works and that it doesn't require the legacy wifi patch if possible. The AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x8E) Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.106.98.102.30) that I purchased off of Amazon last year for my MacPro 3,1 achieves both.
Ok...this was a laptop that had an upgraded 0×16 wireless card so I don't understand (Athereos AR5008X)

That's not an upgrade... That's the old crappy Atheros card from a 2006/2007 model. That's why it doesn't work.
Hmmm that ebay seller robbed me..lol that the same laptop I ask you about concerning the trackpad on high sierra... early 2008 my ass..anyway I have a broadcom broadcom bcm94313hmg2l from a lenovo..maybe that would work or an atheros AR5B225 from a samsung...

Googling suggests that an Apple part number 661-4766 AirPort Extreme will work at least according to OWC who sells them for $50. You can get one used from PowerbookMedic for $17.75.

Oops. Those are for late 2008. It is a lot harder to find a compatible model at a decent price compared to a MacPro 3,1/4.1.

Try them, if they fit in the slot. Otherwise, this is the card I normally recommend people upgrade to.

I just opened the laptop and jeez the airport card is so long...the ones from the windows laptops are really short...only the slot that fits..same cutout.. the three wires can't even reach the two holes...now I'm gonna go back to el Capitan and just chill out... can I downgrade without losing my files and apps?? If I have to well no biggie...just would lose progress on my threads of fate ps1 game from wine enabled epsxe...took me a long time to setup that ****. I'm in the caribbean so I would have to wait to get that compatible wireless card..too long...have a couple phones that need unlocking soon as possible.

Thanks...they are too short for the three wires...the one you suggested only have to holes as compared to the three holes on the airport card...I'm gonna get the one you suggested...which connector do I have to use..and what functionality would I lose as it's only going to be two connections

You'll lose no functionality, as they are just antennas. The middle connector (white one, I believe) is simply left unused.

  • AMD Radeon HD 5xxx/6xxx series GPU acceleration: Currently, it is not possible to get graphics acceleration when running Mojave on a system with a Radeon HD 5xxx or 6xxx series GPU.
So to confirm I’m understanding this correctly: if I attempt Mojave on my MacPro5,1 defined hackintosh that has 1x AMD 5770 and 1x AMD 5450 I will lose support for running my 5 displays as there will be no graphics acceleration and be limited to one display per card?

That's correct. The system will also be very laggy and practically unusable.

Hi, will there be a chance that the Video card issues for these AMD Radeon HD 5xxx/6xxx will be solved in the near future? Might there be a solution, or impossible? Thanks!

https://hackintosher.com/guides/guide-to-fresh-installing-macos-mojave-on-a-hackintosh-10-14/ read that post, I can't confirm it but the person claims to get full acceleration on AMD cards only.....

Have there been any bootrom updates for MBP in this beta? Specifically wanting to see if the updated NVMe driver found in 2015 MBP is applied to the older 2013-2014 MBP :) Current bootrom version is MBP111.0146.B00

I now have 10.14 installed on my 17" MacBook Pro Late 2011. Seems to work great with the intel GPU, but had to check the Legacy Video Card Patch to get full acceleration. My only outstanding issues are the same ones I have with 10.13 and the dGPU disabler, I can't wake from sleep, and I can't adjust brightness. Do you know if anyone else is having this issue, or if it's my system's defective AMD chip? I'm trying to determine if it's something in the way your disabling the AMD GPU, or if it's specific to my system.

Thanks!

Hi @Edgecrusherr, I'm having exactly the same problem with a MBP8,3. It seems to me that dosdude1's GPU Disabler is causing the sleep and brightness issues, as the problem is happening on a clean install of High Sierra too, where no post install patches are required.
Have you fixed this yourself yet?

@dosdude1 I'm new to the forum and I've searched this thread but haven't found a solution yet. I really do appreciate your work on this but just want to see if you have a definitive answer on this?

Thanks in advance!

That's an issue that it has under High Sierra, in order to get the system working perfectly, you'll need to do a hardware mod to disable the dGPU, as I've done in my thread here.

I wonder if the firmware on older Macs could be modified to support internet recovery? Or unsupported Mac system downloads?
Nope, two reasons.

First, every Mac that has Internet Recovery, has a SPI flash memory of at least 8MB, old Macs have 2 or 4MB FWB/SPI flash memory. Second, Internet Recovery uses the Mac hardware ID to download the images from Apple, if your hardware ID is not there…

What are the finer nuances of flashing a PC GTX 680 graphics card with Mac ROMs? Specifically are there multiple versions of the Mac ROMs to choose from and does it really make a difference which brand of card you start with (eg Asus, EVGA. Gigabytes, MSI)?
