Alright, got everything figured out! To get acceleration working under 10.14.4 with a non-Metal GPU, just download this archive, extract it, cd into the extracted directory using Terminal, and then run ./install.sh. Please ensure you have the Legacy Video Card Patch installed properly (you can re-apply it with the post-install patch, or re-install it using Patch Updater after running the script just to be sure). After rebooting, you should now have full graphics acceleration!

Hello I don't know how exactly how to run this, I cd right but what I should next to run ./install.sh :p

Thanks for confirming the flakiness of (some) Kingston SSDs. I substituted a Crucial. No problems so far. The other question - didn't anyone have problems with patched BCM94321 WiFi cards?

I replaced the original Bluetooth card in my 17" Early 2008 MacBook Pro with a $9.50 brand new Broadcom BCM94322MC card from China off eBay after I installed Mojave and the original Bluetooth card stopped working. Several weeks after I installed the Broadcom BCM94322MC, DosDude1's macOS Mojave Patch Updater supposed added support for my original Bluetooth card.

First of all, a big thank you for releasing this tool! My MacBook late 2008 (MacBook 5,1) with a GeForce 9400M is still my main computer thanks to this tool. I work now mainly on my iPad, much faster, but less convenient for writing and saving my librairies. And current 15' MacBook Pro are just incredibly expensive for what I am using it.

However, since High Sierra patch and even more since Mojave patch, I encounter big graphic glitches in Apple photos. The glitches are so big, that it corrupt pictures.

Under High Sierra, I noticed that I could not edit a live pictures, otherwise, I would got some random colored pixels instead of my picture.
Since Mojave, the same bug appears with classic jpg images. Some settings does not affect the picture (like white dot adjustment), but other like the repair tool completely destroy my picture. I have to use the "go back to original picture" item to recover it.

I guess Apple Photos use some graphic acceleration to process pictures that my mac does not have or do not use it properly.

Hello everyone. Apologies adding to this topic with such a basic question however I don't completely understand the situation yet.

I have a Mac Pro 3,1 which is fitted with an AMD Radeon HD 7950. Does this rule me out of this update? I have assumed the answer is yes, but I'm not 100% sure yet

Thanks

Tony

edit: I should add that my misunderstanding come from the fact that stated in the FAQ, the newer AMD graphics cards only have x64 drivers available. However, the X5482 fitted to my machine are 64bit, so I am misunderstanding the issue I believe

--------------------

edit 2: I am in idiot - it's the SSE4.2 instruction set that is the issue. Apologies everyone

Yes, it is the AMD drivers using SSE4.2 that limits the mp3.1. However, if you really want to run Mojave then an nVIdia Kepler series card is the way to go. The GTX680 with Mac efi results in the mp3.1 running Mojave very well.

APFS ROM Patcher:
Warning: This tool could irreversibly brick your EFI chip. Please exercise caution with machines that have multiple EEPROM definitions. Relevant information can be found here and here. The APFS ROM patcher can be found here. Use the password apfs to decrypt the ZIP.

Just curious, is the APFS ROM PATCHER a bootloader? After applying it I have a mysterious EFI Boot partition when selecting the startup disk while booting... and that partition keeps making my Mac boots slower than press Option and choose the startup disk (although I had chosen the macOS partition as the main booting partition in System Preferences)

It seems to be a side effect of applying the APFS ROM patcher. I like the fact that this EFI Boot partition is actually functional and not just "sitting there doing nothing". When I installed High Sierra as a second bootable APFS partition on my MacBook5,1, I used that EFI Boot partition to boot into the newly installed High Sierra after the post instal patches have been applied. Selecting the High Sierra partition in the boot menu was giving me a prohibited sign. Eventually it sorted itself out but for that initial one or two first boots the EFI Boot partition proved to be invaluable.
[doublepost=1559410828][/doublepost]I recently started paying attention to the CPU diode temperature and the fan speed so I am wondering at what temperature everybody's older C2D MacBooks/Pros are running?
Apple Mail and SafariTechPreview(Macrumors) are running, room temperature around 22 degrees C.

Actually, my country is experiencing extremely hot weather so my MB5,1 always at nearly 100oC. Quite uncomfortable when using the machine.

EDIT: The machine is 70oC already when booting (or no app is running)

This is about right. My machine is 60-65oC from the get go. Apparently Apple allows the machines to get hot before starting the fan in order to keep them more quiet. I started using an app that adjusts the fan curve, hopefully it will help to extend the life of the system.

I am not sure if it is related to your issue but since High Sierra, a GeForce 9400M seems to struggle with some of the videos(unable to play them most of the time, then plays them without issues out of nowhere) even on officially supported MacBook6,1.
I started experiencing a similar issue with Mojave as well which is not a surprise since we are using some High Sierra frameworks.

Hi
My MBP5,3 is at 46°C after start-up and at 50°C 10 minutes after start-up, in internet browsing with Firefox 67.0 it is at 60-65°C.
I use iStatMenu with rules to control fans based on CPU temperature. I also think that a more cooled machine will preserve its components.

Interesting case.
I was running 14.4 without any problems and got the annoying notification that 14.5 was official. I read here how much people like it better than .4 so I thought I'd try it. Upgrade ran fine and I did make a USB before the upgrade with dosdude's package.

After the upgrade, my MBP 5,5 2009 crawled to a snail's pace. I had flashbacks to Windows 1.0 on a 286 box.
Boot up 1.49 minutes. Not bad.
Login to ready to start working... 15 minutes!
Onyx, the whole bit. Same.

I decided to roll back to .4. I had the USB I had used previously and during the past two days using multiple USBs and versions, .3 .4 and .5, I have seen three different scenarios. All of which fail every time.

The first is a failure to verify core.pkg. This is common and most of the time restarting it will successfully verify the core.pkg.

Second is after a successful verify, it begins to extract the contents of core.pkg and the fails on either a random True Type Font OR a desktop jpeg.

The third is the most painful, because neither of the first two occur, and I get hopeful it will complete and then it hangs. No message, just "30 minutes to complete" on the progress bar and no more entries in the logs. Am I waiting long enough? Yesterday I waited an additional 1.5 hours to make sure it wasn't just slow before I killed it.

Again these events are random and it doesn't matter which version of Mojave (.3 .4 .5) I'm using. Multiple USBs used all good and also using both versions (1.3.0 and 1.3.2) of the Patch tool.

Is there anything you folks might know that can help me? I'm worn out.

thanks!

This does sound very strange. Maybe the hard drive/ribbon cable is dying? Have you tried installing on an external HDD/SSD?

I have a mid 2010 13 inch MacBook Pro that is running high Sierra on its own without any patch, I am thinking about trying this but want to make sure that my 2010 MacBook Pro will be able to handle it ok first. it has a 256gb SSD and 8gb of ram.

It depends on what are you trying to get out of Mojave on your unsupported Mac. Keep in mind that Mojave and the latest demanding apps(Final Cut Pro etc.) are optimised for the Metal which your MBP does not have. Nothing will change that. Having said that Mojave gets by just fine in its "fallback OpenGL mode" for most uses.

Has anyone had any luck getting the built in iSight webcam to work on Mojave with a Macbook5,2? This is the weird one that doesn't do trackpad gestures correctly, so I know it's a weird one but just curious. I thought I read somewhere that it just would not work, but can't find where I saw that at.

I have iSight (FaceTime) running on a MB5,2 with 10.14.5 Mojave.
As on most unsupported machines, its a game of luck. I also had phases in between (with various Mojave builds) where I could not get it working. Try to re-apply the patches from the patch updater tool, even if it tells "all up to date". Might help in such cases.
Talking about weird machines: The topmost one in this category is currently the MB4,1. No luck with iSight there, never figured it out there. Same trackpad behaviour as on MB5,2 btw.

Mine is working following @dosdude1 last patcher release. It works in Mojave and High Sierra, didn't work previously in neither system

Hello,

Could you share alls screenshots related to "Parametrage ventilateur" in iStatMenus ?
I mean what RPM you choose for others "Moyen", "Elevé", "Haut" and "Maxi" ?
Thank you

Netkas patched 10.14.5 AMD Metal drivers to work with MP3,1, emulating the SSE4.2 instruction needed by the driver.

http://forum.netkas.org/index.php/topic,13890.0.html

This should be a nice addition for Mojave Patcher cc @dosdude1

This is a good news, but I don't understand some steps, he wrote:
"Since 10.14.5 (or maybe earlier) sse4.2 bits disappearedfrom opengl driver"

Penryn Core2Duos are SSE4.1 and they continued to work with OpenGL acceleration using the .3 non-metal frameworks and the other known patches.

Any Mac pre-2012 with i5/i7 cpu (and MP "Nehalem") do have the SSE4.2 instruction, but AMD/ATI cards higher than 4xxx series don't load non-metal acceleration driver.

AMD RX560 should be a Metal GPU, so I guess it requires only from MP3,1 cpu to emulate the SSE4.2 .

Is the SSE4.2 instruction required check inside the AMD GPU Chip too ?

AMD GCN GPUs are officially supported by Mojave, it's the AMD Metal driver, AMDMTLBronzeDriver, that requires the PCMPGTQ instruction.

That's why MP3,1 don't work with any AMD GCN GPUs anymore.

So netkas patch is only for "pre-Nehalem/Penryn cpu" with an AMD Metal GPU, right ?

I don't know much, but reading here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphics_Core_Next
I understood a bit.

But I still don't understand this sentence: "Since 10.14.5 (or maybe earlier) sse4.2 bits disappearedfrom opengl driver"
