I downloaded dosdude1's Mojave patcher v1.3.7 yesterday. In the Patcher app, tried to download a copy of Mojave using "Tools => Download macOS Mojave..." menu item. The download was about 6.5GB but when finished was only a 22Mb stub. I tried again but the download was v15.2.02 of the Catalina install.

Is this a 1/1/2020 issue ?

Anyway, I had an old copy of Mojave 10.14.6 downloaded in September, so installed that (after much fiddling with the system date). I also installed the software update patch.

Now I can't install the Mojave 10.14.6 Security Update 2019-002. I downloaded a copy and tried to install directly but got an error: "This software is not supported on your system".

Is there a direct link available to the latest Mojave installer ?

Thanks.

Hi @GarryB
In order to install SecUpd2019-002Mojave, you must expand the .pkg file and then modify the "distribution" file.
Like this:
Move "SecUpd2019-002Mojave.pkg" file to the desktop
Open Terminal and writes this:
Code:
cd ~/Desktop

Press enter

Code:
pkgutil --expand SecUpd2019-002Mojave.pkg NewFolder

Press enter

Wait a few minutes
Go to the "NewFolder" folder created on your desktop and open the "Distribution" file with a text editor

Add: return true;
at the end of this line: function InstallationCheck(prefix) {

Like this: function InstallationCheck(prefix) {return true;

Add: return true;
at the end of this line: function VolumeCheck(prefix) {

Like this: function VolumeCheck(prefix) {return true;

Save the file

If you have not closed the terminal, write or simply copy this:
Code:
pkgutil --flatten NewFolder SecUpd2019-002MojaveModified.pkg

Press enter and wait a few minutes for the package to re-create

But if you closed the terminal, re-open it and writes this:
Code:
cd ~/Desktop

Press enter

Code:
pkgutil --flatten NewFolder SecUpd2019-002MojaveModified.pkg

Press enter and wait a few minutes for the package to re-create

Once the operation is completed, launch the file "SecUpd2019-002MojaveModified.pkg" The message "This software is not supported on your system" should no longer appear and the update should install.

Be careful if you have several OS on more disks/partitions in your mac because these modifications make it possible to install this update on any OS disk/partition.
AT THE BEGINNING OF THE INSTALLATION BE CAREFUL TO CHOOSE THE DISK/PARTITION OF MOJAVE AND NO OTHER.

I didn't think this process was necessary anymore. I installed the security update directly from the App Store (or Sys Prefs, can't remember which).

Is this required because he used an older version, or should I note to this for when I decide to do this to my MB 5,1?

As I understand first return true bypasses the supported machines check, second true is needed to install on HFS+ volumes.

Whoa, losing HFS+ is the reason I've neglected to update. My machine seems laggy with APFS with my SSD. So I can keep my HFS+ and still have a proper working mojave that can... One way or another, update?

This is great news.
I haven't read through all 700+ pages on this, so pointing that out helps. Thank you.

Interesting. My machine's been fine with my new SSD and APFS - and quieter. Have you looked at Activity Monitor to see if there's anything obvious slowing it down?

I'd forgotten that you need to be on APFS to be able to install updates directly, without faffing around with the installer.

Hi Everyone,

I am attempting to install Mojave on an Early 2009 Mac Mini 3,1 (Nvidia GeForce 9400m 256mb, 8GB Ram) with a clean install of the dosdude1 patched High Sierra OS on a HFS+ HDD. I had no issues with installing High Sierra with dosdude1 patcher tool, but I am having no luck with installing Mojave and could use some assistance.

After resetting SMC and PRAM and attempting to boot the USB drive in verbose mode, I am getting stuck at PCI Configuration Begin. I have tried with both an installer downloaded directly from the dosdude1 patcher tool and also an older version of Mojave 10.14.1 and same result. I have also tried multiple USB drives and same result.

Are there methods to get around this issue with additional boot args or booting from single user mode?

If so what are the boot args and / or steps?

Is this an issue with the graphics version for this machine?

I have read on this thread of other Mac Mini 3,1 installs so hoping I can get some assistance on how to further troubleshoot and install Mojave. Thank you.

Mojave 10.14.6 (18G2022) is installed in HFS+ on SSD in my MBP5.3.
I installed 10.14.6 (18G84) in July and I carried out the successive updates manually as they become available (18G87, 18G95 and 18G103) by recreating at each time an installation USB flash drive with dosdude1's Patcher.
Regarding (18G1012 and 18G2022) wich are SecUpd2019-001 and SecUpd2019-002 I was forced to modify the distribution file in order to install these 2 updates.
I had some slowness after installing 18G95 and then 18G2022 which I solved with the excellent Onyx utility. I now have a Mojave that works stably on HFS+.

EDIT:
Do not forget to restart on USB drive and reapply Postinstall with Force Cache rebuild after update

Maybe I'll just do the upgrade after converting my High Sierra over to APFS. It's gotta get done eventually anyways.

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I was thinking about putting mojave back onto my 5,2. Has anyone came up with a fix for the trackpad? I did look through briefly and solutions I found through the search function didn't work. I have personally tried replacing the related kexts with kexts from El Capitan, with no luck. I figured it wouldn't hurt to try it. Not a deal breaker as this machine is just a cool old laptop, and El Cap is just fine for now.

So I am going to install Mojave on my MB 5,1 with HFS+. If all goes to hell in a hand basket, oh well... Regarding future update, what do you mean by modifying the distribution file?

I'll check out Onyx. I've heard of it and others like it, just never bothered checking it out.

I figured out what you meant, but I couldn't get past the update. All is well, I will give the APFS a try and see what happens.

Crash and burned with Mojave on the updates. Actually, went back to El Capitan to get my camera working, but also due to some weird booting issue while on High Sierra where it would restart twice after selecting restart from the menu.

Would the legacy graphics patch allow the installation of Mojave on a Mac Pro with a Tesla C2070 as its GPU?

Can anyone with Mac Pro 3,1 advice if you have problems editing Live Photos in the Photos app (v4.0) on Mac Pro 3,1 using Mojave.

My setup is Mac Pro 3,1 12GB RAM, Mojave 10.14.6, GeForce 680 2GB Ram.

Never had this problem with El Capitan but since clean install of Mojave formatted to APFS Photos just crashes as soon as I click the 'edit' button when trying to edit 'Live' Photos. No problems editing normal (non-live photos). I also did another clean install using HFS+ but still the same problem.

I assumed that my library had some kind of corruption so I took the extreme measure to subscribe to iCloud just so I can upload my full 1.5TB of photos (took a month!) to iCloud and then re-downloaded the Photos library to my Mac Pro on a freshly formatted drive but unfortunately I still have the same problem...ie. the Photos app just quit when I click the edit button when dealing with a 'live' photo.

As it is a clean install I suspect this may be a problem with all Mac Pro 3,1 using Mojave as it is not formally supported.

Any opinions? Thx!

If you go to the Catalina for unsupported Mac type jackluke and iMovie he posted a older version the new version requires metal which our gpu’s don’t support

Hello there,
I've got a problem on my MBP mid 2009, 18G2022.
When I close the tab, it doesn't awake anymore and I have to restart.
And every third time it doesn't shut down and have to press the power button.
Any ideas?

Hi,
Yes @TimothyR734 is right, iMovie 10.1.13 uses "Metal" and our card does not support it so iMovie crash. @jackluke found the link of the old version of iMovie 10.1.12.pkg that works (message #6,261)

If iMovie 10.1.13 has been updated via the App Store:
After installing the old iMovie version 10.1.12 do not forget to hide this purchase on App Store... so that the app no longer updates

Open App Store > (1) Find Profile name (Bottom Left corner) > “Hover on App” > (2) Click on “More option” (three dot) > (3) Click on “Hide purchase

Capture d’écran 2020-01-12 à 22.43.12.png
If the update is indicated by a red badge on the App Store icon and on the System Preferences icon in the Dock before you have hidden the purchase, here is how to remove these red badges:
Open "Terminal" and write these commands:
Code:
defaults write com.apple.appstore appStoreBadgeCount 0;
defaults write com.apple.appstored BadgeCount 0;
killall Dock;

Hello. Yes, same setup here with HFS+, same crash with Photos app.
2 suggestions 1 try creating a smart album name it photos 2 drag a photo into it and try editing it or you might look on pirate bay for iphoto The last version that was released as it does work in Mojave and still links to iCloud I use it in Catalina even though it won’t link to iCloud in Catalina

Thanks for the suggestion about the smart album but it does not work as the dragged photo is still 'live' so it crashes. I think I will just live with it as the old iPhotos is not good for me.
