Thanks! That's what I thought. I did use CCC. I'll try zapping the pram again and anything else applicable.

Latest update installed without problems on Macbook Late 2008. After the update I installed the Dosdode1 post patch via the usb stick and rebuilt the cache.

Re. my earlier post about reapplying the 2020-001: everything went quite well, but I have several questions. First, whenever I've installed one of these updates, automatically from SU or now manually, after the restart I always get a KP. This means doing a hard shutdown and booting immediately to the USB Patcher to reapply patches (iMac 10,1). I'm wondering If there's any way to avoid the KP?

Since everything occurring during the manual (from the standalone) was much more transparent, at least as compared to the automatic, I was tempted to skip the restart -- perhaps from an option boot at the restart chime? -- and try to boot directly to the patcher at the restart, if that's even possible. (Didn't because most likely the restart is needed to finish up the installation.) Is this something I should even entertain trying, in order to perhaps avoid the KP?

Second, any time I do one of these updates the patcher updater suggests I install "SUVMMFaker.dylib by Czo"

Doesn't seem it applies to my situation, since I'm installing a security update, not a 10.14 new release, and I don't have a MacBook Pro, or anything with the T2 security chip. So wondering if I should just skip it, even though it says "available for this model?"

I had the same KP. I presume, after the security/system update, you can boot straight into the patcher immediately - as long as you have that device connected, if it lives externally - using the option-boot thing. It never occurred to me that the update could overwrite the patches to the point where it won't even boot - but I guess that's what happened this time.

Successfully updated macOS to the latest macOS 10.14.6 (18G3020) which installed the latest Security Update, Safari and Safari Technology Preview on my 17" Early 2008 MacBook Pro MBP4,1

I ran Software Update, rebooted from my macOS Mojave Patcher USB SSD, reapplied DosDude1's macOS Mojave patches including Force Cache Rebuild... AND then DosDude1's Backlight Patch bkltpatch10.14.2

Yes it takes a couple of restarts but simply AMAZING this 12 year old MacBook Pro can run a current macOS !!!

Thanks again DosDude1 !!!

My only wish is macOS Mojave Patcher would re-apply DosDude1's Backlight Patch bkltpatch10.14.2 during it's patching... instead of having to re-apply using Terminal each time. Oh well... Maybe someday.

So you think it's possible to option-boot directly to the patcher at the (manual) installer restart ? And that won't short circuit anything the installer needs to finish?

Any idea about the Czo SUVMMFaker.dylib patch -- screenshot above? Needed or not?

Well, I don't know for sure because I don't think I've ever tried it but I don't see why you couldn't boot straight into the patcher - as long as it's on a connected volume, of course. Regarding the installer needing to finish something - if you think about it, it's KPing so may not be doing any "finishing up" anyway. Not sure what it does on the first execution of an updated system - re-index the drive, rebuild caches? I think it would do that anyway, after re-installing patches.

Sorry, but I don't know anything about Czo's patch.

Well, with a trusted backup (or two) at the ready might give it a shot next time. EDIT: remember now that the progress bar shows from start to finish at the restart, as if it were getting ready to boot normally, but then goes into the KP when done.

So what are peoples thoughts on this?

So I am still confused. Can I use the GTX 680 on a MP3,1 with Mojave (w/ metal) or no and if no what GPU would I need to acquire?

Hey @dosdude1, as a graphics wizz, any idea why the MacBook Pro late 2008 (5,1) won't sleep correctly when set to Better Battery Life (which I presume means using the integrated graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9400M)? It sleeps perfectly well when set to Higher Performance (presumably the discrete NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT).

Using better battery life, it correctly activates the screensaver and then display sleep at the correct time. The LED comes on steady, but it never enters "real" sleep i.e. the LED never gets to the pulsing stage. When in the steady LED phase it can't be woken up. It'll then reboot - I guess after 3mins or thereabouts, because the error is the crash log is a 180sec timeout in transitioning to darkwake on the way to sleep.

It works perfectly well with Higher Performace graphics. I had this very same problem after the previous security update, but something I did made it work again. After this latest security update, no such luck.

Incidentally, the Higher Performance graphics makes the fans go nuts, so I'd prefer to have it set to Better Battery Life.

@ dosdude1

Also while you're around these parts, do I really need to install SUVMMFaker.dylib by Czo, screenshot above? Doesn't seem to be a fit for my iMac 10,1 + no more 10.14 releases expected. Cutting down on the number of restarts after one of these security updates, which are time consuming, would be welcome.

Plus what do you think about interrupting the installer (manual) restart with an option-boot to the patcher, to avoid the inevitable KP, as described above?

Worryingly, I had a KP this morning. This is the first KP I've ever had when just doing normal things i.e. not sleep related. I was just browsing the BBC news website using Chrome. Again, according to the crash log, it was graphics related so this latest security update, and/or the graphics patches, has not gone well for me. If there was an easy way to undo the latest security update I'd seriously consider doing so. Either that or I'll go back to Better battery life and set display sleep to never (not ideal). BTW, this is with my graphics set to Higher Performance. Here's the crash log in case someone's interested

Hi Guys, another MacBook 13.3" late 2008 in Mojave 10.14.6 using HFS+ working 100%.

Macbook Late 2008 13,3" (5.1)
Intel Core2Duo 2Ghz
nvidia 9400M 256Mb
SSD 256Gb
8Gb Ram

Problem With Trackpad!, only detected as mouse, but.... SOLVED!

For anyone with problems with the trackpad, you can use your Trackpad Pref File from another yosemite installation (/System/Library/PreferncePanes). Just replace and reboot.

The only problem its with the color of the Tracpad Preference panel, this dont have "Dark Mode", but.. this is not a problem.

Hope this can help someone. Thanks to everybody.

Link to download Trackpad Pref Panel from my yosemite Installation:

Hello, I have a problem after the 2020 security update. My second screen is no longer detected at startup. I use a GTX 680. Everything works good before this 2020 update…
I have reinstalled all the patches (1.3.7)… help :)

Just a quick update on my issues with the 2020 sec update - if for no-one's benefit but me!

I've gone back to Better battery life and set my sleep times to never. I have my screensaver activate after 3mins. I made a pleasant discovery though: when I choose sleep from the apple menu, it sleeps correctly. So that's what I do at night, or if I know I'm going to be away for a while. No more ramping up of the fans. At some point I'll see if the auto sleep has fixed itself.

Hello, I have a problem after the 2020 security update. My second screen is no longer detected at startup. I use a GTX 680. Everything works good before this 2020 update…
I have reinstalled all the patches (1.3.7)… help :)

I update my macbook late 2008 with nvidia 9400M to the security update (01-2020) and the screen now its a 21 inches screen, in the previous version (10.14.6 - base) the screen its correctly detected (lcd screen), but now i have this problem, maybe something with the nvidia graphics?

I loose my sound too :(

Im gona test some drivers.

Seems like this security update caused a number of graphics related issues.

I run the patch updater again from desktop and reinstall all patches.... and all works again perfect!. Even the trackpad mod.

Try it @philk34

I use yosemite for the last years, and in yosemite my macbook late 2008 works in temps like 50-60 normal use, and 70-80 hard use, but with mojave i have 70-80 normal use, and 80-90 hard use.... but i think this is inevitable...

Thank you Punteillos . Done as you say but always the same.
I recreated an installation key with the DosDude1 patch then reinstall the patch, always the same, moreover the dock is slow… I think there is a patch problem that does not pass or install. Ah also at the end of post install and reboot, it restarts on the patch key and not the hard drive. I hope to be clear :). My SSD is APFS format

Tested and working 100%. All original features Works Perfect.

This is very strange. I've never had any issues with the trackpad on my MacBook5,1. I believe it is the MacBook5,2 that has the issue as it has a retro trackpad with the button a la mouse.

Hi @dosdude1 @ASentientBot !

If I'm off topic here, I anticipately sorry, please move my question on the right place.

I have succesfully installed macOS Mojave 10.14.6 on a Core i7-860, Asus P7P55D and Nvidia Quadro 2000 PC with Clover bootloader (it starts from an USB pendrive) using DVI connection. All works fine, but the resolution of my TVMonitor LG M2352D is stucked at 1280x1024 4:3. With Windows 10 the display works fine 1920x1080 @60 Hz, so I have tried SwitchResX4 and some EDID editors (exporting the right EDID from Windows) unsuccesfully. Then I have found your "Fix old Nvidia cards V1" patch, (Nvidia web drivers are available until 10.13) It installs correctly, but nothing happens after rebooting. The only workaround that I have found for the correct ratio is to force the display to 4:3.

I attach the right LG EDID extracted from Windows 10. Any idea for how to fix my issue? Thank you, Alex

Me too - Go Back to 10.4.6 (18G103) with clean install. Works fine :).
Careful with last security update 2020 MP 3.1

How is the display connected? Probably Single Link DVI to HDMI? If so, you could try using a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. There's two kinds - passive and active. Passive requires that the DisplayPort output supports DisplayPort dual mode (does the Quadro have that?). Active might be better in your case sense the GPU will send a DisplayPort signal instead of HDMI. You can get a DisplayPort 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 adapter (but your TV only needs HDMI 1.x) which are always active.

https://www.club-3d.com/en/detail/2465/ CAC-1082 DP 1.4 cable to hdmi 2.0b active adapter 2m

The Quadro 2000 is a Kepler generation GPU so it should work in latest macOS?
