Just to clarify, on your HFS+ Mojave installation, you were able to run the latest Supplemental Update directly via Software Update, after installing Security Update 2020-005 via the usual HFS+ package modification?

I ask because I'm about to upgrade from High Sierra to Mojave on my HFS+ system, which I want to leave on HFS+ so I can access the volume when I boot into Linux.
Yes that is exactly what I am saying.

You need iMovie 10.1.12

After struggling with Catalina, I was able to get success with using Mojave on this old Mac. First, I have a 1Tb SSD, 6GB memory and a OSXWiFi - iMac 2007 iMac 2008 Broadcom BCM94360CD - 802.11 A/B/G/N/AC Bluetooth 4.0 airport card installed. I installed the Intel Core 2 Duo T9500. The graphics card is the native ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB. Watch unlock, airdrop and handoff all work well. The system is highly useable.

Under Catalina Apple TV worked superbly. Youtube and Quicktime videos run flawlessly and smooth. Internet downloads are respectfully quick.

Under Catalina, watch unlock didn't work and I could not get iMovie and Microsoft Teams to work. Under Mojave, Teams works perfectly but iMovie, although it does load and works well, the preview screen is black. I have done all sorts of different image types.

What do I need to do?

iMac 7,1
6Gb
1Tb SSD
Mac OS Mojave 10.14.6
iMovie 10.1.14

After having upgraded to 10.14.6, I have lost Bluetooth: It appears neither in the System Report nor in System Preferences – it is as if the hardware is not there at all.

iMac 21.5" Late 2009, 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo; NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB; 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD.

I initially installed 10.14.5 using DosDude1's patcher, and experienced no problem what so ever.
I then proceeded to install the 10.14.6 and Supplement Update, rebooting and reapplying patches.
The system booted, and as noted above Bluetooth was completely gone.

If I do a clean reinstall of 10.14.5, Bluetooth is restored.

If I do a clean reinstall of 10.14.6, Bluetooth is present in the Installer, but gone afterwards.

I have reapplied patches, and I have performed P RAM resets.

EDIT: (·̿Ĺ̯·̿ ̿). A few hours later of the machine just running 10.14.6, Bluetooth has reappeared and is fully functional. How odd.

I have updated the Zoom patch for non-Metal video cards to work with the latest Zoom versions. If you have been having a no video issue after updating Zoom, this patch should take care of that. Just download the attached script, extract, and run.

I got an Error while patching my Mac Pro 3,1's ROM with the APFS ROM Patcher Tool.

I removed all extra devices and all Harddrives except the system drive in Bay 2 and the nvidia gtx 680 gpu. I turned of SIP, in case this would be necessary.

Turned the Mac in ROM-Programming Mode, got the beep after rapidly flashing LED, started the ROM-Patcher-Tool and got the attached Error Message after dumping the actual ROM:

apfsrompatcher.jpg

I can restart the Mac without Problems. I also repeated the procedure. Same result...

My current BOOT-ROM-Version is MP31.006C.B05 as recommended by Apple here.

Edit: Current OS Version OS X El Capitan (10.11.6).

EDIT2: It depends on the OS Version! At least High Sierra is necessary to get the APFS ROM Patcher working!

I wanted to start an upgrade (clean install) on my MP 3,1 w GTX 680 from El Capitan to Mojave. El Capitan is Running on Sonnett PCIe Card with 2 SSDs in RAID 1.

1. Are there know issues with the sonnett pcie adapter?

2. I downloaded the FirmwareUpdate.pkg and installed the tool to get native apfs boot support, but i can't find any file/program on the HD to execute. What am I doing wrong?

I have a MP 3,1 with Sonnet Tempo 512GB PCIE 3.0 with GTX 680 and upgraded from El Capitan to Mojave last year and works fantastic. Decided not to use APFS as didn't want auto update as some updates broke the Mojave on my 3,1. Using Mojave 10.14.6 18G103

H All,
I'm hoping you can help me, as you did earlier with a similar problem.

iMac 9,1 early 2009 formatted APFS
Have been running Mojave successfully, with full keyboard brightness control, after using DosDude's patcher, and your instructions to install the BkltPatch 10.14.2 (I'm not exactly a pro at using Terminal, and you really helped by giving me step by step instructions on installing BkltPatch a year or so ago).

Anyway, after installing Security update "macOS 10.14.6 Supplemental Update", along with "Security Update 2020-005," (via Software Update control panel, and then running DosDude's Mojave post install, forced rebuild, and patch installs, it appeared to update successfully. About this Mac System info says: macOS 10.14.6 (18G6032)

However, I lost the use of my keyboard to control the brightness. Pushing the keyboard "up" or "down" brightness button does work, but only momentarily.

So, I followed your earlier instructions to use Terminal to install BkltPatch 10.14.2, but that did not work after several attempts.

Do you have some suggestions for how I can get my brightness buttons to work again, and if so, would you please explain in simple terms since I am basically a novice at Terminal?

Thanks so much!
Bill

Hi Trifero, thank you for your reply. Can you remember which hardware-configuration you used while patching and which OS you used to do it?

For my next attempt I did a PRAM-reset put in the harddrive in Bay 1, put in the default gpu (ATI Radeon 5770) and I am considering installing High Sierra first with the High Sierra-Patcher to run the APFS-ROM-Patcher in High Sierra, whereas I think this can't be the Problem. I will report my progress ?

Try posting to a thread related to your issue or creating a new one.

I appreciate your advice. As ROM-patching is related to installing Mojave/ Catalina on an unsupported mac, and dosdude1 has written the APFS ROM Patcher Tool and is the threadstarter, I thought this is the perfect place for my question. Maybe I should write him an email, but I hoped that anybody here ran in the same problem with the same mac and found a solution...

I initially thought that a post elsewhere might give you a wider audience and better responses but you make good points.
Probably not a good idea to send an email to DosDude as he must be getting a lot.

I ran the patch on my cMP 3,1 without issue but note that the process is risky and can damage your machine if you have the wrong chipset. The error message might be a safety net included to stop such damage when possible unless you are sure you are on the required Intel Chipset.

Ok. I'll try it in High Sierra or Mojave. And do you have the same Boot-ROM-Version and SMC-Version as me? You'll find it in System Report (ALT-Click on the Apple-Sign-> System Information)

Can You also check your Boot-ROM-Version and SMC-Version, if it's similar to mine. I'm sure, if got the required Intel Chipset:

Can you also check, if it's the same at your MP 3,1.
Thank you.

SMC and Boot ROM are reporting the same as yours and your ChipSet is same Intel one I have, so it should work.
I believe I was already on Mojave (HiSierra at least) when I applied the ROM Patch. Not sure whether OS makes a difference.

I solved the Problem. It depends on the OS. I installed High Sierra, started the APFS ROM Patcher in Firmware Programming Mode and had success:
success.png
rom patcher.png

After shutting down I put in my Sonnet Tempo SATA3 PCIe Controller with the El Capitan system volume on it, the gtx 680 gpu. Everything worked well.

Then I installed Mojave. After rebooting it repeatedly bootet the drive on the sonnet tempo as default also when I choose the EFI-Partition on the APFS Drive with the Mojave Installation. After passing the APFS custom booting method installed by the post-install tool it restarted the El Capitan volume on the sonnet tempo adapter. But after holding ALT during the boot process and choosing the MOJAVE APFS Volume directly it booted natively into MOJAVE. I'm actually writing from a natively booted MOJAVE installation on an APFS Volume.

The only issue was related to bluetooth. The installer volume didn't recognize my magic mouse after rebooting it for the post-install routine. I had to find my old usb apple mouse to get it running. Then I had to reconnect the magic mouse in the bluetooth settings on the fresh MOJAVE installation and it worked again.

Surprisingly I didn't need to reinstall DosDude1's bkltpatch10.14.2... which I usually have to do after every macOS Mojave update. This made it the EASIEST update ever!
