Well, I made a clean install of Mojave on my 3,1 using the patch and it's running very nicely so far. One thing though, I didn't install the AMD Metal Driver SSE4.2 Emulation layer, because I'm using an Nvidia card. But every time I boot, the Patch Updater prompts me to install it. Is there a way to disable this?

I've got an old late 2011 MBP that can natively support HS. Would Mojave run better on it with the patch or should I stick with HS? I'm planning on upgrading to a SSD and 8Gb of RAM also.
The only real issue with High Sierra is that it has been officially depreciated by Apple. No more Supplemental or numbered Security Updates. XProtect and MRT auto updates will continue, however.

The G103 full-installer can be D/L and built with MDS or gibMacOS-master. It's item #13 on the Available Products listing. SilentKnight set the proper order to update everything without drama.
Thanks for the info. I have a DD1 "Patched" Mojave 18G103 USB that I have used for all my installs. And I love SilentKnight. I've read that you can install 2020-007 on it's own without all the previous SUs.

Any news ? Today I tried to install Mojave on my Mac Pro 3,1 (instead of Catalina) and I have the same problem.
Are you using the new/latest Patch Maker? I had the same problem, went to DD1s site and then saw the discussions about the new Patch Maker. I'd list the version number, but I can't remember it and I'm not near my machine. I have a 3,1 also and it works great.

SilentKnight installs everything required in proper order including 2020-007, flawlessly.

Btw, what the size of your System 10.14(Just the system files)? Mine is around 30GB, so if your partition did not have enough space to begin with, a recent doubling up of the System size(seems to affect a non-Apple 3rd party drives) is not going to help your case.
Sorry couldn't get back to this until now. Loads of extra room in that partition.

Mojave Mini Storage.png

Not sure why you suggest a "a recent doubling up of the System size(seems to affect a non-Apple 3rd party drives.)" Why would that happen? Plus don't understand "non-Apple 3rd party drives." Example maybe? And since this topic turned towards the PITA that Spotlight can be, wonder what all that has to do with Spotlight.

Btw, never paid much attention to the Storage menu before. But you put me on to this now. Didn't need the extra space on the internal, but the external clones can use it. Going through large files, found a few quite ancient and unnecessary. Makes finding large files for deletion a good bit easier.

I remember that normally Mojave system size is around 15GB. My Late 2012 iMac with its original 7200rpm HDD still has 15GB system size. My Macs with upgraded SSD’s have a system size close to 25-30GB. There is no APFS local snapshots, so the system size definitely got bigger.

If you have the discrete AMD GPU in the 2011 MBP the performance on Mojave will be terrible unless you disable the discrete GPU as it is a non-metal GPU. So if you have the discrete GPU you may find that sticking with High Sierra is a better option depending what you do with your Mac. Mojave will only get security updates for about a year longer than High Sierra (maybe even less as Big Sur was released later than usual).

You can put up to 16GB RAM in that MBP. Although Apple only ever sold it with up to 8GB (2x4GB) it can take up to 16GB (2x8GB).

I just tried using it and it installed everything to do with Safari, but nothing to do with any of the 2020-00X updates. I wish it had. It would save me a lot of trouble.

In all the years I have been using Macs, late '80s, I have never had any problems with anything like this. I use be able to do this stuff in my sleep. Now it takes so long that I fall asleep.

I'm starting with a clean install of 18G103 using DosDude1's latest installer on a 3,1....

Before re-installing check the build #, still G103?

After re-install, check the Patch Updater for new patches?

The target drive is APFS?

My MBP8,2 has a bad AMD GPU and I have permanently disabled it with the EFI fix and by removing the resistor. Mojave is running fine on the machine but there is one problem with the Photos-App. I use iCloud Photos. When I download a CR2-Raw-File from the Cloud to my MBP and try to edit the image, it gets some weird graphic errors and the image file is broken. There is no way to get the original image back. The image in the cloud is still ok. I checked that with other devices. I guess, it has something to do with the disabled GPU or the missing metal support. Interesstingly, it only happens with RAW-Files. There are no problems with JPEG or PNG.

Any ideas how to fix that problem?

Thank you! Maybe I did not describe my problem clearly. My Notebook model is MacBook Pro5,3. I installed Mojave with Dosdude1 Mojave Patcher. After creating bootable usb with Mojave Patcher, I need to start the system from the bootable usb, as soon as the GUI showing up, the mouse and the touchpad become no response, I can move the arrow cursor, but left and right click do not react, therefore, there is no way to further install Mojave to the SSD of my Notebook. I've tried the command line tool, too. using command line tool I can successfully install Mojave to my Notebook as well as those patches, but after I restart the system successfully, and I need to go through the setting process, say langauge, wifi, and so on, at this point, the mouse becomes no reaction, no response to left and right clicks. I've even tried to install Cataline patcher and got the similar mouse problem. I've googled but could not find solution.
Hope I could get help here ....... waiting for help, thanks!

Thank you again. Today I used the bootable usb start the system again, surprisingly, the mouse problem disappeared. I successfully went through the system setting part and everything went smoothly. I doubt that the mouse problem might be caused by the overheating of the notebook. yesterday, I notice that the computer was very hot.

Consider MenuMeters, iGlance or iStat to keep an eye on those temps. All are free and light on resources.

Sorry, mystery is solved. For some reason macOS includes a 12 GB Big Sur installer app when it calculates a system size.

Anyone had any problems with iCloud since installing the last security update? On a couple of occasions recently, I've had a message pop up on my MBP 2008, saying it couldn't connect to iCloud because the was a problem with <my Apple Id>. This happens out of the blue when I've been logged in for ages. It behaves as if it has logged me out of iCloud completely - and not just on this device but on my others also (iphone, ipad and another supported MBP running Mojave). This time, when I tried to log back in to iCloud it said that my account was blocked and I had to answer the security questions to log back in. Very strange and slightly worrying.

Maybe it´s related to what a I said in the previous post. I restored my backup made before the last security update and App Store runs right again.

So you're running without the latest security update at the moment?

With regard to the App Store, I quite often get failures when trying to update software. I only use free stuff like WhatsApp Desktop but the updates can fail numerous times before they eventually succeed. This has been a recent development also.

The iCloud problem seems to be fairly common (according to Google) so it's unlikely to be related to running an unsupported system. The "solutions" are the usual common ones: quit all iCloud apps, log out of iCloud and back in, restart the machine, re-install, etc. So basically, no-one knows.

You can do it while upgrading in disk utility.
So this will be nondestructive and retain files? The Mojave install won’t auto convert it for me via the install process I have to open up diskutility from the install flash drive I have booted from? Will my Mac Pro 3,1 lose startup manager when Mojave is installed?
