I have the same issue on my MacBookAir4,1 with Intel HD Graphics 3000.

One way to make current apps work with the right window size is to use EasyRes to switch between resolutions. All apps that are open during a switch will afterward pick up the correct resolution of the screen. Apps that are started fresh will have the wrong resolution until the next switch with EasyRes.

Some more testing revealed that it is user account dependent! Logging in to a different account (that is rarely used) does not have the same problems. Will therefore create a new account and migrate stuff to the new account.

I disabled AFP boot and patch installation for my Mac Pro 5,1 with updated WiFI/BLE using DosDude's 1.09 patcher. It still patches the IO802.11Family.kext. Has anybody else seen that?
I can restore it from another system before turning on SIP, but it's a pain.
I installed Cat 7 with patches disabled over a clone of my Mojave (vanilla, no patches) drive. IO802.11Family.kext is not patched in my Cat 7. Quick look at the plugins shows that the AirportBrcm4331.kext is not included in Cat 7 for me so not patched. IO802.11Family.kext is dated 19 August.

I see that I am not the only one with a problem with hard-drives. I do have two hard-drives, one on SATA, for the OS, one one on ATA. Both are invisible to the Catalina installer, only the patched Catalina sees them. I have a weird combination of connection inside the hard drive, perhaps I need to re-connect on SATA. Or maybe I have an older SATA standard?

I thought you meant a complete reinstall of the os.
Can you explain what I would need to do to upgrade when Catalina is out and there is a update for the os later? Link to a how to would enough :)

The most robust approach is to use the current Catalina Patcher release to create a new patched usb installer (with a new download of the final Catalina full installer release). Then use that to perform a standard upgrade install on your current Catalina volume. The advantage of using the patched usb installer method over software updates is that you don't have to worry about the installation prematurely terminating.

Hi sveng, see you have switched threads. Lots of knowledgeable people on here. The cMP5.1 is now an unsupported Mac although it can run Catalina without any patching. If you want to install Catalina then make a USB installer using dosdude1's patcher. Once you have this, boot from the usb and follow the instructions on the screen. As I outlined in the other thread, when making the usb installer for the cMP5.1 select the options NOT to patch post install and deselect the software APFS option. These can be found under options in the menu bar of the patcher. You can make a new Catalina drive and then migrate your details if you want. Alternatively you can just tell the updater to install over previous macOS installation - for example an earlier Catalina beta or Mojave. Your settings and data should remain intact -but always backup first!

When it comes to updating at present there is no OTA option but that is being worked on and will probably appear once Catalina is released. However, I would recommend you prepare by making a new USB patcher using the latest dosdude1 patcher so you have this as a fallback. Updating is simply booting to the usb and then install over the top of your present system. This is what I am doing at present. I keep my working copy of Mojave on a separate drive whilst taking a look at the betas. Once all seems to be stable and it is officially released then I might move onto Catalina as my main drive.

It isn't exactly true that the MacPro 5,1 doesn't require patching. Apple removed the kext plugin required for the DVD player to be found by the system.

Ok, the problem is really simple: The window size is broken when the dock is not at the bottom. Move the dock to the bottom and windows behave as expected.

When using the Patcher, do you need to do something special when macOS updates come out? Or can you just install them via Systemupdater?

Also is there a good how to for using the patcher with a Mac Pro 5.1?
Thanks!
On my Mac Pro 5,1 the beta updates do not show - presumably because the MB does not qualify.

I have to say that with Beta 7 things are really coming together on my Mac Pro 5,1. I am now switching to almost full-time use.
The Mac Pro 5,1 has been updated with Broadcom BCM94360CD and a flashed Radeon HD 7970 3 GB. The system is running FW 144.0.0.0.0
Process:
- SIP is off during install/upgrade
- NVRAM boot args set to ignore OS compatibility - boot-args="-no_compat_check"
- Using the DosDude patcher v1.0.9 for upgrade set to not update AFPS boot or do patches
- Boot to check running Catalina
- Boot into Mojave
- After the DosDude install the IO802.11 Family driver is still patched, I copy the standard version from my MacBook
- Patch the plist for IOBluetooth framework with the MB ID
- Patch the AirportBrcm4360 kext for the MB ID (not sure, it is necessary)
- Boot Catalina to check out function
- Turn on SIP on from Recovery

Everything works with SIP on including Watch unlock, which adds password unlock for the frequent security nags making life easier.

Running VMware BootCamp on a drive separate from the system disk now works.
Airfoil just came out with a version of ACE that works with Catalina. This ACE also enabled Audio Hijack and Soundsource, which have not yet been updated.

I use MonitorControl to manage my Dell U3818DW.

Dell mDP sound is not working with this card. I have not tried the kext modifications. I am not really using that sound option anyway. I have also not been able to get Lilu with Innie to work. It's not a major issue for me.

Thanks. Might have been operator error!

Not at all. All stuff remains like before. This is not Windows!
Yeah, also since this discussion is about the Macintosh. Time for people to really get out of the windows mentality and start thinking Macintosh terminology. Example, it's NOT wallpapers for the Macintosh, it's DESKTOP PICTURES. Hey, look it up under System Preferences in the pane called Desktop & Screen Saver.

Sorry for the rant, but sometimes the uninformed here gets me mad.

Imagine being mad about something like this.

It doesn't matter.

Thanks for the insight on the Dock position: this is my fault. I'm going to look into a fix when I get a chance.

I just wanted to confirm what knirk has found. As soon as a swapped the dock to the bottom (rather than left) I was able to resize all windows properly.

DVD player is recognised in Catalina with the cMP5.1. It uses SATA not PATA so does not need any kext plugin like the cMP3.1.

Neither the Activity Monitor nor the Network Utility reports accurate information on an iMac8,1.
The iMac boots into El Capitan, Mojave and Catalina. All screenshots were taken from the same iMac, suggesting that any variations are caused by the OS, not the hardware.
Activity Monitor shows the individual Processes, but no statistics. See screen shots from Catalina and from Mojave to compare.
Network Utility shows a WiFi Link speed of 5.74 Mbit/s under Catalina, compared with 130 Mbit/s under Mojave. The lower value is not correct. The ISP charges for 100 Mbit/s but usually provides between 85 Mbit/s and 115 Mbit/s. This corresponds to the actual download time of approx. 7 minutes for "Install macOS Catalina Beta", which is a 6 GB file.
The measurements were repeated over 2-3 days with several restarts and are reasonably consistent, but consistently incorrect.
Don't know if these are core Catalina issues, relate to the patched macOS version or are specific to the iMac8,1.
