Just for the records: a comparison of the Unsupported Macs threads of Mojave and Catalina.

Mojave - started 04 June 2018; got to 163 pages by 29 July 2018 and 4,075 posts
Catalina - started 03 June 2019; got to 163 pages today - 30 August 2019 and 4,073 posts, this one inclusive.

Remarkably similar number of posts, but took longer to achieve in Catalina. Seems to me that Mojave generated more enthusiasm (not statistically verified of course). So far, Mojave has 687 pages, and 17,160 posts. I wonder whether Catalina will attain such exalted heights. Time will tell.

(Classify under 'Useless Information" :))

I will try to give my explanation to the above statistics:

High Sierra was still supported by quite a few Macs - moderate enthusiasm.
Mojave saw many more Macs being dropped from the official support - huge enthusiasm.
Catalina - maintains Mojave's enthusiasm. People asking less questions because: a) Familiarity with Mojave patcher which is quickly becoming a house-hold name. b) Catalina patcher is even more intuitive and easier to use.

What machine and video card? I've heard reports of this but have not been able to replicate it on any of the machines I've been testing with.

I have the same issue on my MacBookAir4,1 with Intel HD Graphics 3000.

One way to make current apps work with the right window size is to use EasyRes to switch between resolutions. All apps that are open during a switch will afterward pick up the correct resolution of the screen. Apps that are started fresh will have the wrong resolution until the next switch with EasyRes.

Great to hear someone successfully installed on MBP 4,1. And I guess Photos are not working as well or are they.
Were you on APFS before or made complete new install and reformatting?

Photo app is working, the only remaining issue is linked to place tagging (in fact, Maps isn't working at the moment); nevertheless the system is already suitable for daily use.
Another problem is linked to the switching to APFS, because reformatting the drive is needed in order to achieve an useful conversion.

Most of third parties apps, as MS Office, are working without any issue; HTML5 videos are already completely supported in Google Chrome (and the old nVidia 8600m Gt is still capable in daily tasks).
However, I think that third parties apps performances will be improved in the next few months.

In my opinion, this seems to be a good update for our old machines (and I hope that the few issues linked to Maps and Photo geotagging will be solved with the final release; remember that when Mojave came out our machines were also cut-off from Wi-Fi).

It would be interesting to find out if this is a Sonnet specific issue or if the OWC Accelsior S sees the same regression.

Just to be clear, you're saying that the installer simply doesn't show the Sonnet card SSD as an available target drive, right? If so, I would suggest you carefully compare all the PCI related kext plugins on the basesystem volume compared to the final installed volume of DP6/DP7. Apple might have pruned out one of those kext plugins to save space on the installer. If so, it very well may disappear from the installation at some point so you should identify it in case Mojave Patcher needs to patch it back in at some point.

A quick comparison of the kext installed in /System/Library/Extensions and the associated Plugins directories doesn't seem to show anything specifically related to PCI or storage being dropped in DP7 compared to Mojave 10.14.6. I assume that external usb installs are still okay, right? It is really strange that you can still boot from the card yet the installer doesn't see it as a viable target (if I read your report correctly).

Useful to know. For now I've just been making the couple of things I use be Full Screen.

Got Catalina updated to DP7 w/ Patcher v1.0.8 on Wednesday, it went smooth on a cMP 4,1/5,1 – thanks again.

Noticed now the NightShiftUnlocker patch seems not to get applied anymore. Had it working with my LED CD in previous Betas, see #155. Tried to install the @cdf v2.2.1b version manually in Library/Extensions/Lilu.kext/Contents/Plugins like I used to do it in Mojave, works fine there but not anymore in 19A546d. Re-created the installer with v1.0.9 and ran the post install, no luck.

Other than that, no major issues except I'm missing Movie Explorer which is crashing with this build.

Edit, FYI @dosdude1 – it's back. Ran the Patcher Updater and was offered the Legacy USB Support Injector additionally. Once installed the Night Shift Patch showed up, with Re-install All and a reboot it is working now.

Another attempt to install Catalina, this time with DP7, the same issue on my Hackintosh: only with the patched installer with the dosdude1 app the Catalina installer sees the hard-drives and allow the installation to proceed, but on first boot it fails into a kernel panic with the message ”Still waiting for root device” Before installation finishes, I get a message like: ”Installation finished on Macintosh HD Data” instead of ”Installation finished on Macintosh HD”. This is probably a change in one or more kexts between Mojave and Catalina, in this case I need to find them and replace them, but I do not know how.
Another posibility is that this software combination causes confusion between Macintosh HD and Macintosh HD Data, some thing that was suppose to be in one of them ends up in the other.
Or perhaps some strange wiring inside the machine made by a PC service guy Who recommanded it causes this (something like the secondary, ATA hard-drive is a slave to the DVD-Rom, instead of the primary, SATA hard-drive).

Thank you. When I created the patcher yesterday it is still on the last Beta not the latest. Has that been fixed?

Just checked again the version downloaded from patcher a few minutes ago not the latest Beta.

That's strange. Are you sure you're using Catalina Patcher 1.1.0? It solved the problems here in downloading the 15.0.26 DP7 full installer.

I downloaded the latest directly from Dosdudes site. The Down loader didn't download the latest and neither did direct from patcher. Any ideas?

Tried another installation, on Macintosh HD Data. The same result.

Make sure you remove any "macOSDownload" directory from your Downloads folder, and ensure you delete any Catalina installer that may be there.

That can't be possible. The latest installer app version is 15.0.26. If you have that, you have the latest beta.
When I boot from the patchert and click on Install a new version of Mac OS it shows the version as (19A536g) isn't that the old version? My regular i Mac has ((19A546d) Now how do I know for sure?

When I boot from the Patcher SD card and click install a new copy OS Mac it starts to install and on the top of the second page it shows the old version. Should I not be installing from the SD? And install direct from the install OS? But when I right clicked on the file and get info in Applications it does show new version. And yes right click does show proper version.
