is your SIP disabled and is your HDD/SSD formatted APFS and yes you should create a macOS Catalina usb patcher that if you don't have the SIP disabled you can boot into the usb Catalina Patcher enter in the terminal csrutil disable and as far as I know if your HDD/SSD is not APFS you can formatted it APFS and install Catalina without having to use the APFS boot rom patcher which can be risky

cant remember if SIP is active or not. Disk formatted for AFPS with an EFI boot loader in front of it (from when I put either 10.12 or 10.13 on the machine)

Went in to EFI shell, swapped to fs0 and manually executed startup.nsh which has (thankfully) booted me back into the OS.
Going to create a USB installer and go from there. Cheers

Your suspicions where correct, I used the macOS downloader and it got DP7
The patcher downloaded DP6
What’s that all about
Probably some sort of system cache... Usually downloading it a second time will get it to work correctly. The implementation of both programs is exactly the same.

Just made some changes to the macOS Downloader implementation in Catalina Patcher, which should resolve all the weird issues of downloading older MacOS versions. Changes included in the newly-released 1.1.0 version of the tool.from dosdude1 on discord

Have now installed DP7 using @dosdude1 installer. Rebooted, ran Post installer of usb stick. Rebooted and appears to work normally … except …

only oddity so far is that I can’t resize windows properly. Can shrink & widen left / right. But can’t go up/down/diagonal. Full screen works fine. (Up kinda works, but then the Safari window shrinks to about 2 inches tall, Finder keeps snapping to the menu bar )

What machine and video card? I've heard reports of this but have not been able to replicate it on any of the machines I've been testing with.

I've been away from Mac development for a few months, but now I'm back.

Guinea Pigs Beta Testers Wanted

Some months ago, I created an SSE 4.2 emulator for the Mac Pro 3,1 (and potentially older systems as well). I didn't get to broadly test or release it before my focus had to shift elsewhere. It's been in more or less daily use here, mostly on Mojave, but it's been tested (at least briefly) on High Sierra and Catalina Beta 7. It allows newer AMD video cards to run full Metal.

It's only ever been tested on my one Mac Pro 3,1, with my one AMD RX 570 video card. I'd like to test it on a broader sample of machines/video cards before throwing it out for public use. So, if you have a Mac Pro 3,1, a newer (metal-compatible) AMD video card, and some time to spare, send me a DM/PM/Whatever-they-call-private-messages-on-this-forum and I'll send you the package. NOTE: The installer is still a work in progress, so if you're not comfortable copying files to /S/L/E and invalidating the cache, we both might be better served if you wait for the full release.

Thanks in advance. (Here's where I find out if I'm one of the last three or four MP3,1 users in existence...)

(Bonus tag for @dosdude1, since he once expressed interest in this)

Mid 2009 13” MacBookPro (MacBookPro 5,5), GFX is Nvidia 9400m 256MB

Finder now behaving itself (tried a logout of Account), but Safari and Books still mis behaving

Safari 2 inches tall, can only extend top of window but then Snaps back to size

Books 2 inches tall, shows I can extend and shrink window from the bottom but only lets me do so by a handful of pixels. Closed it, reopened and now can’t grab the bottom handles, and window snapping to menu bar.

System Preferences sometimes shows with appropriate size, other times is shrunk to only the top section with the Apple ID. Can’t scroll to see any of the options, need to use Search bar. If Safari is open, it snaps to the top of the Safari window, but not To the Finder window.

Major Issues
AMD Radeon HD 5xxx/6xxx Series Video Card Acceleration"]AMD Radeon HD 5xxx/6xxx series GPU acceleration"]
Currently, it is not possible to get full graphics acceleration when running Mojave on a system with a Radeon HD 5xxx or 6xxx series video card. Weird colors will also be produced when running Mojave with one of these video cards installed.

I just installed Catalina Beta 4 on my iMac 12,2 with a Radeon HD 6970M graphics card and I thought it was interesting that no weird colors were produced since this was the case with Mojave.

nobody knows why every time I install an update of Catalina and I run Catalina Patcher and I reconstruct cache delete prelinkedkernel from my system and I end up installing complete Catalina because never booting and because delete prelinkedkernel / prelinkedkernel force rebuild cache with dosdude patcher

It would be nice if the same changes could be back ported to a 1.3.4 release of Mojave Patcher so that the latest copy of 10.14.6 with the second supplemental update (14.6.04) would always download.

It will be.

Just for the records: a comparison of the Unsupported Macs threads of Mojave and Catalina.

Mojave - started 04 June 2018; got to 163 pages by 29 July 2018 and 4,075 posts
Catalina - started 03 June 2019; got to 163 pages today - 30 August 2019 and 4,073 posts, this one inclusive.

Remarkably similar number of posts, but took longer to achieve in Catalina. Seems to me that Mojave generated more enthusiasm (not statistically verified of course). So far, Mojave has 687 pages, and 17,160 posts. I wonder whether Catalina will attain such exalted heights. Time will tell.

(Classify under 'Useless Information" :))

What’s that all about
Used the latest patcher (1.1.0) and prior to creating the usb installer I started the Catalina installer to see what build number was being installed (15A546B), created the installer using the latest patcher and booted from it. When the installer started it said it was installing (15A356g) yet when I got to the desktop about this Mac said (15A546B)
Wierd
