Having issues with upgrading my 10.14.6 MP4,1 / 5,1 system. All previous Patchers have been successful with no issues. During install from thumb drive, will get to the point in the screenshot and then restart - photo captures the spinning 'restart' wheel. System hangs and cursor disappears right before it does this. System will then boot normally back in 10.14.6.

I've downloaded the patcher and the installer, tried multiple ways to install (to this machine) and have this same exact issue every time.

I haven't seen this particular issue covered before, so I may have a novel issue.

Thanks for all the work, dosdude! Will be sending in a donation after this gets squared away.

Has anybody played with patching Platform.plist?
In the past it obviated the need for the NVRAM argument. This would be helpful on a NVRAM Reset for another reasons.
If you're referring to PlatformSupport.plist, patching it is never necessary. You can set the -no_compat_check argument in com.apple.Boot.plist on the Preboot volume. (I assume this is how the automated patchers work, but I haven't checked.)

you are running a very old bootrom version, I would advise you to update that one first of all.
Install MacOS Mojave, and run latest updates.

there is no other way to make that GTX680 to work.
There are no nvidia web drivers anymore since MacOS Mojave.

So nvidia kepler cards are using built-in MacOS drivers..

No webdrivers means no CUDA support anymore atm unfortunately..
let's hope web drivers will be there again in the future, who knows...

Brilliant will try on my Mac Pro 3,1 within an hour. But any idea how I should upgrade? Since I don't have visuals as I'm using a non Mac EFI boot screen card. Usually I would use my ssd as external and update through my MacBook Pro. Do any of you have a better idea on how I should proceed? I've updated my MacBook Pro 7,2 to Catalina and it's working fantastic anyways.

just use startup disk selector within system preferences, you then select your Catalina installer usbstick/partition.

Are you running a GTX680 ?
Why not flash its bios then, it's very easy to get a EFI bootscreen on these cards..

Actually the idea was to avoid the need for NVRAM bootargs in case an NVRAM reset was required.
I tried it and there are now more checks. Replacing the platforms.plist is not enough.

No I'm running on GT730. I don't think there's available EFI for this card specifically to my knowledge.

Brilliant do I need to apply Mac Pro 3,1 patches onto it? Since I will be running it on the Mac Pro even though updating it through the MacBook Pro. All I know it will automatically put MBP 7,2 patches on to it since it's upgraded through MBP. I hope you'd understand what I'm trying to say. Thank you so much you've been of great help.

just disable SIP, and make a dosdude1 catalina patched usb stick.
The dosdude1 catalina patcher should do all the patches for your while installing..

Hi there,

Trying to do a test install on a Mac Pro 5,1 using DosDude's patcher v1.16. Got this error twice - once from external HDD and once from USB drive. Any ideas??

Thanks.
try downloading macOS Catalina again
[automerge]1570554776[/automerge]
I have for example Magnet buyed on appstore in mojave , but in Catalina it says i must buy it once again ... And the appstore Will let me buy it again but in mojave it Will install without buying again ... I guess Apple did something
Maybe try signing out of the account for the App Store and sign back in I know there are ways to reset the App Store but I don't remember how to

Hi everyone, check. First of all thanks to dosdude1 for the great work!
My question is that I am installing Catalina on an iMAC 10.1 but after installing the system, it does not start or the unit does not recognize me.
I have the partition in APFS, is it correct?

regards!

I came from Mojave and now my Catalina Spelling and Grammar don't work well in some apps, I notice in Tweetbot, because now it doesn't change the words or give options for a word.

Kudos to dosdude for making the patcher.

I wonder what will be with future Catalina updates on unsupported machines.
Will they be advertised in System Preferences or will they be ignored because the hardware is officially unsupported?
Will we need another patcher for each subsequent update?

Downloaded and installed the final Catalina using the dosdude1 app. On the Eula, I so beta conditions, although this is the final Catalina. Also I have noticed that the OS was signed into the beta program, meaning that it was suppose to receive the pb builds of updates of Catalina. I have signed out of it. What is going on?

any ideas?
After installing zero Catalina with a USB pendrive, I re-enter to install Catalina and if I take out the pendrive it does not recognize the boot ...

any help? :(

Following the visual glitches I noted running VLC and Final Cut Pro, I found the reason on the VLC forum : to get back to normal with no glitches, you have to uncheck Reduce Transparency in the Accessibility Prefs Pannel. Is there another way to reduce the ugly result ??????????

@dosdude1, Regarding GPUs, my iMac 12,1 has an eGPU (GDC Beast with Radeon RX560 4GB). On your site, regarding my iMac you say that
"systems with AMD Radeon HD 5xxx and 6xxx series GPUs will be almost unusable when running Catalina"
but I'm wondering if my configuration could work. And should I install the Legacy Video Card Patch or not?
No success. I used the latest patcher with the official Catalina download and installed over High Sierra. I installed the post install patches (the legacy video one was not selected and I left it not selected). Catalina boots without any problem, but the GDC Beast is not recognized. System Profiler only sees the internal GPU, but not the RX560. If I restart with the GDC Beast ON, sometimes the GDC turns off when the boot cursor pass the apple logo, always in the same place, and the boot never completes. If I turn on the GCD after the chime, the boot procedes, but the GDC is not recognized. I don't know what to do, because with High Sierra everything worked fine. Any ideas?

Did I do something wrong? I have been seeing mention of 15.0.32, but I have 15.0.31. Picture shows process I did twice, same result both times.

maybe check to see if your date and time are correct-clear web browser history then try to redownload macOS Catalina as it is 15.0.32 same as the GM number

I just checked. I installed iMovie and another app. They do not show up in purchases.
There are people with supported Macs having this issue you might try repurchasing your apps and downloading them as this is a solution for now the App Store should remember you purchased those apps

That could be the issue your upgrading from High Sierra as there have been major changes from macOS Mojave to Catalina if GDC Beast uses any 32 bit code it will not work in Catalina macOS Mojave is the last OS that still supports 32 bit apps

Maybe try when Julian posts a updated BlueSky patch that fixes the grayish sidebars and grey menubar and might fix VLC
