macOS 10.15 Catalina on Unsupported Macs

just reinstalled macOS Catalina over your existing macOS Catalina you won't lose your apps or data

make sure you format your usb for the patcher extended journaled and its at least 16GB

make sure you erase you usb format it extended journaled or try a different 16gb usb stick

I haven't installed it from the patcher, so I can't be 100% certain, but I'm pretty sure that the "AMD Metal Driver SSE4.2 Emulation Layer" is my SSE 4.2 emulator (MouSSE) and nothing else (no other AMD-related patches). If that's the case, it should be completely transparent - if you never use any SSE4.2 instructions, it will never do anything and you'd never know it was there. It really shouldn't affect something as late as post-login processing; if it was going to be flaky, I'd expect it to happen when the kernel first loads.

If you'd like to try removing it (since you're using an nVidia card, it's probably not doing anything useful for you anyway), open a terminal window and try the following:
  1. sudo mount -uw /
  2. cd /System/Library/Extensions
  3. sudo rm -rf AAAMouSSE.kext
  4. cd /
  5. sudo kextcache -i /
Then reboot to see if anything changed. (I'm not sure how @dosdude1's patcher keeps track of installed patches, so the patch updater might nag you about the missing kext. If so, he might be able to suggest a cleaner method of permanent removal.)

Do let me know if removing MouSSE helped the problem. I'm not sure how I'd proceed to debug in that scenario, though...

Can I install and run the iOS 13 on my iPhone 6 Plus using similar ways? Or, are there any other ways to do that?

Strange issue here.

MacBookPro8,2 and MacBookAir and iMac all running Catalina.
iPhone X, XS and iPadPro running ios12.

Now i do not get handoff/continuity in Safari between catalina machines and ios12devices. eg. on the iphone X i can see the tabs from the XS and the iPad - but I cannot see the tabs from the catalina machines. On the catalina machines I can only see the tabs from the other catalina machines. eg. tabs from the Air and iMac on the MackBookPro.

Tried to log out andback in on all devices, tried to disable safari icloud sync, then re-enable it. I do have the continuity patched file on the catalina's.

Any ideas ?

The only thing I didn't try was using a Bluetooth 4.0 usb dongle, I was testing using the built-in bluetooth on the MacBook.

Did you ever get Airdrop working on 8,1. I have followed the instructions but AirDrop won't see anyone my my MacBook Pro unless I can see them on my phone. Then I can select any file and make the transfer.

I had a similar issue and had to close all tabs on all devices, then it started to work after that.

the only way you lose files is if you ssd is corrupted or you do a clean install and for Catalina to run your ssd has to be formatted APFS

For those wanting to update to 10.15.1 I would hold off until a new Catalina Patcher is out with a fixed Skylight as it has been causing crashes like audio, Notification Center etc
 
Hi everyone
I have Catalina 10.15.0 on my MacBook Air mid 2011 with airdrop patch and bluesky
so the question is: if I want update to 10.15.1 then have to reinstall all of this patch?

Finally ran all sh commands for Airdrop as well as handoff , logged out/in to apple ID and now all is working perfect. Only loss is Airplay since graphics card does not support Metal. (SAD).

Is there a step by step tutorial to activate Continuity on Catalina? There was Continuity Activation Tool, but it is not working anymore, and is no longer being updated.
 
I’m up to the latest everything (reinstalled a couple times) and Maps still doesn’t work right, Photos says my library was created with a newer version which makes no sense, and Firefox crashes on launch... none of which are listed under “known issues”... so is it me?

Sounds like a clean install may help in your case.

I can say that by testing the link above "AirDrop Catalina MacBook7,1 and MacBookPro6,2.zip"... thinking that it was MacBookPro7,1 (I have a macbook pro mid 2010 7,1 using IOName = "pci14e4, 432b")... I just got a kernel panic... 😩
 
Hi I'm new here. I'm just going to ask if MBP 2009 5,5 can have a continuity? I'm having some problem. I got a bluetooth dongle (TP-Link). on Mojave after installing continuity and restarting the computer crash and never surpass the booting logo. thanks in advance. :) now on catalina

Follow this

If you for your machine already have a working AirDrop in Catalina Finder, then be sure that SIP is disabled, open a Catalina Terminal:

csrutil status
sudo mount -uw / ; killall Finder

sudo /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Set:Mac-742912EFDBEE19B3:ContinuitySupport true" "/System/Library/Frameworks/IOBluetooth.framework/Versions/A/Resources/SystemParameters.plist"

sudo reboot

Make sure you enter your machine serial in command above and your MacBook air is model 4.2

Use this Terminal command to check your board Serial No

ioreg -l | grep "board-id" | awk '{print $4}'


Now you should have continuity (that includes handoff). Activation tool is outdated and will not work on catalina.

I am trying to do an update from 10.15 to 10.15.1 on a MP 3,1 with GTX680 (dosdude patcher 1.2.1 with usb boot)...
The installer fails after brtool with:

InstallAssistant: Client of osinstallersetupd is not running in an Aqua session, forcing reboot.
osinstallersetupd: Client side reboot failed, forcing reboot.

Always ensure your SIP is disabled by entering command in terminal status csrutil . Since we are using patched os on our unsupported macs this step is very important. Then use the 1.2.1 patcher to install over your existing 1.5.0 Catalina.

To fix the kernel panic simply delete the IO80211Family.kext you can easily boot from Catalina single user mode (CMD+S) , then from shell type:

mount -uw /
cd /System/Library/Extensions/
rm -R IO80211Family.kext
reboot

I'm on Catalina 10.15.1 (19B88) since 2019/10/30:
Gatekeeper Configuration Data has not been updated since early September
MRTConfigData has not been updated since early October
only Gatekeeper Compatibility Data & XProtectPlistConfigData are updated yesterday

Hi guys. In a previous post I mentioned I was gonna try installing Catalina on my Mac Pro 3,1. Unfortunately last week my Mac Pro wouldn't start ( I don't mean boot, I mean power on). A diagnostic led turned on.The one with ERRB sign. After a small research I changed the PSU and my Mac now would power on but still no boot screen.The only options left are : motherboard and cpu replacement. I know this is not the right place to ask, but is there anything else I should try before replacing them? I've tried resetting from the motherboard but still no use. I should also mention that I did't install Catalin yet as this problem occurred before trying to do so.
