Make sure you're using the latest Catalina Patcher version (1.2.1), along with the latest 10.15.1 installer app (15.1.03)
With this kind of specific error, if I create a USB bootable drive (External HD), with version 1.2.1 - 10/29/2019 and using the MacOS version available for 1.2.1, I need to format the SDD that is giving this error (photo) or I can do the installation over without formatting? Because turning on the Mac Pro with the OPITION key pressed, using the External Hard Drive with Catalina Beta Bootable Drive, the screen stay

Trying to make a new USB stick to update to 10.15.1 with the same USB as last time, but it fails every time. Using 1.2.1 patcher with 15.1.03 installer on a late 2011 MBP currently running 10.15.0.

Anyone else had this issue?

Error message says:
Error Saving BaseSystem Image

An error occurred while attempting to save the BaseSystem image. Ensure that there is at least 10GB of free space on your Startup Disk, then try again.

Log says:

I have a MacPro 2010 5.1 Octo. Version 10.15 was installed. I downloaded Patcher 1.2.1 and downloaded the version available (10.15.1) using Patcher. But it gave this error (screen shot). I restarted again presses the D key but nothing happens.View attachment 873573
Check that SIP is disabled and also the nvram no compat check is still active.

Creating USB stick always had issue for my MBP and cMP, I don’t have any problem with installing direct. It’s will not format your drive for update, all files will kept. The screen will black out after restart, it’s installing software. The computer is running you could hear it and just wait for it ”15 minutes or more”, you may press space bar coupe times after 15 minutes and the login screen will display. I just used the new patcher 1.2.1 from dosdude1 updated 10.15.1.
Hope this help,

Is anyone else getting that the version of the application is damaged and cannot be used for the installation? This happens when I boot up the installer and try to install Catalina. I've tried 10.15 and 10.15.1 and encounter the same error on both.

Yes, reinstall over present Catalina. So always wait for dosdude1 to produce a new patcher. Download this and use it to download latest Catalina. Then either "install to this machine" or make a new usb patcher. In both cases reinstall over your present Catalina. You should not lose any data or settings but always backup first. Good luck!

sadly the full install broke the system. it still shows only 10.15 and finder keeps crashing every few seconds now. this is a goner and needs a full reinstall... :(

i just downloaded from dosdudes installer page, it lists it as 1.20 not 1.21
Yes! that is the problem! when I just downloaded, I get version 1.2, However, when I downloaded on a different machine yesterday, I did get 1.2.1. Trying again, now with version 1.2.1

Try clearing your browser cache. Restart your browser and it should now show version 1.2.1
That is what worked for me.

Can you give us a little more detail of your setup - graphics card and system ROM would help with problem solving. You can run the cMP5.1 unpatched or patched, the choice is yours. If using the patches say for Wi-Fi and night shift then you will keep the SIP disabled. If running unpatched with the no compat check then SIP can be enabled. See my earlier post: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/macos-10-15-catalina-on-unsupported-macs.2183772/post-27737169

It would also be worth having a look at this thread for the cMP5.1:

No, SIP must remain disabled at all times when using a patched system.
The cMP5.1 can use dosdude1’s patcher to install Catalina with no patches. In this case SIP can be enabled if you wish. Several of us are running Cat this way on the cMP5.1 with SIP enabled.

I have been able to successfully install 10.15.1

Same issue as with the supplemental update. If using "install to this machine" it will just reboot back into the old system.

Using external USB drive solves the problem. Reinstall works fine.

Everything has been running smoothly even with the supplemental update. However there is one issue.

Ever since patch updater offered "AMD Metal Driver SSE4.2 Emulation Layer" I have trouble at login. Whenever I login, MacOS tries to resume all apps... of which I use quite many... and halfway through the mac will just reboot. Screen turns black and the chime comes up. After about 2-3 tries MacOS will come through and I can use it for ours with no errors. If I logon without any apps to resume, everything will work fine. Unless I start apps too quickly.
There is nothing to find in logs since the reboot probably happens to fast. I only see the usual log messages, then cut, then "Boot Time"

This has been happening since this patch was installed. Maybe I should not have installed it since I use a Nvidia Card....

This issue is not too serious but annoying since I have to boot up 2-3 times for everything to work fine.

Its the first issue I have been having. I am so thankful for dosdude1 patches. They have been keeping my old Mac Pro 3.1 alive since Sierra.

Just wanted to let you know that there might be a small issue.

Anyway, thank you so much for your and your teams work.

I will try that tonight after work, my only question is where do i find that info - as I'm a 95% windows user *gasps*
As I said, check the Console app. In there is a Crash Reports section.

VMM Flag?

Perhaps this has been clarified before. If so, my apologies and I would request that the relevant link be provided. Otherwise, I understand that there is the at least theoretical possibility of setting a VMM flag that will allow Catalina to update on its own on unsupported Macs. Is the setting of this flag included in the latest iterations of Catalina Patcher? If not, are there plans to include it in the near future? Will it require altering the boot by using Open Core or can it be independent of Open Core?

I also asked it earlier, and I found the answer here right now: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/opencore-on-the-mac-pro.2207814/

So technically is possible to use the Catalina "software update" using the OpenCore bootloader spoofing the real unsupported mac as a supported VMM flagged machine.

I downloaded a fresh copy of the macOS Catalina Patcher 1.2.1 Downloaded a fresh copy of macOS Catalina 10.15.1 created a new Patcher then tried the install to this machine it shutdown my iMac at the end instead of rebooting so I restarted my iMac holding the option key instead of showing MacintosHD as my hdd it seated macOSbasesystem booted into the patcher applied the post install patches but hung up at the force cache rebuild for about a min rebooted then pressed the option key this time my hdd shows macOSInstall so booted into my patcher reinstalled macOS Catalina skipped the post install patches and installed the night shift and back light and it is working BUT for Now don't apply the BlueSky Patches they are not compatible with the version yet

I would run disk check to make sure your hdd/ssd doesn't have any errors

is it possible to install Xcode with unsupported 10.15.1 Catalina?

Thanks
Yes

It appears that macOS 10.15.1 has hosed the Wi-Fi card in my iMac 8,1. I upgraded my iMac’s Wi-Fi card to a Broadcom BCM94360CD and it has worked fine up until this release of macOS. Also I noticed that whenever my iMac finishes starting up it will display a white screen with only a mouse cursor. I have to VNC into my iMac in order to sign in. After I sign in the iMac will log in as expected.
