I only just tested the method using the 1st 2 attachments from Page 352 post 8786 ( for the Mojave MonitorPanel files for S/L and S/L/PrivateFrameworks) and as it worked I didn't test with the equivalent for previous Catalina versions. It appears to work perfectly thus far with the Mojave.

Thank you for the thought of saying that I deserve a mention of sorts. Perhaps test out the method for yourself 1st and then put it out there :(

Just tested, and it worked using the Mojave ones but also using the "pre-10.15.4" ones:

/System/Library/MonitorPanels/
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MonitorPanel.framework

currently I don't have any 10.15.3 install since I have beta .4 updated, but I have used those from 10.15.0 and they worked too. I am enough sure that also the 10.15.3 MonitorPanel* should work.

Hi all,

On my Mac Pro 5.1 the patch updates keeps asking to update the audio legacy patch, which as far as I know shouldn't have been installed in the first place. Could someone please tell me how to get rid of this particular patch? I installed Catalina "on this machine", using dosdude's patch after I booted from an external usb disk onto a ccd in bay 1.

Thanks
was a good idea and probably doesn't work with your original MacBook Pro on NOT my Hack Book Pro alias 5.2.
The shipfty.app doesn't work with my Hack Book either, see screenshot.
Is there a solution to adapt this shifty.app to a hack book?
On the other hand, night shift is not that important.

Thank you to all all all all the amazing people ..... how can one update once for example you have installed 10.15 and want to go to 10.15.3 .... I downloaded the combo packet and now not sure what the next step is ......... could you kindly guide the next steps pls . Thank you :)
If you are on an unsupported Mac use the macOS Catalina Patcher 1.3.0 and download macOS Catalina 10.15.3 and make a new patcher to install it over 10.15

Hello to all.

Mid 2009 MacBook Pro 5,2 - 17 inch monitor, with C2D at 3.06 Ghz. Dosduede1’s ROM patch applied. Samsung EVO SSD with TRIM enabled.

Just to share, I used the (swupatch.sh.zip) and (catalinaswufix5amfi.command.zip) attached to post #8856, to download OTA Catalina 10.15.4 beta 5, and then, successfully install that OS version over 10.15.3.
I applied post-install patches via USB stick, containing 10.15.3 OS version, and made possible by Dosdude1’s patcher 1.3.0.

From many posts in this thread, I was already aware of the problem with non-functional Display Control Panel.
In fact, when I looked into the “system/library”, the entire “MonitorPanel” folder was missing.

I therefore downloaded two zip files attached to post #8870 (by indiawallah), unzipped them, and followed instructions for manual component installation, as delineated by Jackluke (in post #8876). Thus, I placed MonitorPanel in “system/library” folder, and put MonitorPanel.Framework in “system/library/privateframewoks” folder.

After completing above "repairs", I opended system preferences, clikced on the "Displays" icon and found that all Display Control functionality, including Night Shift, was fully restored.

Incidentally, the automated script attached to post # 8877 restored partial functionality, in as much that I could access color controls, but neither resolution nor night-shift controls were available.

Many thanks to the intrepid group of individuals whose successful endeavors allow for the continued use of older, fully capable machines.

Hi all, minor update to the wrappers (adding some new fake constants to CoreDisplay) for 10.15.4 DP5. This fixes some missing symbol errors seen when rebuilding the dyld shared cache and prevents a blank Displays prefpane even with stock MonitorPanels folder.

Unfortunately, this does not fix the previously-seen issue (since .4 DP1 I think) where it sometimes thinks the internal LCD is an external projector. I'll investigate that when I have time. However, it seems to be only cosmetic.

Hoping you guys only encounter Corona as beer and viruses as popups on your aunt's Windows XP box, not in combination.

Stay safe everybody.

Edit for clarity: There are two separate Displays panel issues -- one where it's totally empty (fixed by my update here) and one where the layout is messed up and it loses brightness slider (fixed by @jackluke and @TimothyR734's MonitorPanels replacements, and I'm also investigating the root cause).

I re-replaced the stock .4b5 MonitorPanels and MonitorPanel.framework (compiled by apple on 7 March 2020) , and using the new @ASentientBot 4b5 wrappers the Displays.prefpane worked with stock MonitorPanel* , also the brightness slider, except the "Night Shift tab" that as @indiawallah tested is due to a pre-4beta MonitorPanel.framework , so @ASentientBot you might check something on the privateframework MonitorPanel unix exec if there is some call to com.apple.preference.displays displaysNightShiftTab (but as workaround shifty app works).

Also another question, how do you showed on your MacBook7,1 the "Retina Text size" on 4b5 Displays.prefpane ? (I guess it's a casual bug?)

Because you have "Optimize for" and "NO_LOC" , and also you don't have the brightness slider while I have using your recent 4b5 wrappers and stock 4b5 MonitorPanel*.

Hello @ASentientBot
With my Hack Book Pro5,2, the graphics card is recognized as a projector and the OS thinks it is an
extrernal screen. My graphics card is an nVidia 9100M with 512 MB memory.

I have NEVER (since MacOS 10.5.6) ever had a brightness control in the colors field and have
never had night shift support with this graphics card. Does not matter anyway. And for Nighshift
I will test Flux, which is rather unimportant.

The Retina/optimize for/NO_LOC thing is a bug I've been seeing since around .4 DP2 which I assume is related to it thinking the internal LCD is a projector. You also have a MacBook7,1 right? It doesn't happen for you?

Maybe it's just a result of my installing the beta with pkgutil --expand-full and cp -a rather than using your proper OTA method. I should try that.

I'm looking into the projector thing which also happens on my machine. Do you get the messed up Displays layout too with NO_LOC and the Retina settings, or is that just an issue on my system?

Edit: From Console logs, it looks like some NIB files in the prefpane might've just gotten corrupted somehow on my system... will try a reinstall and OTA update sometime to check.

An observation if you look in the carbon framework where you find the HIToolbox framework you will also see a commonPanels.framework and if you check your HIToolbox.framewor/Versions/A on 10.15.3 it says 4.7mb on disk on 10.15.4 Dev Beta 5 it says 4.7mb on disk 2.5 compressed

Would be interesting to see if the "mess up" in the display panel might be language-dependent?
Thanks, Asentientbot, your wrapper again works like a charm on my MBA4,1.

A few weird issues on my system (MacBookPro8,1; 10.15.3; all patches up to date) lately:

1. The most recent Fast-Insider version of Microsoft Office won't boot because it "Requires a Video Card with Metal enabled."
2. Zoom.US app doesn't render any video streams (including preview of my own iSight). They just all appear black even though my iSight green indicator light is on and PhotoBooth works just fine (in fact, Zoom in the browser works just fine).
3. Preview sometimes does not render images on zoomed-in PDFs.

I'm guessing all of these are related to the fact that I'm running a patched HD3000? I've searched through most of this thread and didn't see anything on these and I thought that the artifacting had been solved for this card (i.e. I have a transparent dock, functioning light / dark mode, etc.)?

Thanks in advance for any advice! Happy to provide additional details / logs.

Hello All!

First of all thanks for great work so far!

I've tried at least twice Catalina on my MacBook Pro 8,1, however the problem with Powerpoint 365 blank screen presentation mode persists. I've being looking for any clues or ideas to solve that with no luck.

For reference, everything is running smoothly on Mojave in last build.

Thx.

Regards!

Hello all,

I have an iMac9,1 with Catalina 10.15.3 and NVidia GeForce 9400 and when I connect a second monitor to the displayport the system returns to the login window.

Has anyone else ever experienced something like this?

Many thanks and regards

Successfully installed 10.15.3 on my 3,1.

Threw in a 2TB Samsung EVO 860 SSD on an OWC Accelsior PCIe card at the same time as the clean install, and everything seems to be humming along nicely so far.

Dosdude's work is greatly appreciated - have made a donation to say thanks :)

I have basically the same setup, 3.1 with 1TB Samsung SSD via OWC Accelsior PCIe but I cannot get the patcher to work properly at all. I'm having similar issues to @jUeLz23 where I'm able to install Catalina but then eventually end up in a nonstop loop of apple, install, restart. The times I've been able to fully install Catalina and have the install recognized to run the postInstall have resulted in booting up to only immediately shut down. I'm able to install High Sierra but have yet to get either Mojave or Catalina to function.

@jUeLz23 were you able to get it to work?

Anyone else who can give me some help I'd really appreciate it.

Try installing Cat with the SSD in a SATA slot. After the install, move it to the OWC Accelsior PCI card?

For the procedure I followed Dosdude’s YouTube vid if that makes any difference.

Just completed a dosdude install of Catalina on my 4,1/5,1 mac pro.
Installed "innie" so my pci nvme blades show as internal drives, and used a Terminal command to remount the boot drive as read/write
so I could delete all the trash apps that Apple seems to think I need.
Everything went smooth with no hiccups (so-far). ☺

Only 1 downer I can find, I don't seem to have the Recovery drive normally accessable with "cmd+R".
Not a big deal though as I do have the bootable USB thumb drive which can get me there when needed.
