Go to page 1 to find the Dosdude1’s Catalina Patcher after you download a copy of Catalina you will need to make a new installer usb
I understand about the patcher and making a bootable drive, I just don't know where to download the new version of 'Mac OS Catalina' when I'm on an unsupported mac?

10.15.4 beta 6 is available, @ASentientBot if you want you could try the catalinaswufix5amfi.command (in combination with Sierra's swupatch.sh) , this simply will work on apfs firmware machines, it includes also your added tips with "return true" for OTA machine whitelisting and your recent "disable library validation script", I guess using this auto-installer method with its apple post-scripts is more effective than "pkgutil expand" and "cp -a".

the only thing I could suggest is try going to the macOS Mojave for unsupported Macs and download the Mojave patcher and then down try downloading a copy of Mojave and make a Mojave usb patcher and upgrade that way as Mojave supports both APFS and HFS-Extended-Journaled https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/macos-10-14-mojave-on-unsupported-macs-thread.2121473/
Mojave patcher doesn't have the download option, and I don't know where to find Mojave installer for now.

But I just found and downloaded the new version of catalina (10.15.3)

Tried to create a bootable drive and get this error:
"
Mounting BaseSystem.dmg...

hdiutil: attach failed - Read-only file system
"

My flash drive is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled), and it says Writable:YES

Thanks, this Mojave download is working. So you think that if I manage to install Mojave first I've got a better chance of Catalina patch working?

It depends your internal HDD/SSD needs to be formatted APFS and for me when I install a new macOS version I do a clean install you can check and try the Catalina Patcher after you install Mojave and see if it downloads Catalina 10.15.3

Hello! I’ve gotten as far as I can.. in need of someone who knows what their doing. So I created the bootable drive, put this into terminal (diskutil unmountDisk disk0 diskutil unmountDisk disk1 gpt destroy /dev/disk0 gpt destroy /dev/disk1 diskutil appleRAID create stripe Storage JHFS+ disk0 disk1 diskutil unmountDisk disk2 gpt create disk2 gpt add -t hfs disk2), formatted my disk2s1 to APFS, went to install Catalina onto the new APFS drive (RAID0), restarted and said it wasn’t able to be installed, so I unplugged the bootable drive and restarted as the directions said, but then it was stuck at the same spot for over an hour. Went to restart it again and now it says “the copy of the install macOS Catalina application is damaged, and can’t be used to install MacOS. PLEASE HELP!! :( (WILL DONATE TO WHOMEVER GET MY SYSTEM GOING!) :) Included the link to the source of my directions*

OTA update installed through the catalinaswufix5amfi.command without issues, I made this post mainly to underline that most probably the 10.15.4 beta 6 build 19E264b should match with the next apple public release since the "Beta" naming is not showed but only the build number (if clicked on it, otherwise "About this Mac" showed simply 10.15.4 ) exactly as a final release.

@ASentientBot 4b5 updated output wrappers worked correctly also in this 4b6 release in fixing the Displays prefpane.

Catalina Beta 6 installed easily using the catalinaswufix5amfi.command in terminal after 10% or more download of the OTA update. On reboot installed the usual post instal patches for my mid 2009 MacBook Pro. As before did the manual method for repairing the blank display panels ( see post 8870). All working exactly the same now as Cat Beta 5.

I tried installing 10.15.4 Dev Beta 6 and no luck I knew I should not have applied the Legacy Support Compatiblilty patch in the post install patches the progress bar would not move more than halfway then I rebooted and just applied the Legacy Support Compatibility patch all I go was a white screen so I tried just installing the Legacy Video Patch and the AMD Metal emulator patch from Mojave the progress bar reached then end but no desktop so reinstalled 10.15.3
