Make sure you are NOT using the "amfi_get_out_of_my_way=1" boot argument in either NVRAM or boot.plist.

Thanks @dosdude1 @TimothyR734 and @jhowarth for your help.

Yes, there is "amfi_get_out_of_my_way=1" and "-no_compat_check" in boot argument. I executed nvram boot-args="" to remove because sudo nvram -d amfi_get_out_of_my_way it wasn't working for me.

One last question please, I'll leave it as is or I'll add "-no_compat_check"

no_compat_check is you want to see in nvram 2 ways to remove the amfi 1 reset your PRAM Control-Option-P and R after your hear the chime or boot into the Catalina Patcher and apply the post install patches again

Hi TimothyR734,

After doing nvram boot-args="" everything works fine. I just want to know if "-no_compat_check" is obligatory or not.

for your information at first, I reset PRAM and I had to remake "sudo nvram fa4ce28d-b62f-4c99-9cc3-6815686e30f9:gpu-power-prefs=%01%00%00%00" to disable defective gpu (I could hardly see anything ?).......after the reboot, I don't have wi-fi anymore despite the fact that I have apply the post install patches again.

as I didn't know what to do I did fresh install ? however at the beginning there was no "amfi_get_out_of_my_way=1" but probably after installing something he reappeared o_O.

but this time I just did nvram boot-args="" and everything's back to normal. in conclusion I don't want to do reset PRAM fears of starting over ?

If you are on a unsupported Mac you need the no_compat_check in your boor-args (nvram) as patches could fail

Same thing here... easy as always with CatalinaOTAswufix.app and 1.4.4 post-install patches (and OpenCore loader to help my MBP5,2 with USB disk across OTA phase 2).
Thanks jackluke, dosdude!

The patcher sets -no_compat_check in a plist on the preboot volume, so it's not necessary to put it in NVRAM as well. It also disables SIP with a kext and/or boot.efi patch, so a PRAM reset should be entirely safe (other than the GPU disabling, as you said).

Hey, I'm new here. First of all, thanks @dosdude1 for the wonderful patchers! Used them on a bunch of machines now.

I've created a bootable USB stick with Catalina with the patcher app, but it's hanging on a boot screen for over 20 minutes now. The progress bar has completed, nothing else is happening. Any ideas what could be wrong? MacPro 5,1 here.

I've managed to install it once on the same hardware, but SSD that was in there went to see St. Peter, so bought a new one and can't reinstall now :( Any hints would be much appreciated!

Nevermind, I'm an idiot, should've used latest Patcher version of course..

I'm curious what software you used to annotate the desktop in the upper left corner. Been looking for something like that.

Thanks

I thought Displayport is unsupported in general in Catalina.

I think that maybe a patch from @dosdude1 should exists to enable displayport in Catalina, if this is the problem.

Edited:
Solved. I've re-appllied dosdude patches adding the unchecked "Video Patch", and now the external monitor is recognized in Catalina.

Me too, even though I'm no longer classified as a Newbie!
And me! Thanks!

I have a follow-up question regarding AMFI and library validation related flags. I looked them up here:
1) /Volumes/Preboot/*/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist
-> Kernel Flags = amfi_get_out_of_my_way=1 -no_compat_check (then changed to only -no_compat_check)
2) /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist
-> Kernel Flags = -no_compat_check
3) nvram
-> boot-args isn't present
4) /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.libraryvalidation.plist
-> DisableLibraryValidation = YES
5) /Library/Extensions/DisableLibraryValidation.kext
-> isn't present.

All works fine, with either setting for 1), including Skype and zoom. For those I've used tccplus before to allow microphone and camera usage. I'm using an MBP5,2 with (non-metal) NVIDIA 9600M GT.

My question is, which one of 1) and 2) would take precedence? Sufficient/better to have only one of them?
This is just for understanding the mechanism - things work perfectly for me anyway.

EDIT: added point 5) above for completeness.

I’ve done this twice and ended up reverting to High Sierra on my Mid 2010 MBP because after awhile the computer will just lock up for some reason and needs a hard reboot. I’ve enabled trim on my SSD and this only happens after upgrading to Catalina. I’m not really sure why it does that.

Is your SSD formatted APFS which is required for Catalina
