After successfully installing macOS 10.15.7 on a MBP 8,2 most everything is fine. Even Logic is running normallyBUT: MainStage 3,5 doesn't start correctly. (I only can post the German error message...)

Grafikinitialisierung fehlgeschlagen
MainStage konnte keine Grafikinitialisierung durchführen. Dies geschieht üblicherweise beim Durchführen innerhalb einer nicht unterstützten virtuellen Maschinenumgebung oder auf einem nicht unterstützten Mac.

Found this about metal apps on unsupported systems. May be 3.5 made the jump to more metal api usage and so your machine cannot run it any longer.

The graphics patches bring back OpenGL, not metal.

Shut-down the Mac. Wait 30 seconds, hold down the ⌘-option/alt-R keys, start the Mac. Often it takes a while for Internet macOS Recovery to respond, be patient. macOS Recovery can be re-installed by the v.1.4.4 USB patcher, it's near the bottom of the list of selections.
Yeah, still no dice on internet recovery.

Maybe you can get hold of an older version?
(On my MBP 8,1 Keynote 10.0 (April 2020) and iMovie 10.1.12 (March 2014) work well, whereas later versions freeze on some tasks.)

I have downloaded what I believe is required to install Catalina Security Updates on my unsupported MBP 5,5.

Folder: CatalinaOTAswufix-master

*** Where in the folder is the app to open, that enables the GUI? ***

Help kindly appreciated.

"Those trees around you are the forest you're looking for." (That's what a hotel receptionist told me many years ago, when I asked for directions after arriving late in the evening.)

You're looking at the contents folder of the app. Something went wrong when you decompressed the app. You should be looking at this. And that is not just a fancy folder icon, but the app itself.

Hi,
I've been using 7950 GPU on mac pro 3,1 with Sierra (even though w no boot screen) for some years and decided to upgrade to Mojave or Catalina. I've tried both but both can't recognise my 7950. I used Dosdude1 patch but seems not to be working. I've contacted him and said it is a GPU issue but the card works perfectly in Windows, macOS Sierra, Catalina USB installer, Linux. Can someone suggests what to do? Now I'm stuck in a non-metal Catalina, currently using nvidia 8800.

Guys, is Dynamic Desktop working for you? Mine is always showing Dark. Night Shift selected Sunset to Sunrise, desktop setting looks like that but still shows just dark.

Successful update to 19H1210. No hiccups.
MBP4,1 17" (Early 2008).

I can't solve 2 Catalina problems, though:
#1 Safari preventing 3rd-party extensions from running. Method as of Apple Support doc not working.
Q: Is there a terminal command for this?

#2 Settings>Security and Privacy>Microphone preventing 3-rd party applications to run (e.g. Boom 3D)
Q: is there a terminal command for this?

Updated a early 2011 Macbook Pro 13 with dosdude Catalina patcher.

What a great tool! No muss no fuss.

One glitch along way, Wifi came up unable to connect and I lazily applied the BCRM patch instead of troubleshooting. Had to re-install Catalina to back out patch which was uneventful and easier than finding the patches in the system, then removed /L/P/System Configuration/network prefs, as documented previously in this thread, and this system runs well, including — I think — Quicksync offload? Netflix, youtube, etc all work smoothly with low power consumption. It played a youtube for 3-1/2 hours after a full charge. The CPU in this thing is no stallion. It breaks a sweat for some ordinary tasks, but it's very usable and looks and feels fine.

Community: Thanks for doing what Apple won't (however good their reasons may be)

Great stuff

PS

I don't use conferencing so waving hands here, but zoom test meeting went fine and Privacy setup asked for right pernissions at right time.

This was an upgrade from Sierra.

Use this;
Yes, this tool will help you when Privacy settings are not processed correctly when an app requests access.

The tool is a variation of an Apple-supplied tool. This enhancement adds the ability to force the addition of a program into Privacy settings. It's safe to use.

The use of the tool is simple, once you know the ju-ju for telling it to tell it what you want to do. See the README on the above page, about how to find the bundle identifier for the app you need to add, and figure out which capability you need to add from list, e.g., "Microphone" and "Camera".

You don't have to compile it from source, just download the zip-file provided under the "Release" tccplus 1.0 link at the right-hand side of the above page.

*** Just in case you are unfamiliar with how to run, open a Terminal window and drag the icon for the unzipped tccplus to the command prompt, the add in the parameters you need per the documentation.

Good morning. I wonder if anyone could send me the EFi OC for a Imac 2009 21,5.

Thank you so much.

After installing macos 10.15 on an unsupported mbp 8,2 there was an updated patch which brought back brightness control with disabled (because damaged) AMD gpu. Unfortunatley Mainstage requires a Metal GPU... So I still continue to use High Sierra. Now my question: Is it possible to get that patch running on High Sierra although that MacBook is still supported?

I got it to work as per your instructions. Problem solved.

19H1210.

After latest Sec. Update my Mac is showing a strange file, which cannot be deleted:
"default.profraw"
File path: Macintosh HD/default.profraw

Terminal command "sudo chflags hidden /default.profraw" doesn't hide the file, result is: "default.profraw Read-only file"

How do I get rid of this file?

Welcome - From the unzipped gibMacOS-master ƒ in your Downloads ƒ, run the gibMacOS.command shell, go to the Security Pref Pane and OK it, enter the #5 in the prompt below. Then make certain the D/L has fully completed, progress is shown, it can take awhile. Inside the new Downloads ƒ is a ƒ with a Product I.D. #, drop that ƒ into the BuildmacOSInstallApp.command shell, after another visit to the Security Pane and OK, a brand new full macOS Catalina installer v.15.7.03 aka (19H15) will appear in the gibMacOS-master ƒ. It can be selected from there when building the new v.1.4.4 USB patcher. BTW - ƒ is for the word - folder - because I'm lazy. ?
Thanks for that detailed explanation!
Got that working and updated succesfully to 19H15!

Now I am failing with the next steps to receive the latest stable updates. I don't want to try the beta releases, just the security updates for Catalina.

What I did so far:
  • Downloaded CatalinaOTAswufix.app
  • Did the "software Update fix" and successfully got offered the beta updates (macos Big Sur beta 11.4 and when clicking on "Another update is available" I see the Beta 2021-003 Update
  • Clicked on Download and Install on the 2021-003 Update, then after >3% download clicked on "OTA update fix"
  • I get an error message: "WARNING: You need to run first the Sotware Update fix to allow Beta Updates. if you already done it, then the Catalina OTA dist is not yet ready or downloaded"
  • Get that message even after the whole update is downloaded. And by the way, I can't install it. And I know that I do not want to install it. ;)
What am I doing wrong?
How to opt out of the beta updates and only receive the official updates??

Thanks in advance!!!

If you use File Sharing or Screen Sharing, do not D/L 2021 -003, these features are broken. 2021-002 aka 19H1030 is great. To opt-out of Beta, see Details under the sprocket in the Software Update CP, select and Restore Defaults. Now, whatever non-Beta Update that is available will be shown. The procedure is the same as in Beta, apply the OTA update fix, early on. Any time an update fails, go to Library/Updates ƒ and delete everything in the folder. Retry

Thank you! Will try that tonight.

I am a bit confused about the OpenCore Legacy Patcher. I do not have it installed until today. And I am not sure if I need now it for my setting? Until today I was applying the updates via the Catalina Patcher by dosdude...
Thanks!

Hm…
Just had a look at your previous posts, nothing wrong there. I can only guess that your questions (MP3,1 & 7950 GPU) are too vague to react on - or all necessary info can be already found on the wiki pages (#1) of the threads.
