Just discovered that if you run sudo mount -uw / in DP2, you can delete/modify files in the protected partition. (Might have to killall Finder afterwards for it to detect the change.)
I have also discover here that post

Thank you Verry much :D

I'm wondering if Apple is keeping a tab open on this thread and "patching your patches" to make Catalina unable to work on unsupported Macs.

While all is good and great, sometime I can't help thinking if this whole thing should go underground with patchers available only through VPNs or torrents or whatnot.

I am not involved in process but was thinking about the same right now. I would consider it smart. You call it something like dog race or so, aren't you?

Didn't yet. Had problems with patcher. I have solved the issue with my USB and going to try the instalation procedure late this morning... Let's see what it brings.
OH man, its because the machine can't natively boot APFS :) I was sitting here thinking that it was something easy lol. Im sure thats why. Im going to create a boot USB that supports booting apfs and try finishing the install on the iMac.

I'd actually like an answer to this too, it seems really hit or miss. Sometimes it'll auto-rebuild and other times it'll just proceed through the boot process without "noticing" that I changed any kexts. I've been rebuilding my Catalina prelinkedkernel from Mojave in order to reach the desktop, after which I can rebuild it again from the Terminal.

man kextd suggests some flags like -no-caches that might be useful for first boot (you'd have to edit the launchd plist to add the argument I guess?) but I haven't gotten around to trying them.
I concur. I've relied on rebuilding my prelinks on a supported machine to get a minimal boot (at least to single user). The error message about the security framework needs to be looked at. I'm wondering if it's just a matter of launchtl'ing some needed services...
Such a pain if single-user mode has also been "locked" down to that level. But it doesn't make sense to me so I'm thinking it's a bug (maybe in how we're doing things). There's got to be a way around that...

I may start again from scratch to get to the bottom of this. Anyone have some more insights into this?

Xcode 11 beta 2 works on a non-Metal system with no patches :)

The mini-map is still non-functional, but I guess they added some error handling instead of just crashing when there's no Metal device.
Very cool. Cat and Xcode are still very buggy, so many of these issues may actually be Apple's and not our workarounds. Time will tell.

Yes, just installed it a while ago

Do you plan to release a Catalina PartialPatcher with a verbose output?
I mean not only a progress bar, but showing output scripts as hdiutil, asr and so on, in order to make easier to debug where exactly it throws exceptions.

I tried and got "can't save the Image" or similar message, however I found where you placed your custom BaseSystem.dmg in /tmp/ I may try to restore it on a disk partition and then manually add the expanded InstallESD.dmg packages there (on the restored partition /System/Installation/).

edit:
Tried also replacing inside /S/I/Packages/ your patched OSInstall.mpkg
but getting from GUI Installer "The installer resources were not found"
Yes, once I get the actual full patcher made, that will have the option of viewing verbose logs.

@dosdude1

Your Catalina Partial Patcher Tool does not work on machine with already installed Catalina OS.
It’s not possible to create bootable USB. After press Create Patched Installer this tool hangs on starting....
Its create volume on USB with 1,34GB data and nothing more.

It works on any Mac? For instance, a mbp 8,1 i5?

Has anyone tried a BCM94360CD wifi card yet under stock Catalina? I assumed since it is a 2013/2014 model MacBook Air card that it should still be supported in the default Broadcom drivers, right?

I have this card in iMac 11,3 replaced last year to use with Mojave, now updated Mojave to Catalina and all working OK with stock .kext. Also Unlock witch Apple Watch, Continuity, and last feature to share screen to iPad works.

I had to run a patch app to get my DLink wireless card to work in Mojave. It worked in Hi Sierra. It has the same chip as Apple one. Ona Mac Pro 5,1 .. Not sure where I got it . You might check at TonyMac86 the hackintosh site as they get non Apple wifi cards to work .. You may even find a usb wifi that works . My DLink card shows up as Airport Extreme with Atheros Chip 9380

I ordered the following adapter card and wifi card...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-PCI-E...303760?hash=item362c781f10:g:t4QAAOSwofxUbzDF

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-iMAC...dYAAOSwJcxcwzCW:sc:USPSFirstClass!41011!US!-1

as they are claimed to have worked on MacPro 3,1 in the past...

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/wifi-card-for-mac-pro-3-1.2006175/#post-23734551

I had tried three different BCM94360CS2 cards with a different generic adapter card.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/802-11AC-B...390688?hash=item3afea5ef20:g:qnUAAOSw-RhaY2u5

in my MacPro 3,1 but they never were stable in terms of booting the machine. Often the motherboard would show a CPU error led lit and never get to a boot screen at all. Hopefully, this combo will be better behaved as the issue of running the usb for the Bluetooth through the miniPCI slot always was concerning.

This afternoon I will be posting my Mac Pro 3,1 patches. I’ve narrowed it down to a very select few patches are required to get the keyboard WiFi, sound and trackpad 2 and WebCam to work without much work besides a couple with things.

Catalina provides a very good USB set of drivers and when used with legacy usb only everything just works.

My scripts will be interactive allowing the user to set target drives. Clean install is recommended. I am removing the stuff that’s not needed now.

We'll see, I'm curious what will happen in the future. If in DP3 we'll see even more fixes from Apple to work around the patches which have been made I'd say it's pretty clear that all the efforts done up until now are backfiring and we're running the risk of getting to the first release of Catalina (10.15.1) without the possibility to run it on unsupported macs.

i just created a usb stick with dosdude patcher. after finishing the installer i double klick on the installer on my usb stick and that moment, the apps is shown in the dock but now image on my desktop.
if i right-click on the installer in the dock, it says no response and in only can force quit the installer.
what am i doing wrong?
