Am I just terrible late to the game in mentioning that Apple horizontally swapped the images for the Fullscreen buttons with Big Sur as opposed to at least macOS Catalina ? I just checked on some of my more recent theme-mockups and all the themes I for when Fullscreen was introduced like they are now - I have the buttons based on the old appearance of what is now a horizontally swapped image.

I noticed it with Public Beta 9, but I haven't had the courage to mention it before now.

Anyone know when the Sound menu changed to show an AirPods icon when AirPods are connected? I'm about 95% sure this wasn't in Beta 9.

I noticed this too, but some betas ago already (perhaps since the first). I wonder why.

They removed the Yosemite, El Capitan, Sierra, and High Sierra, iMac Pro Marketing wallpaper, and the 2016 MacBook Pro Marketing Wallpapers from system preferences.

I was actually surprised to see all the old, familiar wallpapers that have gone missing over the years. I knew something felt very off every time I went to browse options in the Desktop & Screensaver pane.

This album has been archiving all macOS wallpapers as Apple gradually removes them:

Verification that these are the real original wallpapers and that the album isn't re-compressing the images or anything funky. The MD5 checksum of the file I downloaded from that page matches the original in my Desktop Pictures folder. Ie: they are the same exact file.

Code:
$ md5sum /Users/Administrator/Downloads/Catalina\ Sunset.heic
09c412eb4761f94b6f98b6e4e337268d /Users/Administrator/Downloads/Catalina Sunset.heic

Nice repository. I have Macs going back to OS9, so if anyone wants wallpapers from any of the OS versions, please let me know.

I find it to be pretty poor design that the "X" button to dismiss notifications in notification center switches sides (left or right) depending on whether you're dismissing one notification or a stack of notifications. It should consistently remain on the same side.

in 11.0.1, there’s an icon for a 2018 MacBook, in Gold, which IIRC was never released. Comparing it side-by-side with the normal Retina MacBook shows a slight font variation and a larger front cutout. Interesting!

I wonder if that points to the unreleased, potential 2020 MacBook being the first AS-based Mac, and the filename is just a decoy (them hoping nobody would notice)?

Interesting, but I'm not going to read into this.

My opinion is that whilst Apple may release an ultra-portable like the 12" MacBook in the future, and it could become the standard consumer model to replace the Air, they wouldn't just reuse the previous industrial design.

The failing of the original product was due to a number of decisions rather than just one.

- The butterfly keyboard (Unreliable and now has a bad reputation; even if Apple did improve it for a next generation)
- The price (Could be revisited, but is there enough wiggle room between this, the MBA and the MBP? It would need a considerable price cut)
- The brand (Why isn't this product called the Air, given it's the smallest-lightest offering? That's just plain confusing)
- The thermals - though this wouldn't be an issue with Apple Silicon.

Purely from an aesthetic point of view, I also can't see Apple keeping those bezels on such a small product. This is where a brand new industrial design would, at the very least, keep the device up-to-date.

Then again there have been some strange decisions in the past... Who knows?

Is the font the same as current MacBook airs and Pros?

In case this hasn't been mentioned for any iMac 2015 Retina 27" owners; the new boot sound came to me with the latest public beta 11.0.1. It was never there for me in previous Big Sur public betas.

So that's it.. I think I'm still going to turn off the boot sound within the perfectly timed checkbox in System Preferences->Sounds.

I'm generally turning off the boot sound on my iMac because it's too damn high/loud if I've been playing music rather loud from my iMac. If I could adjust the audio level before/on reboot in the same Sounds setting I would set it to a 10% off my usual audio level. Or just get hearing aids(not regular AIDS - I don't care for that much) so that I may hear the sweet sweet sound of the new boot chime. 🔈

However, the boot sound still sounds like a stranded whale at the beach on the Faroe Islands. 🐳

Is there a way to see who sent a Tapback to a message in OS and iOS group messages? Can't seem to identify the source a "like" one the notification is gone.

update: Neve mind; I found it. Tap the emoticon, and the band across the top changes to show who sent and when.

Why is the install icon round when all other icons are square?
Time Machine, Safari and Disk Utility are applications and they are using their new squared app icons. Maybe they don't consider the installation an app and thus decided not to do a square icon? No idea.

They probably either forgot to update the macOS Installer icon, or kept it a circle purposefully so that the icon wouldn't stand out in older macOS systems in the Applications folder/Launchpad/Dock.

I suspect next year's macOS Installer icon will be stylized in adherence to the squared trend.
