I´m glad to second that. Good to see the "brand names" here again. Hope that @0403979 reconsiders his plans (you can do both Linux and Apple geek ;-) and that @parrotgeek1 joins in at the right moment.
So. Next round with Big Sur.

TechQ: How do the BS* Apps react when they only have the FrameBuffer up&running and no metal and atm no OpenGL framework? Do they show blank/black content (as it was on the doubly unsupported MB 4,1 with Mojave) or has Apple changed it again and the fallback goes to CPU slo-mo rendering?

*fun fact. As many others I find it hard to believe that this escaped the marketing gurus at Apple, but I draw a smile out of the german meaning of BS: "BetriebsSystem" meaning, operating system (!)
Ha! As funny is the English meaning of BS... can't get over how that escaped those marketing "gurus" :)

same question about acceleration but not sure if anyone has gotten that far yet (on older 4.x and 5.x non-supported non metal macs)

Glad you're doing well buddy! Old workhorses have been out on loan for a worthy cause. I may be able to retrieve them (pro 3,1 and mbp5.x mid 2009) in a few months. Meanwhile will follow and cheer on the sidelines :)

This is why Apple is not wise to invest in - cook is destroying the Mac with a toy OS. Mac OS is nothing but a toy with iOS, a snow Leopard Big Sur will NEVER be !

Ixmeta: Why angry when its the truth - everything after snow leopard is a joke - a toy, a child's toy.. not a serious operating platform. sorry, but many have already agreed with me on this - Mac OS X was once a serious operating and professional platform, but with the kind of stuff I saw in Catalina, Mojave, others before and Big Sur - its a big unprofessional toy.

I hate when Apple removes support for older devices

i get only in internet recovery, and it loads recovery of lion. changing nvram boot args worked, but csrutil doesnt work it sais that csrutils command not found.

Hi,
there are 3 types of Internet Recovery, one of them installs Lion, other install the Latest suported version (on my MacbookPro 2012 Catalina via internet recovery, or Lion via internet recovery using the other option

Internet Recovery Options are:

Command (⌘)-R = Reinstall the latest macOS that was installed on your Mac

Option-⌘-R = Upgrade to the latest macOS that is compatible with your Mac. [Catalina]

Shift-Option-⌘-R = Reinstall the macOS that came with your Mac, or the closest version still available. [Lion]

Recovery exceptions
The version of macOS offered by macOS Recovery might vary in some cases:
  • If macOS Sierra 10.12.4 or later has never been installed on this Mac, Option-Command-R installs the macOS that came with your Mac, or the closest version still available. And Shift-Option-Command-R isn't available.
  • If you erased your entire disk instead of just the startup volume on that disk, macOS Recovery might offer only the macOS that came with your Mac, or the closest version still available. You can upgrade to a later version afterward.
  • If your Mac has the Apple T2 Security Chip and you never installed a macOS update, Option-Command-R installs the latest macOS that was installed on your Mac.
  • If you just had your Mac logic board replaced during a repair, macOS Recovery might offer only the latest macOS that is compatible with your Mac.

Wifi is also working on my 7,1 with IO80211Family.kext from Mojave. I bet the 2012 machines will be able to use the same kext from Cat. Anyone tried it yet?

Here are the steps I used to get the beta installed on a 2013 27 inch iMac

(I made a new partition for this install I recommend you guys do the same!)

1. Download pkg from http://swcdn.apple.com/content/down...kxzj3zjshu1srsh4n74a41n4/InstallAssistant.pkg

2. Download https://forums.macrumors.com/attachments/really-simple-installer-hack-zip.926156/

3. Copy hax.dylib to home folder

4. Boot into recovery

5. Run csrutil disable in Terminal

6. Also run this command in the terminal in recovery: sudo nvram boot-args="-no_compat_check"

7. Reboot and run this in Terminal while on current OS - sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.libraryvalidation.plist DisableLibraryValidation -bool true

8. Run this in terminal launchctl setenv DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES $PWD/Hax.dylib

9. Open the InstallAssistant.pkg and open the Installer.app in Launchpad / applications folder

10. Wait for install to finish
